Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the competitiveness of Indonesian fishery products in the ASEAN and Canada markets. The method used was Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Export Product Dynamic (EPD), and X-Model product export potential. The research showed that Vietnam and Canada had a similar level of export structure to Indonesia in the ASEAN market so that Indonesia would have a high competition with both countries. Indonesian fishery products showed a high competitiveness in the export destination markets, except Philippines and Canada. The market position of Indonesian fishery products in Philippines, Thailand and Canadian markets was in the rising star and lost opportunity. These countries also showed as an optimist and potential market for Indonesian fishery products. The policy implication is that government and private sector need to prioritize the export of fishery products to Thailand, Philippines and Canada by improving the product competitiveness through quality improvement and production cost efficiency

Abstract

This study investigates the competitiveness of Indonesian biodiesel export among the top seven of biodiesel trader countries in the world, as well as the factors that determine export for Indonesian biodiesel. Applying Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) analysis, the results show that Indonesia has good competitiveness of biodiesel in the world. Using secondary data, the results of the gravity model indicate that distance of trade destination countries harms the Indonesian biodiesel export. Meanwhile, price, exchange rate, and GDP have a positive effect on the export. Based on the results of this study, the government of Indonesia should focus on the development of the biodiesel industry, since the increasing importance of biodiesel as alternative energy in the world

Abstract

The development of international trade is important to boost an economy. Economic integration is used by Indonesia to increase trade values. Belt Road Initiative (BRI) is a new integration that is usefull for Indonesia. Under BRI, the most frequently traded commdities are oil and gas. However, Indonesia should consider impacts of the integration on the trade of oil and gas. This study using a gravity model aims to analyse impact of BRI on Indonesia’s oil and gas trade and determinant factors in the trade. The result of this study shows that Indonesia get a trade diversion from BRI. Determinant factors influencing on Indonesia’s trade are GDP, distance, price and consumption. Indonesia should take more benefits of energy sectors particularly oil and gas from BRI.

Abstract

This study aims to determine export price, real GDP, exchange rates, geographic distance, and coal reserves of export destination countries on Indonesia coal export value to 11 RCEP countries for period 2010-2019 and describe the growth of Indonesian coal export value to 11 RCEP countries for period 2010-2019. The eleven RCEP countries are China, Australia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, dan Cambodia. This study used quantitative data with panel data regression. The results of the simultaneous significance test indicate that globally the independent variables in the model significantly affect the dependent variable. These results are supported by the partial test that export price, real GDP, and exchange rates has a positive significant effect on value of Indonesia coal export, while geographic distance and coal reserves of export destination countries has a negative significant effect on Indonesia coal export value.

Abstract

Climate change as a part of environmental degradation has become a topic widely discussed in recent decades. This study analyses the relationship between corporate environmental performance and corporate financial performance by studying cases at the company level. The company level was chosen to focus the research since companies are the main actors in economic activity as producers of both goods and services. The method used is unbalanced panel data regression with the Random Effects Model with a sample of 175 firms from 2003 to 2021 in 20 countries. This research also captures the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Empirical results show that there is no nonlinear relationship between corporate environmental performance and corporate financial performance with the Lind-Mehlum test. It indicates that there is a trade-off between profit and the environment. As such, the effort of businesses to drive investors from the profit-oriented to become green-oriented needs significant effort. A key policy priority should therefore be the long-term reinforcement of businesses in green activities.
