Abstract

The enthusiasm toward reading happens as a result of good reading attitude is known as the attitude of reading. Students' reading attitudes are strongly related to their ability to be achieved by practice. The purpose of this study was to find out the correlations between students’ attitude and perception of reading in intermediate reading class. The participants were twenty-three students in the second semester of English study program, University of Muhammadiyah Palembang. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling of the even semester class in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Coefficient correlation was adopted in this study. It is also intended to see if there any significant correlation between reading habits and reading perception of intermediate reading class students. The data was acquired through the use of Elementary Reading Attitude Survey (ERAS) that was established by McKenna and Kear (1990) in order to measure students’ reading attitude. An informal interview was also conducted by the researcher to acquire additional information about students' perceptions to reading. The results of this study revealed that there is moderate correlation between students' attitudes and perceptions of reading with the correlation value are 0.48. Thus, students must keep practicing and improving reading comprehension.

Abstract

In the Pandemic of Covid -19, Indonesia had a lot of changes that have occurred in society and other circles. Types of changes that occur for example; the process of teaching, learning activities and office in offline or in other words work from home. The economic income also has decreased as well as the household economic income of residents in each region. The existence of Internet facilities can greatly assist all groups of society in facing the transition of change in carrying out every work activity, and schools that usually done at home. By utilizing the Internet and computers as technology in the use of social media which is facilitated by the internet therefore the public can continue to carry out economic activities online. As the existence of social media, the community still be able to carry out in buying and selling activities to get profit and improve the household economy. The example of social media that also can be used are; instagram, facebook, whats up, and e-mail. Thus, from the use of social media, it still can help family economy income to be existed during the Pandemic of Covid -19.

Abstract

The English language is no doubt significant for communication in the international community. It may not be the most widely spoken language globally, but it is the official language in many countries. This paper aims to analyze why the English language plays a significant role in supporting economic growth and the factors that influence the use of the English language in the era of globalization. A function that helps people communicate promotes nation-to-nation development and builds relationships with other countries. The survey design used a survey, the type of survey used a descriptive survey, and the equipment used was student observation. The results show that the economy is becoming increasingly global, and more and more countries are turning to the English language for business reasons. In conclusion, the English language is a significant contributor to sustainable development, so those who do not speak the English language do not stand a chance.

Abstract

Fenomena kehidupan petani yang sering kali terjadi adalah usaha dan kerja keras serta biaya yang dikeluarkan petani tidak sesuai harapan saat hasil panen dipasarkan. Petani sering sekali mengalami kondisi dimana hasil panen yang dijual ini dianggap merugikan yang penyebabnya adalah anjloknya harga saat panen. Kondisi ini juga terjadi di desa Tanjung Lalang Kecamatan Payaraman Kabupaten Ogan Ilir Sumatera Selatan. Di desa ini 90% pekerjaan adalah petani nanas, namun sering kali terjadi bahwa nanas yang di panen tidak dapat memberikan keuntungan bagi petani. Bahkan nanas yang sudah layak panen terkadang dibiarkan membusuk dikebunnya, atau sering juga hasil panen nanas dibuang begitu saja saat panen tiba. Kejadian ini membuat kami melakukan penyuluhan kepada 30 orang petani nanas dengan tatap muka dan ceramah berkaitan dengan pentingnya kreativitas, inovasi dan pemasaran produk nanas sebagai salah satu solusi permasalahan petani. Hasil dari pengabdian petani menerima positif dan termotivasi menghindari kerugian hasil panen. Masyarakat mulai mengubah pola pikir yang selama ini hanya menjual nanas utuh sekarang berkeinginan membuat berbagai produk dari nanas.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan dan mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis fungsi fungsi bahasa yang digunakan oleh tokoh utama, Frank Abagnale Jr. dalam Catch Me If You Can. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, karena melibatkan ujaran-ujaran tokoh utama dalam film yang perlu dideskripsikan. Objek penelitian ini adalah 576 ucapan dari karakter utama. Beberapa langkah yang dilakukan dalam proses pengumpulan data, seperti mengunduh dan mengekstrak subtitle, menonton film, mengonversi, mencetak dan membaca subtitle, menemukan dan menandai jenis fungsi bahasa, jenis dominan dan implikasinya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fungsi referensial ditemukan pada 79 ujaran yang diucapkan oleh Abagnale dalam film, 6 untuk fungsi puitis, 36 untuk fungsi ekspresif musuh, 45 untuk fungsi konatif, 53 untuk fungsi fatis, dan 30 untuk fungsi metalingual.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk memecahkan masalah yang dihadapi penulis sebagai guru Bahasa Inggris di SMK Negeri 6 Palembang. Hasil dari data awal menunjukkan bahwa pencapaian kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas sepuluh tidak dapat memenuhi kriteria standar keberhasilan. Tujuan dari metode pembelajaran kooperatif melalui tongkat bicara adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan metode pembelajaran kooperatif melalui tongkat bicara dan yang tidak. Penelitian ini menyelidiki bagaimana pengaruh metode pembelajaran kooperatif dan tongkat bicara terhadap siswa kelas sepuluh yang dipilih sebagai sampel dan dibagi rata menjadi kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol. Kemampuan siswa dalam posttest pada kedua kelompok dibandingkan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelompok dalam kaitannya dengan perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelompok eksperimen mengungguli kelompok kontrol dan metode pembelajaran kooperatif melalui tongkat bicara memberikan efek positif pada siswa untuk meningkatkan berbicara mereka. Namun, ada pengaruh interaksi yang signifikan dari media dan kepercayaan diri terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to find out there was a significant influence of using vocabulary self-colection strategy on the vocabulary mastery of the Seventh Grade Students at SMP YKPP Pendopo. The method was pre-experimental. The population of this study was the seventh grade students of SMP YKPP Pendopo with totaling 105 students. The sample selected by using convenience method with the total 31 students. The data collected by mean of tests, namely pretest and posttest. The data analyzed by Matched t-test. The score of tobtained was 0.0083 1697 at the significant level p0.05 for two tailed and degree of freedom was 30, t table was 1.697. It indicated that the used of vocabulary self-collection strategy on the vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students at SMP YKPP Pendopo was significant influence.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi pembelajaran yang disukai pada pembelajaran online kelas XII IPA 3 di SMA Negeri 1 Prabumulih. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XII IPA 3 SMA Negeri 1 Prabumulih dengan jumlah sampel penelitian sebanyak 36 siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner yang sudah jadi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kesulitan pada siswa dengan menggunakan semua strategi pembelajaran. Diantara strategi-strategi tersebut strategi afektif paling sering digunakan oleh siswa dalam pembelajaran dan strategi afektif menjadi persentase tertinggi. Berdasarkan data wawancara hampir semua siswa menjawab bahwa mereka menggunakan semua strategi pembelajaran bahasa.

Abstract

Reading is crucial to the process of learning a language. Students can use digital technology to support reading activities in today's modern culture. As a result of students' need for information in the digital age, digital text is now virtually everywhere. This study investigated EFL students reading preferences (digital or printed). The participants of this study were 102 EFL students from private universities in South Sumatera. The data was collected through 20 items of questionnaire distributed through google form. Based on the result of the study, it could be concluded that first, most participants enjoy reading. They read for a variety of purposes, including to get the knowledge, to get information, to get the entertainment, and for other purposes. The second, the participants prefer reading digital texts. The practicality of the digital texts is the primary motivating factor why they chose it. They acknowledged that they do not need to hold thick texts or books while reading, they only need to bring their devices. Furthermore, they said one device can store and read multiple texts. They added that reading materials on digital devices are considerably more intriguing and enjoyable than those on printed. Third, the researchers noted that all readers—whether they preferred reading printed or digital texts—felt at comfortable with the reading equipment they had selected. . Finally, it is revealed from the data that most participants are more inspired to read when they use digital reading texts.
