Abstract

Community-based tourism is closely related to the active involvement of local communities in the development of tourism in their environment. Community participation in maintaining and developing batik tourism activities is the main attraction in the Wukirsari village. The development of Wukirsari village into a leading tourist destination in Bantul Regency can be an example for other tourist villages. This is interesting to study by describing and identifying the extent to which community participation affects the community to participate in batik tourism activities. The research method used in this study is a descriptive research method with a qualitative approach that is carried out by in-depth interviews with the parties concerned and direct observation in the field to obtain a direct picture based on empirical conditions. The field results are then analyzed by reducing data and triangulation so that the data obtained is valid so that it can draw a conclusion. The results of the discussion on community participation in tourism activities are, in general, local communities involved in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and distribution of benefits. But it is still necessary to maximize the participation of people who have not been directly involved in tourism activities. The most dominant form of local community participation is in the form of energy.

Abstract

Society lives in a place called settlement. Peasants are one of community which live in settlement specifically in rural settlement due to the wider area for cultivating land. The main characteristic of the peasant is the independence in providing their own food source. Instead of buying from market, peasants will provide food source needs from their subsistence farming. Hence, peasants tend to live casually and cultivate in household scale. Peasants have adjustments and adapt to the particular form of settlement in rural area. One of settlement form is when they have two types of house: the main house and the temporary house. The temporary house tends to be built close to the field and occupied during fertile season. This type of house can be catagorized as seasonal settlement and is an adaptation of peasant’s life in term of economy, environment, and social organization

Abstract

The environmental condition of particular landscape contributes to the way of life of people living inside it. The characteristic of Gunung Sewu karst landscape in the south of Gunungkidul Regency causes the regular drought every year. The communities who live in the area, in which the majority of them work as traditional farmers, deal with such situations and gradually adapt to harmonize their lives with those conditions. In order to cultivate their land more intensively under the pressure of environmental conditions, the farmers build omah alas, a simple house to live around their field. Omah alas has characteristics as result of the relationship between people and landscape. This paper aims to identify the characteristics of omah alas as living space for traditional farmers in karst area, specifically in Kemadang Village, and the influencing factors. This research used qualitative approach and the data were collected by field observations and informant interviews. The results showed that there are three types of space layout that are caused by site conditions. The influence of spatial character is reinforced by economic motives.

Abstract

Walking is an important element of accessibility because it can increase the livability of a city. Peunayong as a trade and service center as well as a heritage area has very diverse activities with high intensity. The density of activities in Peunayong causes high vehicle accessibility which causes congestion in the area, parking on site which narrows the space for pedestrians and vehicles. In addition, pedestrian facilities in Peunayong still do not facilitate pedestrians because of the mixing of various activities in one lane, such as circulation, parking, and trading. In creating a pedestrian-friendly, it is necessary to plan and design good pedestrian facilities, by paying attention to the characteristics of pedestrians and their district. Walkability is one of the concepts for a walkable area. The approach in this study is by adopting the walkability theory as a reference. The focus of this research is to determine the quality of walkability in Peunayong. The method of analysis uses descriptive analysis. Those that formed walkability which will become parameters in this study are Connected, Convenient, Comfort, Convivial, Conspicuous through pedestrian paths and crossings, circulation activity, block size, spatial enclosure and humanscale, open space and vegetation, street furniture and signage.
