Abstract

The dragonfly (Odonata) is a flying insect that plays an important role in the food chain and acts as a bioindicator of water health. This is due to its biological characteristics which include spending most of its life stages in the water and preying on smaller insects. This study is aimed to investigate the level of dragonfly diversity in Cibodas Botanical Garden, West Java. The method used in this research was direct observation using catch and release technique. The research was carried out from May to July 2018. A total of 1,510 individuals belonging to eight dragonfly species were found in the four sampling locations. These were divided into two Sub-Orders: 1) Anisoptera (Orthetrum pruinosum, Pantala flavences, Orthetrum sabina, Neurothemis fluctuans, Neurothemis terminata, and Orthetrum glaucum); and 2) Zygoptera (Ischnura senegalensis, dan Ceoliccia membranipes). The highest values of species diversity index (H') and evenness index (E) were found in Ciismun Waterfall (1,45 and 0,88, respectively). The dominance index (D) in the four sampling sites ranged between 0.25 - 0.32. The highest species richness index (R) was found in Sakura Garden (0,99).

Abstract

Antibiotic resistance has now become a global problem that can endanger livestock. The use of antibiotics as a trigger for the growth of livestock can have an impact on humans. This study investigated the antibiotic resistance of Ciprofloxacin and Erythromycin against Escherichia coli. 14 samples of E.coli were isolated from the intestinal colon of chickens that were kept conventionally by broiler breeders in Yogyakarta. E.coli isolates were cultured on Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (EMB) media for 24 hours at the Bacteriology Laboratory of the Indonesian Veterinary Research Institute (BBLITVET), Bogor, Indonesia. Ciprofloxacin and Erythromycin antibiotic discs were placed on EMB media and then incubated for 24 hours at 37oC. The diameter of the clear zone of inhibition and the zone of resistance inhibition was measured on each repetition using the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standard. The results obtained showed that the antibiotic Erythromycin had higher resistance than Ciprofloxacin. In conclusion, these two antibiotics can be categorized as susceptible or sensitive to E. coli bacteria

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of long fermentation time banana peel (Musa x paradiciaca ABB (cv. "Pisang Siem”) to the amount of alcohol. This research was conducted at Greenhouse FKIP UHAMKA in August-September 2015. The method used is experimental methods with completely randomized design (CRD). In this research there were 5 treatment each 6 replications. The treatment are P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5 with long fermentation time for 1 day, 3 days, 5 days, 7 days and 9 days. The results showed the level of alcohol in the treatment are 14,85% P1,19,33% P2,24,08% P3,28,23% P4 and17,21% P5.Statistical analysis showed that the treatment effect on parameters of alcohol. The high alcohol measure indicated in the treatment P4 is 28.23%. It can be concluded that the long fermentation time banana peel effect on alcohol measure. The results of the study of the effect of fermentation time on alcohol content showed a difference in the treatment. This may be because the microbes are in the exponential phase. The exponential phase is a phase when microbes experience rapid growth in which the number of cells increases exponentially with time. In the exponential phase, environmental conditions change, as substrates and nutrients are consumed while metabolism is produced. This study aims to determine the effect of long fermentation time banana peel (Musa x paradiciaca ABB (cv.
