Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the potential and benefits of medicinal plants found in production forests in Sinoa District, Bantaeng Regency. The type of data collected was quantitative and qualitative data, including types and quantities of medicinal plants, local names, parts of plants used, and types of diseases that can be treated with these plants. Vegetation analysis results showed that the diversity of medicinal plants as many as 13 species from 10 families. Vegetation which has the greatest potential at the level of the tree namely Pinus (Pinus mercusii) with a potential of 194, at the pole level was Avocado (Persea gratissima) with a potential of 100, at the sapling level namely Coffee (Coffea arabica) with a potential of 640, and at the seedling level ie Bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides) with the greatest potential is 17500. Plant parts that utilized were leaves, roots, fruits, seeds, sap, and bark. All of these parts used to treat diseases such as shortness of breath, headache, toothache, cough, diarrhea, fever, malaria, high blood pressure, diabetes, suppurating ulcers, beriberi, immune system, festering skin inflammation, and increasing brain intelligence. Besides that it can treat kidney stones, wounds, sore throat, eye medication, dry the wound, neutralize the poison boils, canker sores, bruises, swelling, and sprains.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the critical areas, analyze social values, assess land suitability, analyze and formulate the economic value of agroforestry design for optimal land use. The methods used in this study were the evaluation of land suitability, financial analysis, social analysis and  agroforestry design on critical lands. The results showed t the land in the study site should be included in the category of critical and rather critical. The land suitability evaluation on the plant types of the agrisylviculture type for the woody plant, commodity plants is categorized in S3ehf Class (marginal suitability), one seasoned plants is categorized in S3ehfn Class. Whereas the of woody plants and commodity plants is categorized in Nrc (not suitable) and one seasoned plants are categorized in S3rcn (marginal suitability). The result of the financial analysis on the agrisyviculture type is Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) is 2,84 and NPV Rp. 6.677.092/annual and the agrosylvopasura type is BCR of  2,48 and NPV as much as Rp. 7.885.844/annual, while maize monoculture showed a NPV of Rp. 487.247 and a BCR of 1,16. The agroforestry design based on the landscape recommended for the woody plants such as: Entrolobium cyclocarpum, Toona surenii, Gmelina arborea, planted on a ridge, the commodity plants such as: Myristica frahrans Houtt, Coffea sp, Aleurites molucana (L) Wild, Artocarpus communis Forst planted on the slopes and one seasoned plants grown on flat land. The conclusion of this research is the development of agroforestry is feasible to design agroforestry such as wood crops should be planted on ridges, MTPs crops should be planted on slopes while annual crops should be  planted on flat land. Key words:  agroforestry, land suitability, critical land, design

Abstract

This paper describes the ebony (Diospyros celebica Bakh.)site characteristics in Amaro Forest,Barru District, South Sulawesi including its secondary succession to create a favourable conditions for stand establishment. Association analysis shows that a wide variety of lowland species have been identified grows together with the ebony.Physical characteristics rather than chemical fertility of soils show a great value in supporting ebony stand growth.Poor stand with low natural regeneration of these remaining fragmented forests suggest the need to apply enrichment planting and improvement cutting to increase their productivity.

Abstract

Abstract

Land cover changes  that occur impact on the hydrological conditions in a watershed. The hydrological condition referred to as the output quantity of the watershed is discharge which describes the quantity of water. This study aims to determine the effect of land cover change on streamflow in the Pangkajene Watershed. The results showed that there was a decrease in average peak discharge in January of 213.73 m3/s to 95.79 m3/s in the same month in 2017. Land cover changes that occurred were mixed dryland farming of bushes into paddy fields, shrubs, and settlements while forests was experienced a slight change to open land by 0.69 ha. The increase in the area of paddy fields and shrubs as large as it causes the average discharge to decrease. A decrease in the average monthly discharge in the Pangkajene watershed due to rainfall on its way into the rice irrigation water experienced process begin from, is accommodated, evaporates, so that the flow up to the river becomes small. In addition, rainfall in 2009 which is the input of the Pangkajene watershed is higher than in 2017.

Abstract

Research on the analysis of the anatomy of the stomatal and trichomes of the medicinal plant Dandang Gendis Clinacanthus nutans (Burm.f.) Lindau in Makassar City. This study aims to determine the anatomical structure of the stomatal and trichomes of longitudinal cross-section of leaves that are used as herbal medicines. This research method was used to spread acetone to obtain stomatal prints on the leaf surface, the data were analyzed descriptively. The results of the analysis of the anatomy of the stomatal and trichomes of leaves of the medicinal plant Dandang Gendis Clinacanthus nutans (Burm.f.) Lindau was a diacytic type of stomatal, the spread of stomatal was only found on the surface of the abaxial leaf including the apple type. The number of abaxial stomatal was 160 stomatal/mm2. The number of epidermal cells was 748 epidermis/mm2 and abaxial 504 epidermis/mm2, stomatal index 23.95%, and stomatal size 159.26 µm. On the adaxial and abaxial surfaces of the leaves of Dandang Gendis Clinacanthus nutans (Burm.f.) Lindau, glandular and lithocyst trichomes were encountered.
