Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine (1) the description of student decisions in choosing online studies at UPBJJ UT Jambi, and (2) the factors that influence student decisions in choosing online studies at UPBJJ UT Jambi. The results showed that (1) the student's decision variable in choosing online studies was in the high category with an average of 4.29 and the Respondent Achievement Level (TCR) of 85.81, (2) There were 6 (six) dominant factors that influenced the decision. students in choosing online studies, namely (a) Factor 1 which is given the identity of the Motivation, which consists of statement items F8, F9, F10, F11, and F12, (b) Factor 2 which is given the identity of the Reference Group, which consists of statement items F19 , F20, and F21, (c) Factor 3 which is given the identity of Belief and Attitude, which consists of statement items F4, F16, F17, and F18, (d) Factor 4 which is given the identity of Economic State, which consists of statement items F3, F5, and F6, (e) Factor 5 which is given the identity of Perception, which consists of statement items F14, F15, and F26, and (f) Factor 6 which is assigned the identity of Role and Status, which consists of statement items F23, F24, and F25.

Abstract

Speaking is one of the skills that have to be mastered by students in learning English. Speaking is an essential tool for communicating. In the classroom, improving the speaking abilities of students has always been a concern. In the fast developing 21st century various innovative technologies are being introduced to teach speaking skill in the classrooms. Technology is the vehicle to get access with this modernized world. More than the process of communication, trade and transactions, today technology is widely used in educational sectors. Technological tools have been regarded as ways of helping students improve language skills such as speaking skill. Internet, podcasts, video conferencing, videos and speech recognition software are considered the best tools for teaching speaking skill. This paper aims to discuss some modern technologies available for teachers of English today to enhance speaking skill of second or foreign language learners.

Abstract

In a distance learning program, UT is not only required to provide assistances in formulating independent learning materials, examination material, tutorials, practice classes, and examinations with the distance characters, but also to build students’ awareness to learn independently. Almost all learning resources at UT are in printed materials-books. Students must be prepared to learn independently to succeed in a distance learning program, supported by having a suitable strategy on reading of givens learning sources. The reading activities for students to exercise are very important in their independent learning. Therefore, comprehensing texts is crucial for academic success. The strategy is needed efficiently to increase students reading activity and practically enable students to understand a text comprehensively.Concept mapping is considered as one of strategies which hopefully used to improve student’s reading comprehension, especially for Open University student, whose a particular long distance characters of academic study. This strategy is provided since they can use their time effectively so that they can study regularly according to their own schedule. From the study of improving students’ reading comprehension by using concept mapping at sixth semester of PGSD program of Open University of Bengkulu, it was found that Concept Mapping can improve students’ reading comprehension. This can be evidenced from the students’ means which gradually improved in cycle one, two and three.  In particular, the study provided the discussion of 7 indicators of reading comprehension that were improved by using concept maps during the research, as the result of Concept Mapping contribution.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to give information about qualitative findings on students’ translation strategy used by students in the private Junior High School in Indonesia. There are 22 partcipants of this study. Observation and interview were used in collecting data for this study. This study used qualitative research, the aims was to get more information about translation strategy of the students in the Juior High School. The most strategies used by students was Literal translation, the score were 153 from 23 sentences of narrative text. The students says that “Interpreted by literal to make it easier and I always use the dictionary when translating”. It adds also by teacher that “the most students translate the text by literal, and used dictionary”. The highest score was not affected by translating strategy. However, the highest score obtained based on the effective translation or the translation results that contain the same meaning of the source language to the target language.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze (1) how the academic community understands the Independent Learning Campus (MKBM) policy, and (2) what are the supporting factors and inhibiting factors in the implementation of the MKBM program at the Muhammadiyah University of Jambi. The research method used is a mixed research method that combines a quantitative approach through surveys and a qualitative approach with interviews as an instrument in data research. Research informants came from the academic community who collected 550 people ranging from leaders, educators (lecturers), education staff, librarians, laboratory officers, and students of the Muhammadiyah Jambi University who were selected through purposive sampling. The survey results showed that the informants did not fully understand the MBKM program where 44% stated that they only knew, 27% were confused, 18% knew most of the MBKM program, 9% understood the MBKM program, and 2% did not fill out or choose. The results of the interviews illustrate that the preparation of the MBKM program has been running with a structured and systematic system. Although the informant also stated that the independent learning program was still new, funding or budget, quality of human resources, and supervision (process and results) were the determining factors supporting as well as inhibiting the readiness and sustainability of the MBKM program.

Abstract

Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk: (1) menguji hubungan Kepemimpinan Transformasional Kepala Sekolah dengan Komitmen Organisasi Guru; (2) menguji hubungan Motivasi Kerja Guru dengan Komitmen Organisasi Guru; dan (3) menguji hubungan Kepemimpinan Transformasional Kepala Sekolah dan Motivasi Kerja Guru dengan Komitmen Organisasi Guru Sekolah Dasar Negeri di Kecamatan Pamulang. Jenis penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kuantitatif, dan metode yang digunakan adalah metode korelasional. Pengujian dilakukan dengan menggunakan SPSS 22.0. Sampel penelitian ini diperoleh dengan metode slovin berjumlah 86 guru. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah angket tertutup. Pengumpulan data diperoleh dengan metode angket. Uji validitas dengan teknik analisis data Product Moment dan Uji Reliabilitas dengan Alpha Cronbach. Hasil penelitian berdasarkan hasil uji Korelasi Parsial diperoleh nilai koefisien korelasi (Correlation) r hitung Kepemimpinan Transformasional sebesar 0,771 (positif) dan Motivasi Kerja sebesar 0,750 (positif) > r tabel sebesar 0,2133 artinya kedua variabel tersebut memiliki hubungan yang positif dan signifikan dengan Komitmen Organisasi Guru. Hasil uji nilai signifikansi F change sebesar 0,000 < 0,05 dan F change 85, 717 > F tabel 3, 10 artinya terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara kepemimpinan transformasional Kepala Sekolah dan motivasi kerja guru dengan komitmen organisasi guru. Adapun tingkat keeratan hubungan tersebut adalah 0,821 dengan kategori korelasi tinggi. Temuan pada penelitian ini adalah guru PNS lebih mendapatkan prioritas perhatian dari pemerintah dalam hal peningkatan kemampuan profesionalnya melalui pendidikan dan juga pelatihan-pelatihan dibandingkan guru non-PNS.

Abstract

The use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in agricultural education in developing countries has become very important in improving the quality and productivity of agriculture, as well as addressing the problems faced by farmers in developing countries. The aim of this research is to describe the experience of using ICT in agricultural education in developing countries, as well as to identify the advantages and disadvantages of using ICT. The method used in this study is a literature review by collecting data from various sources such as articles, books, and research reports. The results of the study show that the use of ICT in agricultural education in developing countries has been done in various ways, such as the development of agricultural applications, distance learning, and the use of simulation software. Although there are some obstacles such as limited access and dependence on technology, the use of ICT in agricultural education in developing countries can provide advantages in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of learning, as well as expanding social networks and collaboration among students. However, to optimize the advantages and overcome the limitations of using ICT in agricultural education in developing countries, cooperation between the government, educational institutions, and technology industry is needed in building adequate ICT infrastructure, providing affordable ICT access, as well as providing training and technical support for ICT users in agricultural education.

Abstract

This research aims to compare the factors that influence students' academic achievement in learning assistance services (TUWEB, TUTON, TMK) at UPBJJ-UT Bengkulu. This research used a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The total population in this study was 11,854 people, with a sample of 1185 respondents. The research instrument used was a questionnaire with the data analysis technique for this research using multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this research showed that the overall cumulative achievement index of respondents had the highest average GPA obtained by TUWEB service users, namely 3.56, and the lowest was the average GPA of TMK service users was 3.21, while the average GPA of TUTON learning assistance service users was 3.40. The variables of learning motivation, learning assistance, and learning media influence the Grade Point Average (GPA). Meanwhile, the independent variables that do not partially affect the Grade Point Average (GPA) were age, marital status, employment status, participation in academic service assistance, level of perception towards UT, and the independent learning system and network quality.
