Abstract

The main source of revenue for forestry  development up to now still depends on natural forest  which is the main source of wood for  the industries. In the utilization of natural forest  the assessment  of  stumpage  value  is  important  to  determine  the profit  margin  that  goes  to goverment as well as to the concession holder. The  objective  of  this  study  is  to  get  clear  picture  on  the  cost  components  of forest concession and to know the stumpage value of forest  land.  To determine the stumpage value a production  cost analysis was done based on a year operation of concession holder. The  results  showed  that  the  cost  components  of  log production  consists  of planning, building main road and skidding road, road maintenance and log houling with total production cost Rp.  58.480,- per  m3 for felled  area of  1000 ha with production  of meranti and mixed species each 22.003,47   m3  and 7. 720, 78 m3,  respectively. Based on profit ratio 35% which went to concession holder there is still surplus which the goverment presently does not collect as forest   owner. Based  on  this  result goverment  revenue in  the forms  of  forest  product  fee, reforestation fund and concession fee can be increased up to 200% from present level.Key Word  : Natural  Forest,  Stumpage  Value,   Forest Concession, Production Cost, Forest Product Fee,  Reforestation Fund, Concession Fee.

Abstract

The  development  of  domestic   market  of  plywood  relies  heavily  on  the effective   demand  for plywood  or buying  power   in  real sense.                                                                                                               This  research is aimed  at studying   the pattern   of  relation  ship  between   the  consumption  of plywod  by household in Central  Java  and  East  Java  and  some  factors  influencing  it.The  average volume  of plywood  annually  consumed   by household   is of 0.0152  m3 per year per  family   (with  average of  3. 6 persons/family).   The  variables  that  influence  the effective  demand  of plywood are family  income,  price  of plywood and  the  number   of  family   member.    The  elasticity   of  the  demand   of  the  three  factors  is  of  0.3365  implying   that  the consumption of plywood  is inelastic  to the change of  the three factors.

Abstract

There is a need to classify fire  wood for flue/  based on energy content.   This research is conducted  to categorized fire wood species using discriminant  analysis.Data of which collected from  each of  research areas are plant  varieties for  fire  wood,  age classification,  annual  volume  increase,   specific gravity,  calor value and volume  of  extractive  elements.Variety of  woods used for fire  wood are Akasia  (Acacia   auriculiformis),   Akasia  (Acacia decurrens),  Kaliandra  (Calliandra  callothyrsus), Gamal  (Gliricidia  maculata),  Kemlandingan   (Leucaena  glauca),  Turi  (Sesbania   grandiflora)   and  Jati  (Tectona  grandis). For  the purpose   of analysis of the type of relationship  between  annual volume  increase (X1), specific  gravity  (X2),  calor value (X3),  volume  of extractive  elements (X4) and the adaptation order of plant  varieties for fire  wood is clasified by the discriminant function. The function is also used for  determining adaptation  order of utilization  of plant  varieties for fire  wood.Based on the discriminant  analysis it can be expressed  as:Yj = 0.2148X1j + 9.7184X2j + 0.7231 X3j - 6.7121 X4j..................................................................(1).                                               The result of average substitutions of annual volume increase, as specific gravity,  ca/or value increase and volume of extractive elements  decreased as described by the equation  (I).  It can be said that (the adaptation  order of plant  varieties for  fire  wood) produced  from   the most  to the least based on its number of heat of combustion  at the plantation  age 2, 3 and 4 years are Akasia   (Acacia decurrens), Akasia  (Acacia auriculiformis), Kaliandra  (Calliandra callethyrsus),   Gamal  (Gliricidia  maculata),  Kemlandingan  (Leucaena   glauca),  Turi  (Sesbania  grandiflora)   and  Jati (Tectona  grandis).

Abstract

Nowadays,  the role  of timber industry in Malaysia becomes more important. The rapid growth of timber industry can be illustrated by the increase  of the production  level of plywood and veneer. An annual increase of plywood production  since 1960 to 1988  was 1,519 %   The  increase  of plywood  production  is facing  a  number  of problems  such  as  decreasing in supply  of logs,  furher processing  of log is still undeveloped,  competition from  non wood materials such as steel,      concrete,  alumunium  and plastic,. Also price competition with  competitor countries such  as Indonesia and Philippine.   The objectives of this paper  is to study  the timber industry development,  especially  plywood industry and economic factors  which influenced Malaysia's plywood price where. a multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the plywood price. The results of the analysis shows that export price of plywood from  the competitor countries especially indonesia  and Philippines has influenced very significantly to the price fluctuation of Malaysia plywood.  It explained up to 88  % of the price fluctuations.  the remaining  12  %   is  explained  by some  other factors.   In  other  words,  the  competitions  price   is the  most prominant factor   in determining  the price fluctuation of Malaysian plywood.

Abstract

Presently, the role of forestry sector in indonesia becomes very important. In 1990/1991,forestry  sector  has contributed the second largest foreign  exchange after oil and gas.  For the last few  years,  a transition has taken place  in the forest  industries, namely from primary industries to secondary   or tertiary industries which is expected to increase added value of forest products.  The objective of this study is to analize.  the profitability of an enterprise producing several secondary products such as moulding, dowet, jointed  board, finger jointed product, and table top.The results showed    that annual production  of moulding, dowel, jointed board, finger jointed   product,  and table top were 26.880 m3,  12,000 m3, 5.760 m3, 5.760 m3, and 2,880 m3. respectively. Production costs per cubic meter of moulding, dowel, jointed  board, finger  jointed  product,   and  table  top  were  Rps 618.053,-,  Rps    612.333,-,  Rps  631.537,-,  Rps  622.967,-  and  Rps 654.417,-, respectively. Payback period  was relatively short (4.04 years),  Net present  value (NPV) showed positive  value, and internal rate of return  (IRR) was higher than  average  bank interest. However,  NPV was sensitive to a decrease  in production,   15  %  decrease  in production would cause NPV to become negative.

Abstract

One  of  the  products   that  can  be produced   from  secondary  process  of plywood  is fancy  plywood.  The product   is usually  constructed by  overlaying  plywood   with  fancy   veneer  or  other   material  with  nice  decorative  appearance.   This process  will add extra  value to  the final product   intern of selling price as compared  with  ordinary plywood.  In this study fancy. plywood   is constructed   by  overlaying plywood  with  fancy  veneer of  jati,   mahoni  and  rengas.Added  value of fancy plywood  (from plywood)in  three ply mills in North Sumatra  amounted   to Rp.1,032,749,600 in one  year resulted  from 5141 cu.m of  plywood. The  value  is accounted   for  production  factors  with   the  following proportion: 17.73 % from depreciation   factor, 21.94 % from  labour  cost,  and  60.33  % from  profit, taxes,  and  others. The employment created  by  each factory is 48  workers  which  are  equal to 13,920  man days  per year.

Abstract

Precently  non-oil   export   development     is  very   important    for  Indonesia's   economy.    This  study   is  to  analize, Indonesia's   plywood   export   development,   in particular   to  Japan,  and  to  discuss  some  factors   which  are supposed   to influence   it.In  line with  the  fast growth  of plywood  industry   in Indonesia  there  is diversification   of  export   markets.  Plywood export   to Japan  goes  on  to increase, and  now  80%  of  the Japan's  total plywood  import  come  from  Indonesia. The  result   of  this study  shows  that market  potential of Indonesia's  plywood  to Japan large enough,  especially  if it is perceived   from  the number  of population   of age 15 years and  up  (Xl),   where  the regression  coefficient   has shown   that each increase of  1000   people   in the population  of age 15 years and up would  increase the Indnoesia 's plywood  export  for around  50 m3.  But  there is some  c;on~traints which suppress  the market  potential,   among  other  things are Japan's plywood production,    consumers  preference   and government's   protective  policy.   The  market  share of Indonesia's   to Japan  can be increased  if  the  constraints   are relaxed.
