Abstract

This paper critically views the epistemology of Muhammad Abid al Jabiri’s interpretation in his book, Madkhal ila al Quran al Karim. His latest work is projected to make the Quran relevant to mankind today and with certainly critiquing classical Quranic studies that have been constructed by previous scholars. Starting from Arab criticism, which is expected to synergize the gap between Turath and modernity, al Jabiri tried out his theory in the realm of Quranic studies oriented to maintain its originality and interpretation from sectarian influence. Focusing on al Jabiri’s review on the Quran, this paper examines and associates some of the problems with the epistemology of critique in Arab reasoning. Finally, it is inferred that the epistemologic offer of al Jabiri used in Turath is not fully applicable in Quranic studies for several reasons. First, the Quranic studies existed within the chain of sanad in its formation. Secondly, at the application stage, al Jabri often overlooked the sanad and narrations from the companions.

Abstract

This is a philological study of the manuscript tafsîr bi al-Imlâ’ surat al-Baqarah Kyai Zaini Mun’im, the first founder of Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School Paiton, Probolinggo. This study deals to discuss systematic, forms, methods, style and ideology that contained in the script of tafsîr bi al-imlâ’ surat al-Baqarah. Having studied manuscript of tafsîr bi al-Imlâ’, it can be identified that: commentaries (tafsîr) of Kyai Zaini used tartib muṣḥafî’s systematic presentation, ra'yî’s form, taḥlîlî’s method, adabî ijtima'î’s style and Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah’s ideology. In addition, this study also found that the interpretation bi al-imlâ’ many affected by tafsîr al-Marâghî of Shaikh al-Marâghî and al-Manâr by Shaikh Muhammad Abduh and Rasyid Rida, in the form of ideas and writing formats. Nevertheless, in some interpretation on certain verses, Kyai Zaini’s interpretation is partly different from the two interpretation above, and it becomes its own peculiarities of the intellectual work of islamic boarding school.

Abstract

Hadis Nabi saw. memerlukan upaya pemahaman yang segar danbaru sesuai konteks kekinian. Tulisan ini membahas reinterpretasi tentangkonsep mahram dengan menggunakan pendekatan teori hermeneutika.Teori ini digunakan dan dibutuhkan dalam rangka menemukan bentukideal pemahaman hadis nabi saw. dalam konteks sosial. Dengan pendekatanbaru ini, artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan tersebut mampumemandang hadis dari sudut yang berbeda sehingga mampu memberikanvariasi tawaran pemahaman hadis. Hadis tentang konsep mahram tidakdapat dipahami dari aspek dogmatis-normatif, tetapi lebih dipandangsebagai sebuah fenomena sosial yang selanjutnya berubah sesuai denganakselerasi perubahan kehidupan manusia. Tulisan ini menghasilkankesimpulan bahwa larangan perempuan bepergian, baik bertujuanmalaksanakan ibadah haji atau untuk kepentingan yang lain, adalah bersifattemporal sesuai dengan standar keamanan.Kata Kunci : Reinterpretasi, Hermeneutika, Mahram.

Abstract

The interpretation methodology of Koran always has significant development. No death of interpretation, because the interpretation methodology will develop agree with throb of people civilization and language development. A matter of fact, Koran is a guidance book for man with Arabic language. For example, dalâl. Although concept of dalâl was exist at Muhammed period, but there are many distortion and wrong conclution after Muhammed, and lost of essential meaning of dalâl. Some people or some community said that dalâl is used to tought that considered wrong or deviate on right way, in other opinion they said that dalâl just for unbeliever, polytheist, immoral in law, and the others. The difference opinion is none other than different interpretation method to word of dalâl. Because of that, the writer interested to analyze dalâl with semantic method. Because the writer is conviced about semantic will give some enticement concept of dalâl.

Abstract

a phenomenon that occurs in Arabic, even did not rule contained in almost all languages on earth. As an Arabic text, whether the Koran cannot duck and dodge the fact tarâduf growing presence in the Arabic tradition? In other words, if the Koran also collects some words lexical meanings which have in common sense? Or whether every word that has the same meaning in the Koran cannot be equated entirely? Therefore, the wording in the Koran, in addition to having specificity in every meaning also has a different meaning to the other and the word has suitability in order. This article appeared before the readers to explain the words which have been considered to have the same meaning in the Koran from the perspective of linguistic science and the Koran.

Abstract

This article figures out ideological biases in Abū Rashtah Book’s, al-Taysīr fī 'Ulūm al-Tafsīr: Tafsir al-Baqarah. As a figure of ḥizb al-taḥrīr, Abū Rashtah's interpretation strengthens his organization's ideology and to oppose the ulama's interpretation. This article questions how the al-Taysīr methodology was used by Abū Rashtah for interpreting al-Qur'an and how the biases of Abū Rashtah's interpretation in his book. By using thematic writing techniques on khilāfah verses and using descriptive analysis methods, This research concludes that the method of interpretation applied in his book prioritizes linguistic analysis and the use of reason. Through this method of language based on reason, it was found that there were ideological biases. One of them is the persuasion of the enforcement of the khilāfah Islamiyyah system when he interprets the QS. Al-Baqarah: 30. Abū Rashtah is of the view that this verse is the normative basis for the enforcement of the khilāfah system. Apart from the above verse, the invitation to enforce the khilāfah system can also be found in the QS interpretation of al-Baqarah: 105. Abū Rashtah believes that the Khilāfah Islamiyyah will soon be established on the face of the earth according to Allah's promise.

Abstract

إن السؤال المركزي في هذا البحث العلمي يتمحور على الدراسة الاستقصائية عن مراجع التفســير بباسنترين في جاوى الشــرقة. ويستند هذا الاستطلاع على المسائل التي تجري في باسنترين بأن دراسة التفسير والقرآن فيه لا يجوز أن يستخدم الكتاب سوى مرجع واحد وهو تفسير الجلالين، مع أن فيه بعض العبارات العنفية. انطلاقا من هذه المشكلة، فإن هذه الدراسة تبحث قضيتان: لماذا توقفت مراجع التفسير في باسنترين؟ وكيف يفهم كياهي المادة العنفية الواردة في تفسير الجلالين؟. هذا البحث هو دراسة ميدانية من خلال كياهي مرجعا أساسيا وخلال مشاركة الباحث في تعليم التفسير في باسنترين. في تحليل البيانات الرئيسية، تستخدم هذه الدراسة منهج التأويل هانز جورج غادامير (Hans-Georg Gadamer). جديرا باثنتا عشر باسنترين في جاوى الشرقية، حصلت هذه الدراسة نتيجتين، وهي: (1) أن التفسير في باسنترين بني على أساس نظام السند من ناحية سلسلة المعرفة التي تشدد على سلطة كياهي؛ (2) جهد كياهي في معالجة العبارات العنفية في تفسير الجلالين بأن يترك المادة العنفية وتحويلها إلى المادة اللاعنفية على طريق العقيئد واستخذامه بقوة سلطته الكارزمية. وفي هذه القضية، اتفق الباحث على قول مارتن فان برونسن القائلين أن نظم المعرفة في جاوى الشرقية تأسس على قول كياهي، لا على ما يقرأه المجتمع.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to observe the contestation and academic reception of fatwas issued by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) regarding Covid-19. These fatwas invite many responses in academic circles written in reputable journal articles. With a qualitative research paradigm and using Hans Robert Jauss text reception theory, this research concludes that; this study found four typologies of the MUI Fatwa monograph on Covid-19 during 2020-2021; namely (1) Monograph Typology, which discusses the Role of Fatwa (6 titles); (2) Discussing aspects of contact with other scientific disciplines, such as Maqāṣid,; (3) Unraveling the 'tangled thread' conflicting interpretations of the fatwa; (4) an article that measures the level of obedience of the Indonesian Muslim community to the MUI fatwa. Of the existing articles, 13 were built with justification based on the text, 5 articles were built with apologetic reasoning, and 3 used critical reasoning. From this conclusion, this study confirms that the academic response to the MUI Fatwa on Covid-19 also experienced Fragmentation, Resistance, and Appreciation.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss Muhammad Izzat Darwazah’s perspective about the sword verses and the issues of its abrogation towards the peaceful verses (ayat al-silm) on al-Tafsīr al-h}adīth Tartīb al-Suwar h}asb al-Nuzūl. This paper focuses on the problem; how is Darwazah’s perspective on the theory of abrogation, that the peaceful verses have been abrogated by the sword verses? Furthermore, how is Darwazah’s perspective on the sword verses and its relation to the peaceful verses from a sociolinguistic perspective? Using a literary research method and a sociolinguistic approach, this article concludes that, according to Darwazah, there is no abrogation of peaceful verses by the sword verses. To prove his point, Darwazah presents the facts and conditions when the sword verses were revealed. This research also concludes that, through sociolinguistic analysis, wars/jihād never occurred during the prophet’s time except for self-defense. Furthermore, Darwazah argues that the sword verses, which are often used by Muslim extremists to legitimize their actions, have a different context from today, when inter-religious communities live peacefully.
