Abstract

For at least hundreds of years Arab travelers and merchants, especially those originating from Hadhramaut, have had special relationship with Southeast Asia and its people. Historically this relationship has been very deep and permanent; sociologically extensive and continuous; and culturally heavy manifesting in various significant, and influential ways. One such influence is the adoption of many Arabic elements in the languages used in Indonesia. On the contrary, the Arabic language used by the Hadhramis in the archipelago was also influenced by Malayo-Indonesian language. This study aims to describe such use of loan words from Malay and Dutch in the Arabic language of the Hadhramis. The present study is data oriented. Some twenty-five copies of letters written in Arabic by the Hadhramis are analyzed. A closer look at the letters or correspondences from and to Hadhramaut and the Indonesian archipelago revealed that some Malay and Dutch lexicons were also used in their correspondences which were written in Arabic. Such use may indicate at least two aspects, socio-linguistic and socio-political. At the socio-linguistic aspect, the use of Malay and Dutch elements can be said as early process of bilingualism and adoption of new linguistic identity, while at the socio-political level such use shows how the beginning of the identification and adoption of new local or national identity.

Abstract

Knowledge integration has been studied as the process of incorporating new information into a body of existing knowledge with an interdisciplinary approach. Language is not only the object of the scientific study of linguistics but also the object of study of other related disciplines. The importance of language in many studies and disciplines of knowledge has led to its status as a condition sin qua non to a true understanding of other scientific objects of disciplines of knowledge. The mastery of the Arabic language for example is a must for the study of Islamic religious texts. The religion of Islam places language in a very high position that it is explicitly mentioned in the Qur’an as one of the signs of the existence of God. Keywords: Linguistics, language, Islam, Shari’ah.

Bahasa bukan hanya objek kajian ilmiah linguistik, tetapi juga objek kajian disiplin ilmu lain yang terkait. Pentingnya bahasa dalam banyak studi dan disiplin ilmu telah menyebabkan statusnya sebagai syarat sin qua non untuk pemahaman yang benar tentang objek ilmiah dari disiplin ilmu lainnya. Penguasaan bahasa Arab misalnya merupakan suatu keharusan untuk mempelajari teks-teks agama Islam. Agama Islam menempatkan bahasa pada posisi yang sangat tinggi sehingga secara eksplisit disebutkan dalam al-Qur’an sebagai salah satu tanda keberadaan Tuhan. Kata Kunci: Bahasa, Islam, Linguistik, Syariat.

Abstract

AbstractThe converts in strengthening their religion need moral and social support. This is based on the commitment and consequences of post-conversion converts who are vulnerable to conflict and threats from within the family. Several studies that discuss the issue of converts are more focused on the process of religious conversion. Meanwhile, converts who receive threats from the family need special empowerment with the aim of giving the right to freedom of religion. Therefore, researchers will discuss the issue of post-conversion converts and the role of KKN students in fostering converts. This study uses a psychological approach to religion and the theory of religious empowerment. The research method used is descriptive-qualitative by observing more closely in life so that it is easier to follow the flow of life. Data collection includes participatory observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using data reduction procedures, data presentation and data leveraging using triangulation methods, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study: 1) The converts received threats and severance of relations with their families after the creed. 2) Students provide moral assistance in assisting converts after the creed by assisting the process of religious stabilization after the creed.AbstrakPara mualaf dalam memantapkan keberagamaannya membutuhkan dukungan moral dan sosial. Hal ini berdasarkan komitmen dan konsekuensi mualaf pasca konversi yang rentan dengan konflik maupun ancaman dari pihak keluarga. Beberapa penelitian yang membahas isu mualaf lebih fokus dalam proses konversi agama. Sedangkan mualaf yang mendapatkan ancaman dari pihak keluarga membutuhkan pemberdayaan khusus dengan tujuan memberikan hak kebebasan beragama. Oleh karena itu, peneliti akan membahas problem mualaf pasca konversi dan peran Mahasiswa KKN dalam membina para mualaf. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan psikologi agama dan teori pemberdayaan keagamaan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu deskriptif-kualitatif dengan mengamati lebih dekat dalam kehidupan informan sehingga lebih mudah untuk mengikuti alur kehidupannya. Pengumpulan data meliputi observasi partisipatif, wawancara, kuisioner, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data yang dilakukan dengan prosedur reduksi data, penyajian data serta verifikasi data menggunakan metode triangulasi, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) Para mualaf mendapatkan ancaman dan pemutusan hubungan dengan keluarga pasca syahadat. 2) Mahasiswa memberikan bantuan moral dalam pendampingan mualaf pasca syahadat dengan tujuan membantu proses pemantapan beragama pasca syahadat.
