Abstract

l-menthyl acetic is an ester with specific aroma that synthesized by reaction of l-menthol and acetic anhydride and useful in fragrance industry. This paper reports influenced variation of time reaction toward ester product and characteristics l- menthyl acetic based on TLC, FTIR, GC and GC-MS. Reaction using l-menthol, acetic anhydride and catalyst H­2­SO­4­ 98 % in diethyl eter solvent at temperature 60 °C with variation of time reaction (45, 60, 75, 90, 105 minutes). The result of research is variation of time influence product with highest yield 88,43 % for 90 minutes. Monitoring TLC achived R­f­ = 0,82; analysis by FTIR achived specific wave number ester 1736,96 cm-1; analysis by GC achived t­r­ = 14,82 minutes and analysis by GC-MS achived t­r­ = 16,13 minutes with base peak m/z = 95.

Abstract

Herbal medicine can naturally be obtained from plants. Not only whole plants, parts of plant waste that have not been used optimally such as sweet corn hair can be efficacious as herbal medicine. Sweet corn hair contains active compounds that have the potential as a source of natural antioxidant drugs. The utilization of sweet corn hair can effectively increase the food value of the plant waste. The purpose of this study was to determine the content of secondary metabolites in sweet corn hair and the ability of antioxidant activity. Sweet corn hair extraction was obtained by the maceration method in ethanol solvent. Phytochemical screening tests were carried out qualitatively using test reagents. Testing of antioxidant activity using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method with various in concentrations of 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, and 150 ppm. The results showed that qualitatively the ethanol extract contained flavonoid compounds such as, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins. While the antioxidant activity test showed moderate ability with an IC50 value of 115.376 ppm. Obat herbal secara alamiah dapat diperoleh dari tanaman. Tidak hanya tanaman utuh, bagian limbah tanaman pun yang belum dimanfaatkan secara maksimal seperti rambut jagung manis yang dapat berkhasiat sebagai obat herbal. Rambut jagung manis memiliki kandungan senyawa aktif yang berpotensi sebagai sumber obat antioksidan alami. Pemanfaatan rambut jagung manis secara efektif dapat menaikkan nilai pangan limbah tanaman tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui secara kualitatif kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder pada tanaman rambut jagung manis dan kemampuan aktivitas antioksidan. Ekstraksi rambut jagung manis diperoleh melalui metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol. Pengujian skrining fitokimia dilakukan secara kualitatif menggunakan reagen uji. Pengujian aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH (2,2-difenil-1-pikrilhidrazil) dengan variasi konsentrasi berupa 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, dan 150 ppm. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara kualitatif ekstrak etanol mengandung senyawa metabolit sekunder berupa flavonoid, alkaloid, tanin, dan saponin. Sedangkan uji aktivitas antioksidan menunjukkan kemampuan sedang dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 115,376 ppm.
