Abstract

Vygotsky was born in Orsha, Russia, 1896 and died inMoskow, 1934 due to tuberculosis. He had suffered since the ageof 38. In his so short but very productive lifetime, he produceda lot of psychology theories about intellectual development.Vygotsky’s main work was in developmental psychology, and heproposed a theory of the development of higher cognitive functionsin children that saw the emergence of the reasoning as emergingthrough practical activity in a social environment. The theoriesare, among others, concerned with the role of social interaction incognitive development, the dialectic of mind and language, conceptdevelopment, and the zone of proximal development. This articlediscussess those theories namely, the role of socioculture, as well astheir implications in Islamic education for children.
