Abstract

Every litterateur makes existing issues or phenomena as inspiration in making literary works. In case with novelist, they convey criticism expressly or implicitly in their novel. Besides the love story, the Konspirasi Alam Semesta novel by Fiersa Besari, the author also criticizes the social conditions that exist in Indonesia. Social criticism in the novel will be the purpose of this research. Furthermore, this research focuses on analyzing the Konspirasi Alam Semesta novel using a sociological literary approach with social criticism. The research method is qualitative research methods with reading and note-taking techniques. The purpose of the research is to describe the problem of social criticism and the form of its presentation in the novel. The research result has obtained: (1) social criticism about politics such as discrimination against families of ex- political prisoner, government policies towards those who have made the country proud, Papua’s wealth and injustice in the development of remote areas, (2) moral criticism of corruption, (3) social criticism of humanity such as generalizations about a group, individual differences, violence against separatists and stigma about spinster, (4) social criticism about religion / belief about the creator. It can be concluded that the author implicitly conveyed his message and response through the Konspirasi Alam Semesta novel. It describes conditions that deviate from social conditions that must be criticized. This novel revives the people’s insights about social problems that exist in Indonesia. Furthermore, the author’s main topic of social criticism is political and humanitarian in Indonesia.

Abstract

Machine Translation (MT) is one of the most advanced and elaborate research fields within Translation Technology, the quality of MT output has always been a great concern, and MT evaluation is a popular research topic. This research aims to assess the quality translation on the gender markers lingual unit of the Arabic short story "عَبْدُ اللهِ وَالْعُصْفُوْرُ" which is translated to English and Indonesian using Machine Translation. The research was qualitatively-based method. The subject is gender markers lingual unit that taken from the Arabic short story "عَبْدُ اللهِ وَالْعُصْفُوْرُ".  The key instrument of this research is human instrument. Additional instruments used to support this research consisted tables of the lingual units of gender markers and table of rating scales based on Nababans' theory (2012). The research findings showed that this analysis has discovered were 72 lingual units of gender markers in the short story.  Further, the dominant type was personal pronoun. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the google translate translation on the gender markers lingual units have the high quality on the accuracy, acceptance, and readability level.

Abstract

Song lyrics have some purposes, reasons, and messages. It contains various themes such as current and social issues and issues that the songwriter wants to share through the ideology, thoughts and feelings expressions. This research aims at finding out the text analysis, social cognition and social context of the All Will Be Fine song. The research used a qualitative research design. The key instrument of the research is human instrument. In validating the data, this research used the triangulation technique. Further, the data were analyzed using Van Djik’s analysis model. It was analyzed through the dimensions of text (macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure), social cognition and social context. The research used Agih method to analyze three stages of text dimensions and Padan method to determine the social cognition and social context of the song lyric. Based on the analysis that has been done, the results provided that the words of discourse were cohesive, coherent and communicative. In addition, the social cognition diction of the song lyrics has been relatable to the current condition and Covid-19 all around the world as social context.
