Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine and to assess the milk production of Holstein Friesian cows in Capita Farm based on its lactation period. The research was conducted on 29thSeptember – 28thOctober 2019. The materials used in the study were 59 FH dairy cows in the lactation period of 1-6 and lactation months of 1-10. The body weight was 497.71 ± 44.73 kg and the milk production was 14.43 ± 4.43 liters / day / head. The study was conducted by observation. The parameters observed were the lactation period and daily milk production. Afterward, the daily milk production was converted into milk production in one lactation period. The difference in milk production of one lactation period between the lactation periods was determined by the independent sample t test at level of 5%. The results of this research showed that the peak production in the 4th lactation period was 4458.26 liter/lactation, while the 1st, 2nd, 3th, 5th, 6th lactation periods were 3976.85; 4100.01; 4143.85; 3850.27; 2938.56 liter/lactation, respectively. The 6th lactation period was significantly lower than the others withproduction capability of 65.91% of the mature equivalent (ME). It was concluded that the Holstein Friesian dairy cows inCapita Farm has the highest production in the 4th lactation period, but there is a real difference in production when it enters the 6thperiod.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out and examine the relationship between dry matter intake (DMI) and body weight of dry-off cows on calf performance. This research was conducted at CV. Capita Farm and Rias farmers group in Getasan, Semarang Regency, Central Java. The research material was 26 cows and 26 calves that were born. This research was conducted observationally with the observed parameters were changes in the cow's body weight and consumption of DMI for 2 weeks before parturition with data collection every week, and also calf body weight and calf body measuremnets including body length, height and chest circumference at birth. The model of the relationship between parameters was tested with a simple regression test and t-test to determine differences in birth weight between male and female calves. The results showed that the weight of the parent body and the amount of dry-off DMI cow consumption at the end of dry periode did not correlate with calf body weight and calf body size. Calf body weight was influenced by gender with males having heavier weights than birth weight of female calves. Weight of male and female calf was 40.93 and 35.91 kg, respectively. In conclusion, the body weight of the dry-off cows and DMI of the dry-off cows could not be used to estimate the birth weight and body measureents of calves.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between length of dry - and lactation period on milk production of early lactation, as well as milk fat, lactose, protein and specific gravity. Methods: A total of 24 dry period Friesian Holstein cows at the 7th month of pregnancy were used. The dry period length were divided into 4 groups and consists of 3 periods of lactation. Parameters determined were milk production and quality in the first month of lactation. Data were tested using the Kruskal Wallis for the effect of dry period length and lactation period on milk production and quality. Wilcoxon analysis for continued trials of significant results. Results: The results showed that 40-79 days dry period length had no significant effect on milk production (P= 0.854), milk specific gravity (P= 0.922), milk fat (P= 0.339), milk protein (P= 0.392) and milk lactose (P= 0.635). Lactation period has a significant effect on milk production (P= 0.001), milk fat (P= 0.011), milk protein (P= 0.028), milk lactose (P= 0.004), but has no significant effect on milk density (P= 0.683). The highest milk production was produced in the VI period with milk production at 675.17 liters/ month (P= 0.001).Conclusions: The dry period of 40 to 79 days gives similar milk production and quality. The lactation period affects the amount and quality of milk at early lactation. Lactating cows reared in good management are able to produce milk with good quality and high production until the-VI of lactation period.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the increase in body dimensions of post-weaning female Holstein Friesian (HF) calves fed with lactation cow concentrate with different levels of calf starter substitution. The material was 4 post-weaning female HF calves aged 4-5 months, with an average weight of 101.38 ± 14.21 kg. The feed consisted of elephant grass, calf starter (CS), and lactation cow concentrate (LCC). The study used a Latin square design, with 4 concentrate treatments, i.e. P1 (75% CS and 25% LCC), P2 (50% CS and 50% LCC), P3 (25% CS and 75% LCC), P4 (100% LCC); and 4 replications in 4 periods (each period in 1 month). The concentrate was given 1% BW in the dry matter; elephant grass and drinking water were provided in a measurable ad libitum. The research parameters were the increase in body dimensions (heart girth (HG), body length (BL), and withers height (WH)). The treatments had no significant effect (p>0.05) on the increase in body dimensions, were P1 (HG = 2.31 cm/month, BL = 4.75 cm/month, WH = 1.95 cm/month), P2 (HG = 4.23 cm/month, BL = 4.38 cm/month, WH = 2.23 cm/month), P3 (HG = 4.60 cm/month, BL = 4.38 cm/month, WH = 2.35 cm/month), P4 (HG = 4,10 cm/month, BL = 3.48 cm/month, WH = 2.18 cm/month). It was concluded that with sufficient quality forage feed, giving 100% LCC to post-weaning female HF calves could result in an increase in body dimensions that was relatively the same as the substitution of CS (25-75%) in LCC as concentrate feed. Keywords: post-weaning female HF calves, body dimensions, calf starter, lactation cow concentrate
