Abstract

Aloe vera is a functional plant because can be used to treat various diseases, including skin diseases by Staphylococcus aureus infection, which causes inflammation of the skin, ulcers, acne, and so on. This research aimed to determine the inhibited effect of Aloe vera gel to the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and the most effective concentration for the resistance against both of bacteria tested. Antibacterial activity of Aloe vera gel was tested using well diffusion method on Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) at different concentrations 30; 40; 50; 60; 70%. Observation was conducted after incubation for 48 hours at room temperature. The results showed that Aloe vera gel inhibition the growth of S. aureus, it was indicated by the formation of inhibition zones. The most effective of Aloe vera gel inhibiting the growth of S. aureus at 70% with the size 12,81 mm. This shows that the higher the concentration of aloe vera gel is given, the greater the diameter of the inhibition zone.

Abstract

Waste disposal activity is an activity that is often done so that organic waste processing is needed. Organic waste has some difficulties in collection and disposal. Composting is a suitable process, because the raw material and the place and process do not depend on large tracts of land. Composting is a natural microbiological decomposition process from organic waste. One of the latest technologies in accelerating reactions is to use effective microorganisms (EM-4). Composting using EM-4 is a technology for activa ting microorganisms that already exist in a place, such as crop residues. This study aims to study the particle size and height of the pile of 5, 10, and 15 cm with the use of EM-4 to the value of the ratio C / N, P, K and pH. The results of the research that have been carried out show the process of making compost from market organic waste using an EM-4 activator. at the best process conditions obtained at particle size; garbage 3 cm, with a stack height of 10 cm with C / N, P, K and pH values respectively 12.80%, 2.99%, 4.12% and 7.5. so the results obtained are still included in the SNI standard 19-7030-2004

Abstract

Abstract. The effect of bentonite as filler on the performance of the composite membrane of PVDF-PMMA has been performed. This study was conducted to determine the performance PVDF-PMMA composite membranes and membrane applications PVDF-PMMA-Bentonite on oily wastes. Bentonite is obtained from North Aceh while PVDF membrane-PMMA by phase inversion method. This study uses an oily waste water model was made by mixing surfactant tween 80 with concentration of 2% with palm oil and gas oil. Membrane PVDF-PMMA-Bentonite is analyzing using cell ultrafiltration (flux test), FTIR and SEM-EDX. The results showed that the value of flux with the addition of bentonite is greater than without bentonite. Good flux values contained in the PVDF-PMMA-Bentonite (1:1:2) amounted to 32.143 L/m2.h.bar with permeability of 21.428 L/m2.h. FTIR characterization analysis results show that bentonite can add to pore at wave number 1520 cm -1 and 1660 cm-1 SEM and EDX results showed regular shape and uniform pore.
