Abstract

Pabrik Kelapa Sawit PT.

Abstract

The very limited natural resources, especially in small islands such as in Thousand Island, north Jakarta, may cause a lot of environmental problems if the inhabitant is not wise in managing and exploiting its environmental power resources. One of the chronic problems in Thousand Island is the lack of clean water availability. That specific problem becomes worse and worse because of increasing of the population. In dry season the condition always gets worst. Many acts have been done to deal with the problem, but in fact until now it can not be solved properly. After doing a direct survey to all densely populated islands in Thousand island, it is found that one good alternative can possibly be done to solve the problem. It is to develop and maximize the using of rain water reservoir (PAH). Based on the calculation using two approaches, the fact that rain water reservoir in Untung Jawaand Lancang Besar island are already enough. For Tidung Besar, Panggang and Pramuka island, they need to enlarge the roof as a receiver of rain-water falling down. Another alternatif that should be carried out is to rehabilitate all the damage rain-water reservoirs. Kelapa island needs not only roof enlarging and rehabilitation of the rain-water reservoirs, but also developing some new rain-water reservoirs. Harapan island still needs developing some new rain-water reservoirs and roof enlarging to get more rain water.

Abstract

As the capital city of West Kutai Regency, Sendawar still has a lot of problems relating to clean water supply for its residence. Those problems are caused by the very limited capability of local water authority (PDAM), the worse of environment management and water pollutions. Water pollutions occur because of improper mining activities (gold, silver and coal), domestic wastewater and sediment particles affected by increasing run off coefficient and erosion. Therefore the quality of surface water (River Mahakam) becomes worse and worse. PDAM Problems are not only being able to serve clean water need just for 19% residence in Sendawar, but also the low capability of human resources. There are three ways to solve those problems. Firstly, it is very important to apply a concept “One River One Management” in the Mahakam Catchment Area. Secondly, Application ofwastewater treatment technology must be carried out to reduce the pollutants produced from mining industries and municipal area. The third is by improving the human resource quality, especially in the field of environment and sustainable development.

Abstract

Because of too many environmental problems have already beencontinuing in Jakarta, the local government of Province DKI Jakarta isintensively doing huge environmental programs in order to cope with theproblems. One of the programs is the application of concept “Ecopark”in managing all of the cityparks or gardens in Jakarta. A lot ofcitygardens in Jakarta have not correctly been managed by the concept, especially gardens which are classified into medium size park. Theaim of this specific program is to optimize the environmental functionof all gardens in the field of water resource management, such asincreasing the efficiency in water resource exploitation, conservation ofthe water resource by rain harvesting and using of treated domesticalwastewater. Content of the assessment in this paper focused on threecitygardens, i.e Cisanggiri, Kelapa Cengkir Barat and Gandaria VGarden. The conclusion said that all the three gardens have an excellentpotential to be developed by the concept Ecopark.

Abstract

Environmental problems which happen in Jakarta metropolitan city, havealready come into a very critical condition. All surface water, such asrivers, swamps and small lakes, have extremely been continuingpolluted. Even ground water, not only the quality is getting worse, butalso the quantity is decreasing. Otherwise many swamps and smalllakes have been changing into a domestic settlement or commercialestate. One of few alternatives to cope with the problems is to manageall gardens in Jakarta by applying a new concept “Ecopark” which makesan optimizing the ecological function of a park. The concept is basedon the aim to make a friendly garden which is a part of green openspace. Through this application, especially for big gardens with thearea 5.000m2 - 10.000m2, the water resource potential will increase andits conservation will be continuously guaranteed. Garden CornelSimanjuntak dan Utama Raya are the two examples of big city gardenswhich have not been managed yet by the concept Ecopark. This activityexplained how the two gardens have to be properly managed by theconcept. The water use pattern for watering the plants, garden as thecatchment area and domestical wastewater recycling for watering arethe major ways to optimize the ecological function of gardens.

Abstract

In the last ten years water pollution problem in Jakarta has been becoming more serious. The highly increasing population causes the rising amount of domestic wastewater. Rivers in Jakarta have already been polluted by various wastewaters, such as from industries, domestic and many institutionals (offices, hospitals, markets/shop areas, etc.). It has been well known that the domestic wastewater contributes 70% in causing the river pollution, especially in Jakarta. Therefore it is very important to apply the proper domestic wastewater treatment system which is able to reduce thecontaminants until an environmentally required standard. Some types of domestic wastewater treatment have already been used, but the results do not fulfil the environmental required standard. At least a unit of domestic wastewater treatment should have a control tank as the beginning filter, anaerobic part, aerobic part and a sedimentation tank as the final part of the whole system. An advanced technology using a biofilter media has been proposed and based on the experiment, the result has proven that it can reduce BOD from more than 1,000 ppm to less than 30 ppm. The retention time is about 3 days. The conclusion shows that this new wastewatertreatment system is properly suitable alternative to be applied in domestic area, especially in a densely populated region. By applying the system we can also cope with the water pollution problem caused by domestic wastewater.

Abstract

In general, the main problem of domestic wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for office buildings in Jakarta is the incompatibility between the surface load of wastewater and the capacity of WWTP. At the beginning a capacity of WWTP is already predetermined and corresponding to the rate of wastewater generated. But because of the demands of the means for the benefit of various business, so that the capacities of the office building should be developed. This case occurred on PT. Usaha Gedung BDN. Four environmental parameters, namely TSS, Ammonia, Grease & Oil and COD, produced from the WWTP still exceeded the allowable quality standards. Therefore PT. Usaha Gedung BDN immediately needs WWTP capacity development plan which is adequate. Various types of technology have been widely available and ready to be used to overcome the problems of the WWTP. But on this occasion it is advisable to develop the existing WWTP facilities by adding a new WWTP unit. The first WWTP is functioned as the preliminary processing unit and the new WWTP will become an advanced processing unit. The use of a combination of anaerobic-aerobic biofilter will be relied upon to reduce pollutants that can qualify water quality standards in accordance with applicable regulations.keywords : problem identification, domestic wwtp, advanced processing
