Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of discovery learning on activities and cognitive learning outcomes of class VIII students of SMPN 1 Pugung Tanggamus in "Human Digestive System" materials. The study sample were 50 students of class VIII that were selected through cluster random sampling technique. The research instrument used a sheet of pretest-posttest and observation sheet of student activities. The design used was nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Data on activities were analyzed descriptively, while pretest-posttest and n-Gain values were analyzed by Independent Sample t-test. The results of the study showed that the average percentage activity was 73.4 including good criteria with a n-Gain average of 0.47 including the medium criteria. Thus the application of the discovery learning model has a significant effect on the activities and cognitive learning outcomes of students in "Human Digestive System" materials. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh discovery learning terhadap aktivitas dan hasil belajar kognitif peserta didik kelas VIII semester ganjil SMP Negeri 1 Pugung Tanggamus pada materi “Sistem Pencernaan Manusia”. Sampel penelitian adalah 50 peserta didik kelas VIII dipilih melalui teknik cluster random sampling. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan lembar pretes-postes dan lembar observasi aktivitas peserta didik. Desain yang digunakan yaitu nonequivalent pretes-postes control group design. Data aktivitas dianalisis secara deskriptif, sedangkan nilai pretes-postes dan n-Gain dianalisis dengan uji Independent Sample t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan persentase rata-rata aktivitas keseluruhan sebesar 73,4 termasuk kriteria baik dengan rata-rata n-Gain sebesar 0,47 termasuk kriteria sedang. Dengan demikian penerapan model discovery learning berpengaruh signifikan terhadap aktivitas dan hasil belajar kognitif peserta didik pada materi “Sistem Pencernaan Manusia”.Kata kunci: aktivitas, discovery learning, hasil belajar, sistem pencernaan manusia
