Abstract

Gypsum and cow manure potential as ameliorant to increase crop production under salt stress or saline condition. This research aimed to learn the effect of gypsum and cow manure on the uptake of Na, K and the yield of soybean genotypes under saline condition. This research conducted in green house Jatikerto Experimental Farm Faculty of Agriculture, Brawijaya University, from June to September 2014. The research was arranged in a split plot design. The main plot was soybean genotypes consists of two saline susceptible varieties (G1 = Wilis and G2 = Tanggamus) and two saline tolerant genotypes (G3 = genotype IAC, 100/Bur//Malabar and G4 = genotype Argopuro//IAC, 100); sub plot was ameliorant application consists of A0 = without ameliorant; A1 = cow manure (20 t/ha); and A2 = gypsum (5 t/ha). The results of the research showed that Leaf Chlorophyll Index in susceptible varieties and tolerant genotypes were increased with ameliorant application. Accumulation of proline and K/Na ratio in susceptible varieties higher than tolerant genotypes. Ameliorant application on tolerant genotypes increased grain yield higher than susceptible varieties

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the effect of bacterial isolates on red pepper at the saline condition. The research conducted in the station of Brawijaya University in Jatikerto village, Malang regency. The study used a randomized block design with bacteria isolated from the soil of saline-prone regions of Lamongan, in coastal East Java Indonesia. The treatments consisted of P0: saline soil without bacteria, P1: saline soil + bacteria SN 13, P2: saline + bacteria SN 22, P3: saline soil + bacteria SN 23, P4: saline soil + bacteria (SN 13 + SN 22), P5: saline soil + bacteria (SN 13 + SN 23), P6: saline soil + bacteria (SN 22 + SN 23), and P7: saline soil + bacterial (SN 13 + SN 22 + SN 23). Red chilli variety used was Gada MK F1. The results showed that the application of bacterial isolates increased leaf area, dry weight of roots and shoot. Uptake of N, P, K and Na also increased with bacterial isolate application. The number of fruit and fruit weight increased by 11.94% and 15.93%, respectively, compared with no bacteria. Proline content increased with the application of bacterial, while the capsaicin content decreased.

Abstract

APPLICATION OF GINGER PLANT CULTIVATION TECHNOLOGY IN THE YARD BASED ON HEALTH AGRICULTURE IN BOKOR VILLAGE, MALANG DISTRICT. House yard is one of the lands that have the potential to be developed. The yard can be used by growing high-value commodity crops. To get high yields and productivity, Farmers must choose the right and proper cultivation techniques. Besides, to get the results in the form of healthy food products, the cultivation process must be carried out by reducing the input of chemical compounds into the farm business. Therefore, community service activities were carried out in Bokor Village, Tumpang Subdistrict, Malang Regency. It was aimed to utilize the house yard by planting ginger based on healthy agriculture. The target group is farmers in the Subur Farmers Group. The stages of activities which were carried out were counseling on the use of house yards, training in ginger cultivation, providing assistance in planting materials and media, and making demonstration plots. The results of community service show that farmers want to try to use the yard by planting ginger in their yard. It also increased knowledge of farmers about ginger cultivation following Good Agricultural Practice so that the use of the yard with proper agriculture-based ginger cultivation can be developed.

Abstract

TRAINING ON VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION TECHNIQUES OF ORNAMENTAL PLANTS FOR PKK WOMEN IN BOKOR VILLAGE, TUMPANG, MALANG REGENCY. The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the world in the last 2 years has harmed all sectors of human life. The Indonesian government issued a policy to reduce the activity and mobility of people outside the house to reduce the rate of transmission of the virus. This policy has hurt the people's economy. Activities that are only in the house environment can increase the potential for stress in the community. One solution to overcome the problems mentioned above is to cultivate ornamental plants in the yard of the house. The trend of ornamental plant cultivation has an impact on increasing the number of requests and prices of ornamental plants and it is directly related to the strengthening of the bargaining position of ornamental plant farming. Activities carried out include observation, training, practice of ornamental plant propagation and assistance, and evaluation. The vegetative propagation techniques used were leaf cuttings, stem cuttings, seedling separation, and a demonstration of grafting activities, which were carried out on 9 of ornamental plant species, namely sansevieria, zamioculcas, little hogweed, aglaonema, iris, carwx morrowii, spider ivy, dracaena, and codiaeum. The results of the activity showed that partner’s knowledge and skills in the vegetative propagation of ornamental plants increased by 19%. The participants were able to reproduce ornamental plants vegetatively well. The percentage of success in growing plants from partner propagation is 71.4-100%.
