Abstract

There are two centres of silkworm breeding sites in Indonesia, Soppeng- South Sulawesi and Temanggung-Central Java.  Both, using the crossing of Japan and China strains, supplies almost all the needs of silkworm eggs in Indonesia. There were diffference performances between them in warm environment of low land, but in up land is still not know yet.  The purposes of this experiment were to know the performance of the silkworm originated from two different breeding sites. The experiment used one box silkworm egg (20000 eggs) each from Soppeng and Temanggung Breeding sites.  The variables observed were wet coccon weight (WCW) and  coccon shell weight (CSW). Data were analyzed by t- Test. Statistical analysis result showed that WCW and CSW of the silkkworm originated from Soppeng were better (P<0,005) than of Temanggung.  The causes may be the activity of silkgland was more productive, the adaptation ability to the environment was better included the efficiency of the using of feed nutrition and the growth or caused by polimorphism. The conclusion was that silkworm crossing of Japan and China strain originated from Soppeng had better performance than of Temanggung. It was needed following research on genetic site.   Keywords: Silkworm, performance, Soppeng and Temanggung

Abstract

This research was carried out to examine the ability of forest resources in producing total (amount) nest, hive comb lowering and beeswax of giant honey bee. The method used in this research was survey method. This research was conducted in July 2015 in Sialang Honey Community Cooperative (KOPMAS) located in Sungai Pagar village, Riau province. The result indicated that a). The research location was suitable for giant honey bee (Apis dorsata) development, b). The number of hive combs lowering from 15 trees was 411 combs with 67 times lowering, c). The average of hive comb weight in every lowering was around 40.6 kg. d). Beeswax production at every harvest time was 273.6 kg. The conclusions from this research were: 1). The number of giant honey bee hive combs from various trees and the weight of hive combs were not the same. 2). The amount of beeswax was equivalent to the production of bee hive comb. It is suggested that: 1). The utilization of giant honey bees wax should be designed so it can be used as a commodity to increase people’s incomes. 2). Certain policies are needed to develop giant honey bee activity around forest areas in order to produce more hive comb and beeswax.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to observe the effect of cages density on broiler chickens during the maintenance period. The materials used in research werebroilerLohmann strain 744 without gender differentiated and maintained for 35 days.In the course of this study, treatment was conducted with broiler cage size of 1 m2. At observations P1 barrier filled 28 chickens, at P2 barrier filled 30 chickens, at P3barrier filled 32 chickens, and at P4 barrier filled 34 chickens. The variables observed in this study is the feed intake consumption, body weight, and feed conversion in broilers. All the data were analyzed by using analysis of variance with Completely Randomized Design (CRD). If there is a significant difference between the treatments then followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. The results of this study indicate that the level of effect that the cage density were significantly different ( P < 0.05 ) on feed consumption and provide a highly significant effect ( P < 0.01 ) on body weight and feed conversion broilers. Based on the results of this study concluded that the density of cages that are too high can affect the appearance of the broiler production. Keywords: Broiler, cages density, body weight and feed conversion.
