Abstract

ABSTRAKSejak bahasa Inggris digunakan sebagai alat komunikasi dalam dunia bisnis internasional, maka perusahaan-perusahaan pun mewajibkan para karyawannya menguasai bahasa Inggris, terutama untuk staf marketing. Staf marketing dianggap memiliki peranan penting untuk mengembangkan perusahaan dan bertanggung jawab untuk mencari pelanggan dan mempromosikan produk perusahaan mereka. Oleh karena itu, PT Dharma Medipro yang memiliki pelanggan asing mewajibkan marketing staffnya meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mereka dengan memberikan kursus bahasa Inggris untuk mereka. Analisa kebutuhan perlu dilakukan sebelum merancang silabus kursus, dengan cara memberikan kuisioner dan wawancara kepada staf marketing dan manajer marketing  untuk mendapkatkan hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan deskripsi pekerjaan staf marketing. Setelah itu, hasil pengumpulan data analisis kebutuhan diolah untuk membuat silabus kursus mereka. Diyakini bahwa silabus yang dibuat berdasarkan pada kebutuhan siswa akan lebih efektif dan tujuan siswa untuk belajar bahasa Inggris dapat tercapai dengan baik. Hasil riset menunjukkan bahwa partisipan perlu meningkatkan semua kecakapan bahasa Inggis mereka terutama, kecakapan berbicara, dan menyimak. Oleh sebab itu, silabus yang diajukan menggabungkan unsur tata bahasa, fungsi, dan situasi yang berhubungan dengan staf marketing PT Dharma Medipro.Kata kunci: staf marketing, ESP, analisis kebutuhan, desain silabus ABSTRACTSince English is used as a means of communication in doing bussiness internationally, companies require their employees to master English, especially their marketing staff. The marketing staff has an important role to develop a company since they are responsible for finding customers and promoting company’s products. Therefore, PT Dharma Medipro whose customers are foreigners requires its marketing staff to improve their English by providing them an English course. Before designing the course, needs analysis was conducted through questionnaires that were distributed to the marketing staff and an interview with a marketing manager to obtain more insights about marketing staff’s job descriptions. Some of the marketing staff were also interviewed. Afterwards, the results of the needs analysis were interpreted to design a syllabus for them. It is believed that the syllabus based on learners’ needs will be more effective and learners’ goal to learn English can be achieved as well. The results indicate that the participants need to improve all skills, particularly speaking and listening. Hence, the proposed syllabus combines structure, functions and situations relevant for the marketing staff of PT Dharma Medipro.Key words: marketing staff, ESP, needs analysis, syllabus design

Abstract

Sometimes when someone who has made mistakes or says a statement which causes offence to others, she/he needs to maintain that kind of situation in response by apologies. The research aims at describing the strategies of apology in situational comedy. The data of this research were collected from dialogues that consist of apology in The Big Bang Theory. The data were analyzed qualitatively by examining the theory of apology strategy by Cohen and Olshtain (1986). Findings have shown that there are five strategies of apology utterances namely IFID, IFID + Explanation, IFID + Explanation + Requests, IFID + Responsibility + Requests and IFID + Explanation + IFID.

Abstract

Nowadays, the numbers of pre-schools (Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini) which is established by Rukun Tetangga in society and also established by foundation or personal are getting increased. In a such condition, it makes parents think to deliver their kids to study in a pre-school that provides English Curriculum. Therefore, school foundation always tries hard in order to be the best school which has English lesson. At first, biMBA (bimbingan minat baca anak) only provides calistung program (baca tulis hitung). Due to the request from parents and the reality that many pre-schools have provided English subject, Mitra (who manage) biMBA decided to open English class in biMBA. Unfortunately, many teachers at biMBA AIUEO do not have English background. It can be assumed that they might produce mistakes and errors in pronunciation and spelling. That is why, English course is necessary to improve their English skills mainly at pronunciation and spelling. Before designing the course, needs analysis should be conducted in order to know what teachers need during the course later. The steps will be begun through distributing questionnaires to the teachers and an interview with their Mitra to obtain more insights about teacher’s knowledge. Afterwards, the results of the needs analysis will be interpreted to design a syllabus for them. Abstract

Abad 21 dan era digitalisasi ditandai dengan lahirnya revolusi industri 4.0. Suatu kondisi dimana segala aspek kehidupan tidak terlepas dari pengaruh teknologi. Fakta tersebut tidak dapat dihindari namun harus dihadapi. Oleh karena itu, generasi yang hidup pada era ini harus memiliki keterampilan crticial thinking dan problem solving, communication, collaboration, dan creativity. Secara umum masih banyak generasi muda yang belum memahami empat soft skills tersebut dan belum menyadari pentingnya kecakapan yang dikenal dengan 4C skills itu. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memperkenalkan 4C skills tersebut dan betapa pentingnya skills tersebut untuk dimiliki oleh generasi era 4.0. Hasil Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini yaitu, (1) Siswa - siswi MAN 2 Kampar-Riau mengenal dan memahami kecakapan Criticial Thinking dan Problem Solving, Communication, Collaboration, dan Creativity, (2) siswa-siswi meningkatkan 4C skills mereka, (3) Siswa-siswi mampu menerapkan 4 keterampilan tersebut dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dimulai dari mereka mendapatkan pengetahuan dari PKM yang diberikan ini, (4). Tujuan lain dari PKM ini adalah menciptakan generasi muda yang sadar akan perubahan massive pada era digital ini dan memotivasi mereka untuk memiliki empat soft skill dari soft skills maupun hard skill lain yang harus dimiliki
