Abstract

Pathogenic bacterial ability to cause disease is called patoghenicity. Bacteria pathogenicity level stated as virulency. Bacterial virulency is determined by virulency agent, include certain structure of the cell and secrete produced into substrate. Capsul and slime are specific cell structure which act as virulency agent. Capsul and slime presence is able to prevent phagocytosis by host antibody. This study aimed to confirm presence of capsul and slime produced by pathogenic bacterial isolated from Clarias gariepinus. These pathogens are Alcaligenes sp., Bacillus sp., Micrococcus sp., Proteus sp., Pseudomonas sp., and Serratia sp. This is a descriptive study. Observation has been done to detect intense layer arround the cells by using negative staining methode.  Result of study has informed that Alcaligenes sp., Bacillus sp., Micrococcus sp., Proteus sp., Pseudomonas sp., dan Serratia sp., examined do not form capsul and slime.Key words: Capsul and slime, bacterial pathogen, Clarias gariepinus

Abstract

Long term period of using fertilizers is not beneficial for soil fertility due to decreasing soil organic matter content. Otherwise, the source of organic matter widely available as waste in the environment are not used optimally because the naturally decomposition quite long time. This problem can be overcome by utilizing various types of microbes, such as Trichoderma. This research conducted to determine the effect of organic fertilizer from the decomposition result of T. harzianum in enhancing growth of spinach plant. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were doses variation of decomposition of organic material; 0 g, 15 g, 30 g, 45 g, 60 g and 75 g. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and continued with Duncan New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT). The results showed that the application doses  of organic fertilizer from decomposition result influences height, number of leaves, leaf area, fresh weight and dry weight of spinach plants. Optimal dose for all growth is 45 grams/polybag.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of well water in residential areas around the landfill of trash (TPA), Balai Gadang Aia Dingin, Padang, viewed from bacteriological aspects. This study was conducted from March to April 2012 in the Laboratory of Microbiology Department of Biology, Science Faculty, Padang State University (UNP). Samples were taken using  Proposive sampling method with 10 wells that are encountered by the first well of the landfill to the distance between 0-100 meters. This study uses Most Probable Number (MPN) using a two-stage testing is Presumtive Test and Confirmative Test with a combination of 3:3:3. can be concluded that the quality of well water residential areas around the landfill 90% did not meet the standards set by the Ministry of Health (KEPMENKES) No. RI. 492/MenKes/PER/IV/2010. Key words : TPA Aia Dingin Padang, bacterial aspects, quality of well water
