Abstract

This study aimed to analyze students' prior knowledge of basic science subjects, especially in organ systems concepts in animals and humans. This research was conducted on the lecture of Basic Science toward 46 students in Science Education class. Data were collected using a diagnostic test consisting of 12 essay questions in the first meeting before the learning process was implemented. Furthermore, findings obtained in this study were analyzed using quantitative descriptive method. Findings of the study indicated that students’prior knowledge reached a low level, with 4.8 on the average score. From out of 46 students in this study, six students reached high prior knowledge score. In contrast, 40 students reached below a high level. It can be concluded that students do not have great prior knowledge. It should be stimulated continually in every initial learning process to comprehend the new concepts during learning activities easily.

Abstract

Science process skills have to be taught during learning process in order students are able to develop their skills in examining and solving science problems by leading such investigation process in which are beneficial for their future life. This study aims at analyzing students’ science process skills in the concepts of biodiversity through mobile leaning using virtual laboratory. The research included in a descriptive quantitative study. The mobile learning was conducted on November 2021 toward 24 students from 7th grade in a junior high school. Students learned the concepts of biodiversity through virtual laboratory in which the virtual laboratory has been already stated as valid and appropriate to be implemented in the learning process. In addition, the students’ science process skills were evaluated and measured using a test. Findings indicated that the students’ science process skills is 60.42±8.59. Therefore, it can be concluded that students’ science process skills reached moderate through mobile learning using virtual laboratory.

Abstract

One of exciting learning media is magazine in which students prefer to read this rather than books since magazine contains of various colorful images and appropriate information. Magazine can be developed by integrating with science learning approach in order that students can comprehend the concepts easier. This study aims at developing science magazine which is integrated with contextual teaching and learning approach according to the study findings in Talang Siring. The research included in a research and development study, using Borg and Gall model. The research was conducted on October to November 2022, which is located in Talang Siring Pamekasan, Indonesia by identifying ecosystem of beach and mangrove. Furthermore, the observation findings were arranged systematically in developing science magazine. Science magazine was evaluated by experts in concept and learning media. Findings indicated that the science magazine is valid with media validity score 93.5 and content validity score 91.6. Therefore, it is appropriate to implemented in science learning. Therefore, it can be concluded that science magazine is able to be used as learning media in science learning process
