Abstract

The lactic acid in blood and meat can accelerate rigor mortis and reduce the quality of the meat, because the meat will rot quickly, thereby reducing its selling power. Increased levels of lactic acid in the blood / meat can be caused by improper cutting processes. This study aims to see the levels of lactic acid in the blood as monitoring. The experimental animals were used by 30 healthy pigs slaughtered at the slaughterhouse in Sanggaran, Denpasar, Bali. Sampling was done purposively. The blood sample was taken as much as 3 ml from the jugular vein. Elisa method is used for determination of plasma lactic acid levels. The results showed the range of lactic acid levels was 2.10 - 2.95 mmol / dL with a mean of 2.47 mmol / dL, Sd. 0.22. These profiles are in normal condition so it is not noticed that the handling or management before and during cutting is good.

Abstract

Nowadays, availability of forage for cattle and other animal protein resources getting less and less due to land changing functions. This will lead to increase in land price, decrease in animal productivities the will end on sustainability of the animal husbandry business. In Bali, farmers applied a Three Strata Forage System to provide forage along dry and rainy seasons. This study purpose was to find out forage production from four types but similar size of land (1 ha) which applied in that system, that were Type A (rectangle: 200 m x 50 m), Type B (L Form: 4 x (50 x 50 m), Type C (rectangle: 125 m x 80 m) and Type D (squares: 100 m x 100 m). This simulation showed that the forage production of the land was 14.533,805 ton DM/year for type A and B; 14.301,434 ton DM/year for Type C : and 14.276,171 ton/DM/year for Type D. It can be concluded that the land in similar size but differ in shape or type produce different quantity of forages. And addition forage production and carrying capacity were estimated below of recommended the three strata forage system. Keywords: Forages, production, three strata forage system

Abstract

Animal products that are marketed are found to contain antibiotics (residues), so that if consumed by the humans for a long time will have a negative effect on human health, therefore regular monitoring is needed. Therefore it is very important to do the research on antibiotic residues in beef in several market areas in Bali. This study aims to determine residual tetracycline and penicillin antibiotics on beef bali cattle in several markets in Bali-Indonesia. Research using 60 samples of beef originated from 5 different markets in Bali. As many as 12 sempels (100 g for each sample) was taken from each market that were purchased from different merchants. Screening tests (bioassay test) used to determine antibiotic residues in meat. The results showed that only three samples were positive containing antibiotics there were tertrasiklin 2 samples (3.33%) and penicillin1sample(1.67%). It was concluded that there were still antibiotic residues in beef marketed in Bali.

Abstract

An experimental study was conducted in order to evaluate the   of erythrocyte on bali cattle atVeterinary Physiology Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University, Denpasar, duringone month.  Fifty blood samples were taken from bali cattle which slaughtered at Pesanggaran abattoir,Denpasar. The erythrocyte fragility was determined by using method Red Cell Fragility Procedure (2001).Results showed that the fragility (initial haemolysis) on red blood cell of bali cattle was observed, atranged between 0.45% - 0.55% NaCl , while for total  haemolysis range between  0.30 - 0,35 % NaCl.

Abstract

The Balinese believe that body size (the ratio of body length to snout length) in dogs is related to behavior, therefore body size is used to predict dog character. How to predict by measuring body size is a local wisdom that is still trusted for choosing a good dog. This belief has been running for a long time from their ancestors and has become a culture. Dog behavior according to local wisdom in Bali in general and in Sukawana Village, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency in particular, is categorized as: guna, jaya, forced, tek and kyul. Guna is a dog with an obedient character, useful and suitable as a hunting dog. Jaya is a dog with good character, attractive, energetic, tends to be hyperactive, this type of dog is also good for hunting. Force is a dog that is difficult to manage, requiring special handling, suitable for keeping the house. Tek is a dog with dirty behavior and difficult to train or manage and Kyul is a dog with a lazy character. A total of 66 Kintamani dogs were used as experimental animals. The research design used a cross-sectional study design. Body size observation data was then compared with clinical observations in the same dog. The results show that there is a relationship between behavior and body size (ratio of body length to snout length). It was concluded that body size (body length to snout length ratio) can be implemented to predict behavior.
