Abstract

ABSTRACT The examinating of giving Arbuskula Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) and phosphate fertilizer on the cultivation of  sorgum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.). The research aimed at gaining  dosage and phosphate fertilizer dosage and interactions of both the better for the growing and production of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench.). This research was conducted in UPT BBI Tanjung  Selamat, Sumatera Utara, height of 25 meters above sea level, started on April to July 2012. using a randomized block design with two factors. The first factor is the FMA dosage (0, 5, 10 g / plant). The second factor is the phosphate fertilizer (0, 1, 2, 3, g / plant). The parameters observed are the plant height, the number of leaves, the  flowering age, the harvest age, production per sample, production per plot, production per hectare and the degree of root infection. FMA has an obvious influencethe number of leaves ages 3 weeks after planting, the degree of root infection. Phosphate fertilizer has an obvious influence production per sample and production per hectare. Interaction between FMA and phosphate fertilizer has an obvious influence toward the height of plant age 2 and 3 weeks after planting, the number of leaves aged 2 weeks after planting. Keywords: arbuskula micorrhizal fungi , phosphate fertilizer, sorgum ABSTRAK Pengujian pemberian Fungi Mikoriza Arbuskula (FMA) dan pupuk fosfat pada budidaya tanamansorgum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.). Penelitian bertujuan untuk memperoleh dosis FMA dan pupuk fosfat serta interaksi dari keduanya yang lebih baik untuk pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman  sorgum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench.). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan UPT BBI desa Tanjung Selamat, Sumatera Utara dengan ketinggian + 25 meter diatas permukaan laut, dimulai pada bulan April  sampai bulan Juli 2012. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan 2 faktor perlakuan. Faktor pertama adalah dosis FMA ( 0, 5, 10 g/tan). Faktor kedua adalah pupuk Fosfat ( 0, 1, 2, 3, gr/tan). Peubah amatan yang diamati adalah tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, umur berbunga,  umur panen, produksi per sampel, produksi per plot, produksi perhektar dan derajat infeksi akar. FMA berpengaruh nyata terhadap jumlah daun 3 minggu setelah tanam, derajat infeksi akar. Pupuk fosfat berpengaruh nyata terhadap produksi persampel dan produksi perhektar. Interaksi antara FMA dan pupuk fosfat berpengaruh nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman umur 2 dan 3 minggu setelah tanam jumlah daun umur 2 minggu setelah tanam. Abstract

The Growth and Production of Upland Rice Varieties Situ Bagendit In Different Planting Distance and Giving Straw Compost.  The aimed of this research to study the growth and production of upland rice varieties Situ Bagendit in different spacing and giving of straw compost. The research was conducted in the field UPT BBI, Tanjung Selamat at an altitude ± 57 meters above sea level since March 2012 until July 2012 using Randomized Block Design (RBD) factorial with two factors, which are the spacing (20 x 20 cm, 20 x 25 cm , 20 x 30 cm) and straw compost (0, 25, 50, 75, 100 g / planting hole). The parameters measured were plant height, number of tillers, straw dry weight, root dry weight, number of panicle, percentage of empty grain, the amount of grain productive, productive grain weight, grain 1000 grain weight, and grain production per plot. The results showed that the treatment of different spacing significantly affect the number of tillers 4-8 weeks after planting and root dry weight. Straw compost treatment significantly affect the number of tillers 4 weeks after planting, the percentage of empty grain and grain production per plot. The interaction between the different spacing and giving straw compost significantly affect grain production per plot.   Keywords : upland rice varieties situ bagendit, distance different plant, compost straw

Abstract

Response of growth and yield of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) by giving of arbuskulamycorrhiza fungi (FMA) and vermicompost. Sorgum is one of the important food crops in theworld. Most of its yield is used as food, beverages, animal feed, and industrial needs. Increasingof degraded land area and land degradation rate that being higher, so that it needs to improvesoil condition and enchance plant growth by using of FMA andvermicompost. The aim of thisresearch was to obtain the right dosage of FMA and vermicompost for growth and yield of sorgum(Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench.). The research was conducted in the field UPT BBI in the TanjungSelamat village of Sunggal sub-district, Deli Serdang regency in North Sumatra, in May to August2012, using a randomized block design (RBD) factorial with two factors and three replications . Thefirst factor is the dosage of FMA (0, 5, 10 g / plant). The second factor is the dosage ofvermicompost (0, 30, 60, 90 g / plant). The results showed that FMA significantly affect on plantheight, number of leaves, and the degree of root infection. Vermicompost significantly affect onplant height and number of leaves. Interaction between the giving of FMA and vermicompostsignificantly affect on the degree of root infection.

Abstract

Growth and Yield Response of Three Sorghum Varieties (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) onDifferent Soil Tillage. The aim of this research was to compare growth and yield of three varieties ofsorghum on different soil tillage. It was conducted at Pasar 1, Tanjung Sari, Medan about 25 mabove sea level on June to October 2012 by using Split Plot Design with two factors. The first factorwas sorghum variety (Sangkur, Kawali, Numbu) and the second one were different soil tillage (notillage, once tillage, twice tillage). The research land had sandy loam soil texture. The results ofresearch showed that growth and yield of Sangkur, Kawali, and Numbu weren’t effected by soiltillage treatment but without tillage treatment showed the best result. Numbu had better result onshoot dry weight (59.29%), biomass weight (59.37%), root volume (64.83%), yield per sample(59.42%), and 1000 grains weight (56.83%) compared with other varieties. The interaction betweensorghum variety and different soil tillage had no significantly effect on growth and yield of sorghum.Key words : Sorghum, variety, soil tillage, growth, yield

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to know the effect of weeding time on the growth and production of some varietiesof sorghum in Pasar 1 street Tanjung Sari, Medan, with ± 25 meters altitude above the sea level inJuly – November 2012. The design use Factorial Separated Design Frame with 2 aspects. The firstaspect as a main frame is variety (Sangkur, Kawali, Numbu) and the second factor as subordinateframe is weeding time (clean weeding during research, weeded after 7 days planting, weeded after 14days planting, weeded after 21 days planting, weeded after 28 days planting, without weedingprocess). The parameters measured were plant height, number of leaves, flowering, canopy wetweight, production per sample, production per plot, the production per ha, the weight of 1000 seeds.From the research, varieties significantly affect on plant height (4-8 weeks after planting), number ofleaves (6 and 8 weeks after planting), flowering, canopy wet weight, production per sample,production per plot, production per hectare, weight 1000 seeds.Weeding time significantly affect onplant height (4-8 weeks after planting) the number of leaves (2-8 weeks after planting), the weight ofthe wet canopy, production per sample, production per plot, production per hectare, the weight of1000 seeds. Abstract

Response growth of soybean by cutting and giving empty fruit bunches of oil palm compost inshaded area.Using of shaded area for soybean plantation faced trouble such yield decreasing.For that purpose cutting and giving empty fruit bunches of oil palm (EFBOP) compost aimed toincrease growth of soybean in shaded area. This research was conducted at experimental field ofFakultas Pertanian USU in January-April 2013 using factorial randomized block design with twofactor, i.e. time of cutting (no cutting, cutting in V5, cutting in R1) and dose of EFBOP compost(0, 10, 20 and 30 ton per ha). Parameter observed were plant height, summarize of leaf area, stemdiameter, and shoot root ratio. The result showed that cutting significantly decreased plant heightbut increase all parameter observed. Dose of EFBOP compost significantly increased summarize ofleaf area and stem diameter. The interaction of two factor significantly increased summarize of leafarea. The best result were showed by cutting in V5 and giving 30 ton per ha EFBOP compost.Keywords : cutting, EFBOP compost, shaded area, soybean.

Abstract

Using of traditional medicine is growing rapidly at this time. Eleutherine americana Merr. is one ofkind plants that potentially can be traditional medicine. This research is proposed to find out theproper plant spacing and addition of rice straw compost of Eleutherine americana. This researchwas conducted at Jalan Pasar 1 Tanjung Sari, Medan with altitude ± 25 m above sea level from Mayto September 2013, using factorial randomized block design with two factors. The factors werevarious plant spacing (20x15, 15x10, 10x15 cm) and addition of rice straw compost (0; 0,5; 1kg/plot or 0, 10, 20 ton/ha) used three replications. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and continuedwith Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Parameters were observed sprouting age (day), heightof plant (cm), number of bulb per sample and fresh bulb weight per sample (gram). The resultsshowed that the plant spacing effected significantly on sproutig age, height of plant except 9-12weeks after planting, and the number of bulb per sample. Addition of rice straw compost notsignificantly on any parameters. The interaction of two factors effected significantly on height ofplant 4 and 5 weeks after planting.Keywords : Plant spacing, rice straw compost, Eleutherine americana Merr.

Abstract

The research was conducted at Screen house Experiment Berastagi at ± 1340 m asl from April untilJuly 2013 using split plot design with main plot, i.e. organic liquid fertilizer concentration (0, 2, 4,and 6 mL/L) and sub plot is tuber weight difference (≤ 3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 g). Parameter observedwere plant height, duration of green leaves, tuber weight per plant, weight tuber per plot, and tubergrade percentage.The result showed organic liquid fertilizer treatment significantly defend thechlorophyll leaves (duration of green leaves). Tuber weight difference treatment significantlyincrease plant height, main stem number, tuber number per plant, weight tuber per plot and tubergrade percentage on 10,1 – 20 g. The interaction of two factor significantly increase tuber gradepercentage on ≤ 5 g. Abstract

This research was conducted to study the varieties and various spacing  on the growth and yield ofthe sorghum under the immature plants 1 of oil palm land. The research was held at Paya Robahvillage, west Binjai district, north Sumatra province from June-September 2014, using split plotdesign with varieties (numbu and kawali) as main plot and spacing (75x15, 75x20, 75x25, 75x30cm) as sub plot. Parameter observed were plant height, stem diameter, flowering time, harvestingtime, weight of panicle seed per sample, weight of panicle seed per sub plot, yield per sample, yieldper sub plot, and 1000 grains weight. The result showed that varieties significantly effect on plantheight, stem diameter, weight of panicle seed per sample, weight of panicle seed per sub plot, yield per sub plot, and 1000 grains weight. Spacing was significantly effect on plant height, stemdiameter, flowering time, harvesting time, weight of panicle seed per sub plot, yield per sub plot.There  were interaction between variety and spacing for stem diameter.  Keywords: spacing, variety, sorghum
