Abstract

In this paper we report the effects of hydrothermal pretreatment on biogas enhancement production rates from water hyacinth mixed with buffalo dung. The focus of the experiment was on the time of hydrothermal pretreatment and the ratio of water hyacinth with buffalo dung. The hydrothermal pretreated substrates were characterized by TDS, BOD and pH. The hydrothermal pretreatment of 60 minutes with the ratio of water hyacinth to buffalo dung 1:2 showed the highest biogas production rate at 7889 ml/day. However, the highest methane composition was 52.82% which resulted on the hydrothermal treatment of 30 minutes with equal ratio of water hyacinth and buffalo dung. Thus, the optimum of methane yield obtained at hydrothermal pretreatment for 30 minutes with equal ratio of water hyacinth to buffalo dung is 2856 ml/day. The hydrothermal pretreatment increases the rate production of biogas 102% and the methane yield 51% relative to untreated water hyacinth. The ratio of water hyacinth and buffalo dung has a great impact on biogas production rate and compositions for hydrothermal pretreated substrates.

Abstract

The low logical thinking ability of students causes them to experience difficulties in making the reasoning of genetic concepts. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of scaffolding based virtual class to improve student’s logical thinking ability. Quasi experiment was used in this study. The population was the 4th semester students of Biology education of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at one of University at Serang, Indonesia, Academic Year 2016/2017, taking the Genetics course. Samples were taken randomly. The student’s logical thinking ability was measured by using the Test of Logical Thinking Ability (TOLT). The students pretest results of logical thinking ability in the experimental and control classes show the same average value of 2.64 included in the transition category, whereas post test results show different values. The experimental class indicates an average grade of 6.41 and a control class of 4.13, although the average difference between the two groups is significantly different, but both still show the same category of initial formal. Based on Mann-Whitney statistical test results, there is a difference of logical thinking ability between the two treatment classes. This can be interpreted that learning by using scaffolding based virtual class is effective in improving student’s logical thinking ability.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the increase students' communication skills using bilingual preview review with setting jigsaw learning in the class VII SMPN 1 Tangerang on the concept of environmental management. The method used in this research was quasi-experimental research with one group pretest posttestdesign. In this research, the sample was class VII I, there are 30 student participant by purposive sampling. The instruments used the observation paper and written communication ability test. The result of the research is t-test result get tcount= 11.41 and ttable at α = 0.05 is 1,69. tcount= 11,41 > ttable=1.69 which indicates that there is an increase students' communication skills using bilingual preview review with setting jigsaw learning in the class VII SMPN 1 Tangerang on the concept of environmental management. Keywords: Bilingual Preview Review Learning, Setting Jigsaw, Students’ Communication Ability Abstrak  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kecakapan komunikasi siswa menggunakan pembelajaran bilingual preview review dengan setting jigsawkelas VII SMPN 1 Tangerangpada konsep pengelolaan lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian one group pretest posttest. Sampel penelitian adalah kelas VII I berjumlah 30 siswa yang diambil secara purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa lembar observasi dan soal kecakapan komunikasi tulisan. Dari hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa hasil uji-t didapat thitung = 11,41 dan ttabel pada α = 0,05 adalah 1,69. thitung = 11,41 > ttabel = 1,69 yang menunjukan bahwa terdapat peningkatan kecakapan komunikasi siswa menggunakan pembelajaran bilingual preview review dengan setting jigsaw berpengaruh pada konsep pengelolaan lingkungan di SMPN 1 Tangerang. Kata kunci :  Pembelajaran Bilingual Preview Review, Setting Jigsaw, Kecakapan Komunikasi Siswa

Abstract

This research aimed to described the student logical thinking skills and learning outcomes, analyze the relationship of both, and explain the contribution of logical thinking skills to the students learning outcomes in genetics. The subjects were 71 students from the Department of Biology Education, second semester of academic year 2014 / 2015. The research was conducted using descriptive and correlational design. Measurement of the student logical thinking, have done using Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT), while learning outcomes measured by cognitive test questions. The correlation between the both variables was analyzed by product moment correlation. The results showed that 54% of the students have the beginning of the formal category of logical thinking skill with an average value of 4.03. The data also showed that 45% of the students have to the low category of learning outcomes with an average value of 54.86. The correlation, r = 0.609 and a significance value of 6.372 indicates that there is a high correlation between the logical thinking skill with the students learning outcomes in genetics. The analysis also showed that the student logical thinking accounted for 42.35% of the student learning outcomes.
