Abstract

Fish pond water is rich in micro and macro nutrients originated from feces and fish feed remains and it may be used to grow the microalgae such as Chlorella sp. A study to understand the growth of Chlorella sp in the pond water media and the amount of nutrient used was conducted from January – March 2016. The Chlorella sp. was grown indoor and outdoor. Parameters measured were Chlorella sp. biomass, nitrate and phosphate content. Samplings were conducted once/10 days. Results shown that Chlorella sp. grow well in the pond water. The biomass of indoor Chlorella sp. was higher than that of the outdoor (0.005 g/L and 0.003 g/L respectively). Nitrate and phosphate content was decreased during the experiment, the nitrate was reduced by 7.4 mg/L (indoor) and 9.4 mg/L (outdoor), while the phosphate was reduced by 0.09 mg/L (indoor) and 0.26 mg/L (outdoor). Abstract

 AbstractLubuk Siam lake is an oxbow lake that is located in the Siak Hulu sub-district, Kampar district. There were several human activities around the Lubuk Siam Lake such as agriculture and palm plantation. This study aims to understand zooplankton vertical distribution in that lake and it was conducted in February to March 2017. There were 3 stations, namely Station 1 (inlet area), Station 2 (fish cage area), and Station 3 (outlet area). In each station, there were 3 sampling points: at the surface, 2 secchi depth (126 cm) and 3 secchi depth (189 cm). Water samples were taken once/week for 3 weeks periode. Water quality parameters measured were: temperature, transparency, pH, nitrate, dissolved oxygen and free CO2 . Result shown that total abundance of zooplankton in station I: 945-1680 ind/L, Station II: 1365-2190 ind/L, and Station III: 1.230-2.085 ind/L. Water quality parameters measured were as follow : transparency 63 - 69 cm,  temperature  27.5 – 31.10C, pH 6.83 – 7.27, dissolved oxygen 4.0984 – 7.8399 mg/L, free CO2 5.296 – 15.981 mg/L, and nitrate 0.0694 – 0.1688 mg/L.Keywords: Lake, Lubuk Siam, Zooplankton

Abstract

Tajwid Lake is an oxbow lakes that located in the Langgam District, Pelalawan Regency,Riau Province. The potency of the Tajwid Lake is currently under reviewed by the governmentof Pelalawan as it will be developed into a tourist destination. Water quality in the lake Tajwidmight be changed as a result of human activities conducted around the lake. A study aims toprovide basic information on water quality and determine the trophic status of the lake wasconducted in February 2016. There are three stations (Station 1, Station 2 and Station 3) and thewater was sampled from three depths, surface, middle and the bottom of the lake. The samplingswere conducted 3 times, once / week. The water quality parameters measured were depth,transparency, temperature, pH, free CO2-, DO, Nitrate and Phosphate concentration. Resultsshown that the depth of the lake was ranged from 6.3 to 12.3 m, transparency 51.3- 69 cm,temperature 27.7-30.3 °C, pH 5, dissolved oxygen 2.3-8.3 mg / L. Free carbon dioxide ranged4.9-13.9 mg / L, nitrate 0.02- 0.11 mg / L, phosphate from 0.02 to 0.1 mg /L. The Nitrate andphosphate concentrations indicate that the condition of the Tajwid Lake is between oligotrophicto mesotrophic.Keywords : Tajwid Lake, Oxbow Lake, Water Quality, Trophic Status

Abstract

AbstractThere are several human activities around the Lubuk Siam Lake such as plantation and agriculture. Anthropogenic activities will influence nutrient in waters.  To understand the concentration of chlorophyll-a in the Lubuk Siam Lake, a research was conducted in February - March 2017. There were 3 stations namely Station 1 (inlet area), Station 2 (fish cage area), and Station 3 (outlet area). In each station, there   were 3 sampling points : at surface  (50cm), 2 secchi depth (126cm) and 3 secchi depth (189 cm). Sampling were taken  once/week for 3 weeks period. Water quality parameters measured were chlorophyll-a, temperature, transparency, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, nitrate, and phosphate.  Results shown that chlorophyll-a concentration was 12.76 – 44.86 µg/L, temperature 28.5 – 30.5°C, transparency 63 – 89 cm, pH 7.03 – 7.27, dissolved oxygen 4.09 – 7.83 mg/L, free carbon dioxide5.29 – 15.98 mg/L, nitrate 0.069 – 0.168 mg/L and phosphate 0.164 – 0.123 mg/L. Based on the concentration of chlorophyll-a, the Lubuk Siam Lake can be categorized as mesotrophic.Keywords: Chlorophyll-a, mesotrophic, water quality, Lubuk Siam Lake.

Abstract

 AbstractPeriphyton is a group of aquatic microorganism that grew in the surface of natural substrates such stone, wood, plants and aquatic animals. A research aims to understand the periphyton type and abundance in the Tapung River was conducted in April to May 2017. Sampling were conducted in 3 stations, they were in the upstream (St 1), midstream (St 2), downstream (St 3), 4 times, once/ week. Stone circular were removed (9 from St1, 7 from St2 and 5 from St3). The rest of the stone were taken in 14th, 21st and 28th day. Periphyton samples were scrapped from the stone’s surface, fixed with Lugol 1% and then were identified.  Results shown that there were 32 periphyton species present and they were  belonged to 3 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae (23 species), Chlorophyceae (5 species) and Cyanophyceae (4 species). The abundance of phytoperiphyton in the upstream, midstream and downstream of the Tapung River was significantly different, there were 7.689 cell/cm2 (upstream), 18671 cell/cm2 (midstream), and 34.446 cell/cm2 (downstream) respectively. Periphyton abundance in the Tapung River in general was around 7.689 – 34.446 cells /cm2. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that water in the Tapung River is categorized as oligotrophic. Keywords: Peripyhton, Stone, Trophic Status

Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to get the potential concentration of sago wastewater optimum with microalgae Chlorella sp to reduce pollutant wastewater sago.  Research was carried out by emplemented a Randomized Completely Design (RCD) with five treatments, namely: P0 (1000 ml sago wastewater without addition of microalgae), P1 (250 ml microalgae: 1000 ml sago wastewater), P2 (250 ml microalgae: 800 ml sago wastewater), P3 (250 ml microalgae: 600 ml sago wastewater), P4 (250 ml microalgae : 400 ml sago wastewater).  Results showed that the concentration of sago wastewater and treated with microalgae Chlorella sp significantly reduced the COD, BOD, and TSS.  The best treatment is P4 with COD 277,33 mg/L; BOD 125,33 mg/L; pH 7,04;  and TSS 83,66 mg/L.  Keywords : Chlorella sp, sago indusrial wastewater, COD, BOD, TSS, pH

Abstract

The aimed of the research was to got the best combination of EM4 and Chlorella sp in reduced pollutant sago liquid waste. This research was used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) non factorial with five treatments and three replications to obtain 15 experimentals unit. Formulation treatments were A0 (without addition EM4), A1(addition 5 ml EM4), A2 (additon 10 ml EM4), A3 (addition 15 ml EM4), A4 (addition 20 ml EM4). Data obtained was Analyzed Statistically Using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). If F calculated equal to or greater than F table then proceed to test Duncan’s MultipleNew  Range Test (DNMRT) at level 5%. The result showed that the addition of 20 ml EM4 effectively reduce levels of sago waste pollutant as much as 90,2% COD, 83% BOD,  and 81% TSS. Abstract

Abstract Nygaard Index can be used to determined trophic state of waters. Calculation of this index is based on the number of phytoplankton species such as Chlrococcales, Centric diatom, Myxophyceae, Euglenaphyceae and Desmidiaceae. To understand the trophic state of the PLTA Koto Panjang reservoir waters, a research has been conducted in March - April 2018. There were three sampling stations, namely station 1 (an area with 100-150 floating cages), station 2 (an area with 200-300 floating cages) and station 3 (an area with 946 floating cages). In each station there were three sampling points, in the surface, 3.5 m depth, and 7 m depth. Sampling were conducted 3 times, once/week. Water quality parameter measured were phytoplankton, transparency, temperature, pH, nitrate, phosphate, Dissolved Oxygen and free carbon dioxide. Results shown that there were 82 species of phytoplankton present, namely Myxophyceae (19 species), Chlorococcales (28 species), Centric Diatom (15 species), Euglenaphyceae (1 species) and Desmidiaceae (19 species). The water quality parameters were as follows: transparency 108-138 cm, temperature 31-320C, Dissolved Oxygen 1.8-6.0 mg/L, free carbondioxide 13.8-29.5 mg/L, nitrate 0.07-0.131 mg/L, phosphate 0.15-0.36 mg/L. Abstract

ABSTRACTPeriphyton is one of microorganisms that serve as primary producer in the aquatic environment. Research aims to determine the chlorophyll-ɑ concentration of periphyton attached in plastic substrate has been carried out in April-May 2018 in the Sail River. There were three sampling stations, namely S1 (in the upstream), S2 (in the middle) and S3 (in the downstream). Samplings were conducted once/week for a 3 weeks period. The periphyton samples were brushed from the plastic substrates (8 x 6) cm2. Water quality parameters measured were water current, temperature, transparency, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbon dioxide, nitrate, and phosphate. Results shown that chlorophyll-ɑ concentration of peripyhton in the plastic substrate in the S1 was 11.29 μg/cm², in S2 was 14.52 μg/cm²and in S3 there was 26.21 μg/cm². The water quality parameters were as follows: water current 0.07-0.69 m/s, transparency 6.03-7.67 cm, temperature 29-30 0C, dissolved oxygen 4.8-5.7 mg/L, free carbon dioxide 13.6-14.6 mg/L, nitrate 0.29-0.38 mg/L, phosphate 0.34-0.54 mg/L. The chlorophyll-ɑ concentration indicate that the trophic status of the Sail River was eutrophic. The water quality is good and it may be able to support the life of aquatic organisms. Keywords: Lotic, sessile organism, trophic state, water quality

Abstract

To understand the trophic state of the Pekak Lake, a research has been conducted in March-April 2018. There were 3 sampling stations, namely S1 (in the inlet, from the Kampar  River), S2 (in the middle of the lake) and S3 (in the end of the lake). In each station there were two sampling points, in the surface (0.2 m), and 1 Secchi depth (0.75 m). Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/week. Water quality parameters measured were phytoplankton, transparency, temperature, pH, nitrate, phosphate, dissolved oxygen and free carbon dioxide. Results shown that there are 63 species of phytoplankton present, namely Class Chlorophyceae (22 species), Class Zygnematophyceae (16 species), Bacillariophyceae (12 species), Class Euglenophyceae (4 species),  and Class Myxophyceae (3 species), and Class Cryptophyceae (1 species). The water quality parameters are as follows: transparency 68.5-76.8 cm, temperature 28-30 0C, pH 5, nitrate 0.05-0.14 mg/L, phosphate 0.06-0.11 mg/L, dissolved oxygen 5.13-6.40 mg/L, free carbon dioxide 8.23-15.48 mg/L. Nygaard Index value of the Pekak Lake was 1.8–2.37, and it can be categorized as mesotrophic to eutrophic.Keywords: Oxbow Lake, Phytoplankton, Mesotrophic, Water Quality.
