Abstract

Abstract

AbstractMystus nigriceps commonly inhabit the Tarai River that is polluted by tofu industrial liquid waste. Low water quality may affects fish growth and that is reflected in the growth ring pattern of the otolith. A research aims to understand the pattern of otolith growth rings in the M. nigriceps was conducted in April to May 2019. The fish was captured  using a cast net, and a scoop net. There were  90 fishes captured (31 males and 59 females). The otolith were removed and shaved. The dark growth ring pattern was investigated using a binocular microscope. Results shown that the standard length of the fish ranged from    75.11 to 150.44 mm and their body weight was 3.27 to 44.82 g. The otolith length was 1.375 to 2.625 mm and its width was ranged from 0.85 to 1.375 mm. Among the fish captured, 82 of them having 1-3 dark rings, indicate that the in certain period the growth of fish in the Tarai River is hampered. The distance between the nucleus and the first dark ring was 0.25 to 0.625 mm and there was no special pattern in the formation of the first dark ring. This fact indicate that the first dark rings are formed individually and it is not formed by periodic events in fish life. The water quality parameter value are as follows, temperature 27-280C; pH 6;  DO 3.2-3.5 mg/L; and CO2 23.09-24.98 mg/L) and it is able to support the life of fish. Keywords: dark ring, growth ring pattern, sagita, catfish, polluted river

Abstract

ABSTRACTPeat swamp waters in Sontang Village have experienced land-use changes, due to logging and forest burning activities, which are feared, will affect the type of Gastropods that live in the peat swamp habitat. This study aims to identify gastropods that live in peat swamp waters in Sontang Village. This research was conducted in April-May 2019, in the sampling areas 1, II and III. Sampling is done once a week for 1 month. The identification of Gastropod samples follows the identification of Rao (1989). The results of the study illustrate that the number of Gastropods caught was 102 individuals, from 2 species namely Belamya sp., As many as 32 individuals and as many as 70 individuals Pomacea canaliculata. Morphometric  Pomacea canaliculata (Snail Mas)  is  a  shell height  ranging  from  17-54.5  mm, shell  width of   about 8.81-49.2  mm,  aperture length of 4.45-29 mm, aperture width of 8-38.5 mm, and length insides range from 10.4 to 40 mm. While the Javanese Tutut type (Belamya sp.) Has morphometric: the height of the shell ranges from 7.41-28.82 mm,  the  width of the shell ranges from 8.56-21 mm, the aperture length of 3.94-10.25 mm, the aperture width of 4.75 -13.08 mm and length of the range of 6.73-18.31 mm. From the results of this study, Pomacea canaliculata is more commonly found and has a larger size than other types. Keywords: Gastropoda, Ampullariidae, Vivivaridae, Peat Swamp.

Abstract

Abstract Rasbora cephalotaenia is present in the waters around Stadion Utama Riau that  has relatively good water  quality, as well as in the Kandis River  that has polluted waters. The water condition of the rivers may affect the fish health status in general. A study aims to understand the histological structure of the gill of fish from the Kandis River and the waters around Stadion Utama Riau has been conductedfrom March-April 2018.Gill structure’s abnormality was identified using Histopathological Alteration Index (HAI). Histological structure of the gill of fish from both areas are different. The cell structure of the Kandis’s fish has more abnormalities compared to that of the fish from Stadion Utama Riau. Results shown that the types of abnormality present were hyperplasia, hypertrophy, athrophy, deformated lamella, congestion, odema and epithelium rupture. The HAIof theR. cephalotaenia from the waters around Stadion Utama Riau was 3.8, indicated that the gill was normal, while the HAIof the R. cephalotaeniafrom the Kandis River was 12,indicated that the gill was slightly damaged. Keywords: Histopathological Alteration Index, hyperplasia, hypertrophy, atrophy, ruptured epitelium.
