Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the obstacles in learning translation by the sixth semester students of English Department of FKIP UKI Toraja.  In this research, the researcher used qualitative method. The population of this research was the sixth semester students English Department of FKIP UKI Toraja. To collect the data, the researcher used interview at campus and. The researcher used accidental sampling and there were 10 students as respondents. Then the data were analyzed by using the theory of Miles and Huberman (2007). Based on the result above, the researcher found that there were many of obstacles faced by the students in learning translation, namely there are no intention and will, lack of confidence, make things easy, not knowing the benefits of learning translation, has no learning purpose, easy to forget something and lack of grammar.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out which is more dominant language used by the English lecturers in learning process at English Department of FKIP UKI Toraja interactional or transactional, and in what situation interactional and transactional language used by the English lecturers in learning process at English department of FKIP UKI Toraja. Descriptive qualitative and quantitative design is applied in this reserch to analyze the data. The data was analyzed was script from the result of recording video in learning process at English Department of FKIP UKI Toraja.The data was analized based on every utterance of lecturer in learning process. The writer used snow ball method in choosing sample of this research. The writer only took 5 lecturer as sample from the total population was 21 lecturers.From the data analysis, the writer found that transactional language more dominant used by the English lecturers in learning process. The result of this research shows that most of the lecturers used Transactional language in learning process then interactional. There are 1.194 utterances of transactional language used by the lecturers in learning process from the total number of utterances is 1.329. transactional language used in situation like greets student at begining of the class, explain topic, answer and giving question and when lecturer gives example for the students. After conducting this study, it is expected to give valuable contribution to the all lecturers in learning process and can be more variatif in using language. This research also is expected as additional knowledge and information for the all people specially to the students that interested in conducting similar study. The writer do hope as language user : reader, writer, and whoever that want to study more about interactional and transactional language can be more improved.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the students’ perspectives on Microteaching impact on their performance in PLP II program at the sixth semester students of English Education Study Program. This research used qualitative method. The informant of this research were students of English Education Study Program who had followed microteaching and PLP II Program. The writer used snowball sampling technique and stopped at 21 students to interview as informants, because the data were already saturared. The data of this research was collected by interview. The writer ued semi structure interview. The obtained data were analyzed in three major phase namely reduction, data display and conclussion. The resut of this research, is microteaching helped the students used expressions to opening and closing class, helped the students to manage time in learning process, boost their self-confidence, improved teaching skill, and as media to received upbuilding suggestions to expand their ability in teaching process. and also, microteaching as a media to apply the teaching comptence. Abstract

The problem statements are formulated as follows: to what extent is the student's ability to differentiate between the present continuous tense and the gerund of the fourth semester students at FKIP UKI Toraja? In this research, the researcher used the quantitative method. The participants of this research were fourth semester students at FKIP UKI Toraja. To collect the data, the researcher used a written test in the form of multiple choice. The researcher took 20 students to Campus 1. The research results finally extended the conclusion that the answer to the research question about the ability of the fourth semester students of FKIP UKI Toraja in differentiating present continuous tense and gerund, the researcher concludes that the ability of the fourth semester students of FKIP UKI Toraja in differentiating present continuous tense and gerund, falls into the failed category.shown by the mean score of 41.4.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know about the students’ perceptions of the use of the Internet for application purposes in submitting assignments in the fourth semester of the English Department at FKIP UKI. In this research, the writer used the qualitative method. The instrument of this research is a semistructured interview. The subjects of this research were the fourth-semester students of the English Department of FKIP UKI for the academic year 2017/2018. I used the accidental sampling technique with seven students as my subjects.The results show that internet applications make it easier for students to submit assignments more quickly and can send assignments wherever they are. Some of them say that internet applications as a medium are very helpful in the teaching and learning process. They have a positive perception because the use of internet applications facilitates and also saves time. There is no need to waste time; students are required to be more modern; there is no need to waste paper; and students do not fail science and technology. Some of them, when using internet applications, have problems, like when they do not have data, do not have Android, or when the network is damaged

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether or not local culture topics are preferred by the students in their prewriting activities and in writing the first draft of their essays. Bringing students closer to their own culture through the use of the Local Culture Supplementing Model or local culture as a teaching resource. Additionally, it is hoped that students would develop their essay-writing abilities or perhaps create articles on Toraja to highlight the region's distinctiveness. Students' writings and those of the younger generation can help Toraja culture advance in the writing world. Regarding the findings of this preliminary study, more than 75% of students indicated that they used the following strategies when writing essays: 1) Students needed topics on the local culture for prewriting; 2) Students require topics about local culture for drafting their essay.

Abstract

Abstrak. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini ialah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan Bahasa Ingris anak-anak dengan mengunakan metode pengunaan Real English yang diadopsi dari metode kontekstual learning yang mendekatkan Bahasa Inggris ke lingkungan pribadi anak-anak.. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepasa Masyarakat ini bermitra dengan Mitra dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini ialah anak-anak di 4 dusun di Lembang Rantedada, Mengkendek, Tana Toraja, Sulawesi Selatan. Tahap pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian ini terdiri atas 3 tahap yakni persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan Bahasa Inggris mengalami peningkatan, kepercayaan diri anak untuk meningkat dalam berbicara Bahasa Inggris dari yang dahulu merasa malu sekarang mereka bisa berdiri di depan teman-teman mereka untuk memperkenalkan diri dan bercerita tentang pengalaman mereka.   Kata Kunci:  anak, real english, kontekstual, rantedada
