Abstract

Ceramic tubes are widely used as process equipment in various industries. One of the materials used as raw material for ceramic tubes is alumina. Materials are processed by vacuum extruder to obtain products with constant cross section. The characteristics of the products depend on the amount and chemical composition of the crystals formed. The formation of mullite as the main mineral will increase thermal shock resistance because mullite has a low expansion coefficient. Composition B with the percentage of 50% alumina, 30% kaolin, 10% clay and 10% MgO provide the best temperature shock resistance. The measurement result for flexural strength of composition B is 2400.52 kg / cm2

Abstract

Antimicrobial glaze is used for sanitation needs in special environments such as hospitals or schools. Antimicrobial properties of TiO2 involve photocatalytic activity on  inorganic material. A hydrophilic surface, with contact angle value <65o, is resulted by those activity. In this study, polished tile coating was done using TiO2 material which had been prepared through a dissolving process in sulfuric acid followed by gel formation with addition of 2 types of alkali, ammonia and ammonium bicarbonate. The TiO2 gel formed was dispersed in aquadest and then coated on the surface of the tile by dip coating with various deposition time (3 hours, 6 hours and 53 hours). ANOVA test results represent that both main effect of alkali type and coating time, and interaction effect of these variable produce significant effects on contact angles. Addition of ammonium bicarbonate produce better hydrophilic surface on the tile than addition of ammonia. The longer coating time will increase hydrophilic characteristic of the surface.

Abstract

Dicalcium phosphate is one of the apatite materials used for precursors to synthesize other apatite materials such as tricalcium phosphate, tetracalcium phosphate, and hydroxyapatite. Apatite materials are widely used in the medical field and pharmaceutical industry. This study aims to prepare dicalcium phosphate from natural limestone as a precursor for apatite with an easy-to-apply method for industrial scale. Wet precipitation process was performed to prepare dicalcium phosphate from phosphoric acid and slaked lime or calcium hydroxide with reaction temperature control at around 60⁰C and at pH of 3-4, then drying is carried out at about 180⁰C. The product is characterized for its mineral content by XRD and EDX. Semi-quantitative calculation of the synthesized material contains more than 90% dicalcium phosphate andhydrous, the rest is other apatite minerals. It can be used as a precursor for apatite production.
