Abstract

This study used authentic material as the tool in essay writing class. Authentic material is made not for teaching need; it is the material that bring real language knowledge. It can be brought to the class as a learning tool. There two beneficial types of authentic materials; printed and audio authentic materials. This research used authentic printed materials to improve students' writing achievement. This is a Classroom Action Research in three cycles. This study aims to explain in detail the implementation of authentic printed material in writing class and how the authentic material can improve students ' writing achievement. The result is the research has been done in three cycles, because the first and second cycle could not reach the goal. The third cycle finally could reach the criteria of success. The conclusion of this research is authentic material can improve students' writing achievement and it is recommended to use authentic material in writing class and other language classes.

Abstract

Reading is a useful activity to get information which can expand students’ knowledge. This research is aims to investigate pre-service EFL teachers’ reading habit at STKIP PGRI Pasuruan. This survey research collected data from 130 pre-service EFL students who were randomly selected majoring in English and Education as the respondents. Questionnaires was distributed to collect the information regarding their reading habit,and were triangulated through observation. The statistical evidence showed that the student teachers’ interest and frequency of reading as well as their reading habit were poor. The main purpose of reading for the students, the majority of whom download the reading resources from the internet, was to gain knowledge. Most of the students preferred readings from websites and printed books.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was intended to develop supplementary reading material based on genre text for students in the tenth grade of Senior High School in order to help the learners in comprehending and interesting to study about Islamic story. This research was conducted by validation product by the experts, and try out. This research showed that the validation product by the experts showed 80% the product was appropriate, and the try out by the students were more than expected interval (l00%-76%). To find out whether the effective of the product, the writer gives the students pretest before implementing the product and posttest after implementing. The finding shows that the t-test calculation from the result of pre-test is 23% and post-test which on  is 80,7%. The result of this study concluded that the product was effective to use.

Abstract

Abstract: For Indonesian learner produce an organized writing in correctly grammar have always been a difficult problem in making written text. It happened since the first language learners have already become the learners’ habit and it influeces the process of using the foreign language. This study investigated common English language errors made by fourth semester students. 34 writing participanted to be the subject of this research and it were obtained from the students’writing task. Errors were involved by collecting samples of learner language, identifying the errors in the sample, describing these errors, classifying them according to their nature and causes, and evaluating their gravity (Keshavarz, 2012). The nine most common errors committed by the participants were, article, tenses, gerund, preposition, word order, agreement, modal, to-infinitivem and active passive. The study is important to educators and study material developers who should become aware of the kind of errors that their target learners make, so they can take into consideration while preparing the teaching material. For learners, error analysis is importantant  as it shows the areas of difficulty in their writing.

Abstract

This is a community service activity which was about English teaching and learning for young learners and its application in classes. The teachers of young learners needs to have knowledge about songs, games and media to teach English which is appropriate with learners’ and era’s need. Furthermore, this workshop is important to facilitate the teachers in giving the fun English materials. In this activitiy the teacher were trained to make the fun applicated media and the newest English nursery songs and games to be applied in their classes. It is hoped that this activity can facilitate the teachers in Kabupaten Pasuruan about the importantce of English learning for Young Learners, also teachers are hoped to be able to apply the fun and effective teaching learning process which is appropriate to the age and ability of the young learners and also appropriate with this era.Keywords: English teaching, teachers, workshop
