Abstract

YouTube is not only a platform for entertaining the viewers. Nowadays, language learners can use videos on YouTube as a tool to learn many things dealing with language. One of the benefits of watching YouTube videos is that learners can comprehend pragmatic equivalence. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the English dialogue among the speakers in the YouTube video entitled The Team Meeting and its Indonesian subtitle to reveal the pragmatic equivalence. The analyzed pragmatic element is conversational implicatures. Additionally, the translation strategies used in Indonesian subtitles are also analyzed. To do this, the qualitative methodology, particularly textual analysis is used. With textual analysis, some steps in analyzing the data are needed. First, the English dialogue among the speakers and its Indonesian subtitle are transcribed. Second, translation strategies and pragmatic equivalence are analyzed. Lastly, the data are presented in form of paragraphs. The results show that the translation strategies can assist the English dialogue and its Indonesian subtitle to reach pragmatic equivalence. Borrowing words from English in Indonesian and the same basic structures between both languages generally contribute to this equivalence.

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the student teachers’ anxiety related to the teaching practicum as well as the factors that contribute anxiety during teaching practicum, and exploring the student teachers’ strategies in overcoming their anxiety during teaching practicum. Qualitative research with a case study approach employed in this study. STKIP Invada Cirebon was chosen as the site and English student teachers were the participants of this study who did teaching practicum at SMK RISE Kota Cirebon, while the data were collected through interview and weekly journal. This study discover that students teachers’ anxiety related to the teaching is situation-specific anxiety, and the factors contribute anxiety can be grouped into six categories: being not familiar with the situations in the classroom, being observed by mentor or supervisor, incompetence in teaching, not match with expectations, less English proficiency, and classroom management. So that this study also identifies six categories of coping strategies employed by student teachers: adaptation, preparation, build a good relationship with the mentor and the students, self confidence, positive thinking, and keep calm and enjoy it. The findings of this study give insight for supervisor university, mentor, and student teachers about anxiety may arise during teaching practicum. Key words: Anxiety; Student Teachers’ Anxiety; Teaching Practicum; Cause of Anxiety; Strategies in Overcoming Anxiety.

Abstract

Continuing professional development (CPD) is imperative for teachers. English language teachers are not exceptions. In continuing their professional development, teachers actually have flexibility to choose either training or self-directed CPD approach. Therefore, it is assumed that depending on the gender and the career developmental stage that they are in, teachers may choose different CPD approach. Thus, this study was aimed to see the relationship between teachers’ career developmental stage, gender and their selection of CPD approaches. In order to achieve that, this study employed descriptive quantitative approach. The participant involved were 54 EFL teachers in Majalengka, West Java. The data were collected by using questionnaires. Chi-square was used in order to test the three hypotheses. The result revealed that the teachers mainly showed positive comments on CPD. Furthermore, it was found that there was a significant relationship between the teachers’ career developmental stages and CPD approaches. On the other hand, the findings signified that there was no relationship between gender of the teachers and their CPD approaches. As the recommendation it is expected that the teachers could maintain and regulate their commitment on continuing professional development. In addition, the government, especially the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture is also expected to provide wider variety of professional development approaches so as to bridge the diverse preferences for continuing professional development (CPD) of the teachers in Indonesian setting.

Abstract

Pelestarian hutan mangrove merupakan sebuah upaya untuk mewujudkan kelestarian alam. Dari segi ekowisata sendiri memberikan peluang yang sangat besar untuk mempromosikan pelestarian baik dari segi Sumber Daya Alam (SDA), peninggalan sejarah dan budaya menjadi sangat penting untuk mengembangkan mempromosikan keanekaragaman hayati indonesia di tingkat internasional, maupun lokal. Oleh karena itu pentingnya kegiatan secara langsung penanaman mangrove dapat mencegah abrasi dan meingkatkan sumber daya hayati di sekitar pesisir pantai khususnya di desa wisata Grogol. Sebagai wujud aksi untuk memperkenalkan wisata mangrove kepada masyarakat lokal yang awam akan tempat wisata Bahari Micil, kegiatan ini dilaksanakan oleh kelompok KKM 13 dan diikuti dengan Karang Taruna Desa Grogol dan komunitas mangrove setempat. Secara umum kegiatan diikuti secara antusias oleh peserta lainnya. Metode penelitian dengan metode kualitatif dan jenis penelitian studi kasus. Hasil pengabdian di harapkan memahami dan mengambil manfaat untuk meningkatkan sumber daya hayati dan mewujudkan ekowisata mangrove dapat dikenali oleh masyarakat lokal, Nasional bahkan manca negara. Kata Kunci: Mangrove, Ekowisata, Grogol, dan Aksi pelestarian.

Abstract

The advancements in ICT have made it possible for knowledge to be shared and acquired quickly. As a result of these developments, it is now imperative that ICT be included into educational settings across the globe. It stresses the need of teachers becoming proficient with ICT in the classroom. Nonetheless, some obstacles impede educators from implementing ICT in the classroom. The present study aims to investigate the obstacles encountered by EFL teachers while attempting to apply ICT in the classroom. This study employs qualitative research by using case study design. This study involved three EFL teachers from three different senior high schools in West Java. The data were collected through semi-structured interview and observation. The findings showed that the absence of ICT integration training, competency, equipment, and proper software and materials are the main challenges faced by English teachers when attempting to integrate ICT.Keywords: obstacles; ICT integration; EFL classroom

Abstract

Hutan mangrove merupakan sumber daya alam daerah pantai payau yang sangat potensial serta memiliki fungsi perlindungan dan pelestarian alam. Di Indonesia sendiri khususnya Kabupaten Cirebon terdapat hutan mangrove sekitar 70 hektare atau 5,4 km dari 54 km garis pantai. Adanya ekowisata mangrove di Desa Grogol, Kabupaten Cirebon yaitu Wisata Bahari Micil diharapkan menjadi salah satu usaha untuk melestarikan mangrove dan meningkatkan kepekaan masyarakat terhadap kondisi lingkungan sekitar. Metode pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan menganalisis situasi masyarakat desa Grogol, kemudian mengidentifikasi permasalahan yang timbul di masyarakat yang berkaitan dengan kegiatan konservasi mangrove dan melakukan pendekatan sosial. Pendekatan sosial pada kegiatan ini tidak hanya dilakukan tim pengusung program tetapi dilakukan kolaborasi dengan berbagai pihak seperti pemuda pemudi Karang Taruna Desa Grogol dan Pengelola mangrove. Dengan adanya kolaborasi dari berbagai pihak diharapkan kesadaran masyarakat semakin meningkat terhadap kelestarian hutan mangrove. Kata Kunci : Ekowisata, konservasi, mangrove.
