THE USE OF SPONTANEOUS GROUP DISCUSSION (SGD) TO TEACH WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT: A CASE OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP 1 Reni Lestari

Abstract

This study focuses on the use of Spontaneous Group Discussion (SGD) in writing descriptive text. The objectives of the study are (1) to find out students’ writing ability in descriptive text taught without using Spontaneous Group Discussion (SGD), (2) to find out students’ writing ability taught using Spontaneous Group Discussion, (3) to find out whether there is any significant difference of students’ writing ability in descriptive text of the eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kesesi taught without using Spontaneous Group Discussion and taught using Spontaneous Group Discussion. In this study, the researcher used true experimental design by post test control and experiment group design. The eighth grade students of SMP 1 Kesesi were the population of this study. By using cluster random sampling as a technique to take sample, the researcher chose students of VIII A and VIII B as samples. VIII A in which consisted of 36 students was chosen as experiment class. While VIII B in which consisted of 37 students was chosen as control class.Essay text was the instrument for collecting data. Post test was used by the researcher to find out whether there is any significant difference of students’ writing ability in descriptive text who given treatment trough Spontaneous Group Discussion and without using spontaneous Group Discussion as treatment.Based on data analyses, the researcher found that the mean score of experiment class was higher than the mean score of control class (79, 64 > 74, 22). In addition, the independent sample t-test of both classes showed that the result of t-test value was 2,301 and t-table on significance degree (5%) was 1, 688. It shows that t-test value was higher than t-table value (2,301 > 1, 688). By the result, the researcher concludes that there was significant difference of students’ writing ability in descriptive text taught without using Spontaneous Group Discussion and taught using Spontaneous Group Discussion.Based on the result of the study, SGD can be recommended for English teacher, the students and the readers that may be useful to be used as an effective technique for teaching learning process in descriptive text. Besides using Spontaneous Group Discussion as technique in teaching English, the teacher should be more creative so that can give variation teaching especially in writing descriptive text. For the students, they should do more practice in learning writing descriptive text so that they can master writing descriptive text.

Abstract

The Presidential Staff Office is formed through Presidential Regulation Number 26 of 2015concerning the Presidential Staff Office. Whereas in the presidential environment there are three institutionsthat function as supporting the performance of the President, namely,The Presidential Staff Office is , StateSecretariat and Secretariat Cabinet. Juridically, the authority of these institutions overlaps each otherbecause their functions are both as assistants to the President. So, it is necessary to review the legal politicsofThe Presidential Staff Office formation. Based on this understanding, the writing of this thesis formulatestwo problem formulations, namely: First, how is the legal politics of the establishment of the PresidentialStaff Office based on Presidential Regulation Number 26 of 2015 concerning the Office of the PresidentialStaff ?. Second, is there a clash of authority between the Presidential Staff Office both internally in thepresidential institution and in the external presidential institution ?.The research method in this study, first, the type of research is normative law and descriptiveanalysis. Second, data sources, supported by primary data sources, secondary data sources and tertiarydata sources. Third, the data collection technique used is the Literature Study. After the data collected isthen analyzed qualitatively, then draw conclusions with deductive thinking methods. From the results ofproblem research there are two main things that can be concluded, first, Political law in the formationofThe Presidential Staff Office is intended as an institution that guarantees the implementation ofgovernment programs as stated in nawacita. Secondly, judicially, The Presidential Staff Office authorityoverlaps with Setkab and Setneg as institutions supporting the President's performance. The suggestion ofthe author, first, is that it is necessary to control the institutions that have overlapping authority.Keywords: Presidential Institution - Office of Presidential Staff - Overlapping Authority

Abstract

Bervariasinya strategi dan metode pembelajaran khususnya dalam proses pembelajaran biologi yang digunakan guru masih sangat terbatas. Dalam proses belajar mengajar guru masih menggunakan metode ceramah yang diselingi dengan diskusi dan tanya jawab. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen. Pupolasi yang digunakan seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 4 Sungai Penuh yang terdiri dari 7 kelas. Sampel yang digunakan 2 kelas, yaitu kelas VIII A dan VIII B. Teknik pengambilan sampel secara random sampling. Intrumen penelitian berupa tes yang terlebih dahulu dilakukan uji validitas, reliabelitas, daya pembeda, dan indeks kesukaran. Teknik analisis data adalah uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, dan uji hipotesis. Hasil yang didapatkan dari penelitian ini adalah hasil belajar siswa yang tidak menggunakan strategi Information Search melalui metode resitasi, nilai tertinggi adalah 70 dan terendah 40. Nilai rata-rata hasil belajar di kelas kontrol 54,47, sedangkan hasil belajar kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan strategi Infomation Search melalui metode resitasi lebih baik daripada hasil belajar kelas kontrol, dimana nilai tertinggi adalah 90 dan nilai terendah 60. Nilai rata-rata hasil belajar kelas eksperimen adalah 75,78. Hasil perhitungan thitung adalah sebesar 6,83 nilai ini lebih besar daripada ttabel 2,01. Ini menunjukan adanya perbedaan hasil belajar antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Karena thitung  > ttabel maka H1 diterima
