Abstract

During the Covid 19 Pandemic, lectures were carried out totally via online learning. This study aims at describing the EFL students’ perception on the issue. This study applied a descriptive method and involved 102 students of the English Education Study Program- Riau Kepulauan University. The questionnaire was in 5 Likert scale and open questions which was modified from three components of Information Technology Innovation-instrument by Moore and Benbasat namely relative advantage, ease of use, and compatibility. It also was settled up to get information on challenge, obstacles, and students’ negative opinion toward the online-learning. The data was taken at the end of even semester (July) on academic year 2019/2020, and it was distributed by sending online survey to the year 1 to 4 of English Education Study Program of UNRIKA. In analyzing the data, it was computed to get the frequencies and percentages. The results are displayed in the form of chart and tables, and it is found that students’ perception can be considered as the important factor in applying the online learning particularly in the Covid 19 pandemic era.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out whether there is any correlation between cognitive style and student’s reading comprehension. The researcher limited the cognitive style in this study in Field Dependence and Field Independence. For example, students with Field dependence tend to have low reading comprehension because they difficult to construct their own perception and to find the information that not exactly written in the text.  The research design was correlational research. The population of this research was 271 students of Eleventh Grade of SMAN 3 Batam in the Academic Year 2015/2016. The population was selected simple random sampling technique. Embedded Figure Test (EFT) and Reading comprehension test were used as the instrument of this research. Then the researcher analyzed the correlation by using Spearman Ranked Correlation formula to correlate both cognitive style (variable X) and students reading comprehension (variable Y). The result showed that Zcountedis 5.157 and Ztableis 1.96. It means Zcountedis greater than Ztableand Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The researcher found out that there was a significant correlation between cognitive style and student’s Reading Comprehension at Eleventh Grade of SMAN 3 Batam in the Academic Year 2015/2016.Keywords : cognitive style, field dependence, field independence and reading comprehension.

Abstract

This objective of the study was to describe The Esteem Need . How does healthy self esteem manifest in Margaret Tate’s life viewed from term the psychology self esteem theory. The data analyzed by using the kind of qualitative research. This study tells about Margaret Tate is the professionally well-respected but personally loathed senior editor at a prestigious New York publishing house. Margaret learns that she is being deported back to Canada on expiration of her work visa. To avoid that deportation she and Andrew are engaged and about to get married. In private with Margaret, Andrew agrees to her proposal on the guarantee that he immediately gets promoted to editor and that his own manuscript. From the result of the research showed that Psychological needs have been part of the human needs for life, especially Self-Esteem Needs. It is a powerful of human need and It is life process; the feeling of being worthy, deserving; Experience that we  are appropriate to life and to the requirements of life. Keywords :psychology, self-esteem, life proccess, awarness

Abstract

Kegiatan layanan ini dalam bentuk sosialisasi dan pembelajaran dengan metode yang menyenangkan bagi anak-anak usia dini untuk meningkatkan pemahaman kosakata bahasa Inggris. Dengan menggunakan metode ini diharapkan memberikan pengetahuan tentang kebutuhan penguasaan kosakata, maka jika anak melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang yang lebih tinggi mereka tidak akan mengalami kesulitan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di RW 03 Desa Sungai binti, Kecamatan Sagulung. Metode yang digunakan adalah Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan lagu. Ini adalah salah satu metode / cara untuk mengajar bahasa Inggris menggunakan lagu sebagai medianya. Belajar dilakukan dengan metode belajar yang menyenangkan dan santai. Hasil pengajaran bahasa Inggris yang dilakukan memberikan beberapa kemajuan, pertama; anak-anak di RW 03, Desa Sei Binti, Kecamatan Sagulung, Batam, mulai mengenali metode menghafal 10 kata sehari dalam belajar bahasa Inggris, kedua; anak-anak tertarik untuk belajar bahasa Inggris dan berlomba menghafal kosa kata yang diuji, yang terakhir; anak-anak di RW 03, Desa Sei Binti, Kecamatan Sagulung, Batam, dapat mengucapkan kata-kata sederhana dalam bahasa Inggris dengan jelas.

Abstract

Penguatan profesionalisme guru menjadi sebuah keniscayaan yang harus diprioritaskan dalam penyelenggaraan pendidikan nasional. Mengingat profesionalisme guru merupakan aspek yang maha penting ditingkatkan untuk mencapai tujuan pendidikan yang berkualitas secara nasional dan menyeluruh, baik pada proses maupun hasilnya. Berdasarkan data yang dirilis oleh Kemendikbud tahun 2020 bahwa profesionalisme guru di Indonesia masih rendah. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai rata-rata hasil ujian kompetensi guru (UKG) sebesar 5.7 secara nasional. Hasil studi sebelumnya mengungkapkan bahwa masalah ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pelatihan peningkatan profesionalisme guru di Indonesia, khususnya di Kabupaten Padang Lawas yang tidak merata dan terukur. Untuk itu, salah satu upaya yang harus dilakukan untuk mengatasi masalah di atas adalah mengadakan pelatihan berbasis campuran (Blended) untuk pemerataan pelatihan guru di Indonesia, khususnya di Kabupaten Padang Lawas yang selanjutnya berdampak pada penguatan profesionalisme guru. Upaya ini dipilih karena pelatihan berbasis campuran (Blended) secara empiris sudah terbukti dapat memberikan pengaruh terhadap penguatan profesionalisme guru. Selain itu, pelatihan berbasis campuran (Blended) memiliki kelebihan dimana pelatihan ini dapat diikuti oleh guru tanpa meninggalkan tempat kerja. Pemerintah dapat menyelenggarakan pelatihan lebih efektif dan efesien karena tidak membutuhkan biaya yang besar seperti prosedur pelatihan-pelatihan sebelumnya.

Abstract

Lately, innovative models to teach English have been widely discussed. Communicative competence is definitely the goal when we teach speaking to foreign language learners. However, the goal was rarely achieved in speaking class. In this study, one of technique in Cooperative Learning, jigsaw technique, was proposed. It was predicted that jigsaw technique of teaching speaking and student’s speaking anxiety had effect toward student’s speaking competence. Jigsaw is a technique that can be used in speaking class as it assigns the students to work in team, where they tend to feel secured and comfortable to learn speaking. While speaking anxiety could be a language barrier distracting the students to succeed in speaking class. It is an internal factor from the student’s mind which prevents them from delivering communicative competence. Thus, the objectives of the study were to find out the effectiveness of jigsaw technique in teaching speaking as well as the influence of speaking anxiety, one of psychological factors in learning foreign language, towards the student’s speaking competence. The population of the research was the first semester students of English Department Universitas Riau Kepulauan. The research method was a quasi experiment and the data were taken by using a speaking test and questionnaires. Students’ speaking competences were assessed based on six categories namely fluency, task, comprehension, grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. While Saito’s speaking anxiety questionnaire was used to reveal student’s speaking anxiety. Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out and describe about students’ perception toward Memrise application as Media in Learning Vocabulary at seventh grade school SMP N 62 BATAM. The participants are students at VII grade of SMP N 62 BATAM. This research is prepared based on field data using Qualitative research. Method data collection in this research was conducted by using questionnaire and interview. As for the data analysis technique, the researcher used data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The finding is students’ perception toward Memrise application as Media in Learning Vocabulary get positive perception and can help improve vocabulary mastery for English lesson. Memrise application gives so many benefits for the students. Beside this application easily to operate, Memrise application also has interesting feature. The lesson material from Memrise application is easy to understand by students and through Memrise application, students have more spirit to learn vocabulary in English and their phone is not only for playing game but they can use it for study.
