Abstract

This study aims to analyze the flow of story sequences in the Demain novel karya Guillaume Musso , novel ini menyajikan cerita dengan permainan temporal yang khas.Cerita ini tidak tersusun secara kronologis dengan pergantian masa lampau dan beralih ke masa yang lebih lampau lagi dengan tingkat kerumitan tertentu. by Guillaume Musso.  This novel presents a story with a distinctive temporal play. It is not arranged chronologically with the alternation of the past and shifts to a longer past with a certain degree of complexity. To start the analysis  a general view of Russian formalist terms of sjuzet, fabula, and deotomatisation is presented.It is followed by the exposisiton of the events to identify the narrative structure of the story. To complete the act of reconstructing, the inventory of time expressions will be followed by the rearrangement of  events series or plots on the basis of chronology and causality mechanism.  The analysis shows that interplay of the past and the present events is actually   one narrative strategy to incite the curiosity of the readers in one hand and to delay the possible logic of sequential story. The results of this study shows that the structure of the text contained in the novel Demain terbagi menjadi dua bagian yaitu: tahapan I peristiwa pra pernikahan yang terjadi di tahun 1991,1992,1993,1994,1996,1998,1999.can  be divided into two main parts, namely: Th first part is the the group of  pre-marriage events that occurred in the years of respectively 1991,1992,1993,1994,1996,1998,1999. While  The second stage is the period of the marriage between Matthew and Kate in the year of.  2006, The accidental event of old computer purchase by Matthew, the main character leads to the totally new dimension open the way to retrospect the old events.

Abstract

The stereotype is a problem that we found when examining Michel Houllebecq's work entitled Soumission. As a form of prejudice against a particular ethnic / race or group, in this case, an Islamic group, this discourse is wrapped up in story elements. Therefore, to prove this thesis, this study is entitled "Islamic Stereotypes in Soumission by Michel Houllebecq". The aim is to describe the stereotypes of Islam that were built in the Soumission. The data collected was carried out using Albertine Minderop's characterization approach, namely: direct characterization (telling) and indirect characterization (showing), and also using the Luxembourg functional theory, connection events, and reference events by combining the concepts of Barthes sequences. The results showed that in the elements of the story, such as characters and characterizations as well as the flow of events showed Islamic stereotypes; that Islam is synonymous with terrorism, Islam legalizes polygamy, (women) Islam is fanatical about its religion, and Islam restricts women's rights.

Abstract

This research comes from a political caricature by Patrick Chappatté in French and discusses about the Brexit issue that occurred in Great Britain. A caricature is an art in the form of an illustration with the main object being a human face. Caricature aims to provide an information or to criticize something. The purpose of this study is to explain the description of the issue of Brexit and to analyze the message and the meaning to be conveyed using a semiotic approach. This reaserch use descriptive qualitatuve approach. The results of this study found that the description of the issue regarding Brexit illustrates the efforts made by the Prime Minister to fight for the votes of the majority of the people who want to Brexit, while the meaning conveyed through the caricature is how the struggle, process, and drama faced by Great Britain in order to leave the European Union.

Abstract

This research will explain the identity of Benjamin obtained based on the construction of people by looking at the background of his life and work. The theory used in this study is the intrinsic theory of literature, which includes figures and characterizations as well as social settings and identity. The research reveals two sides of the views of people around the character.This resulted in three things, namely (1) a description of Benjamin's family life that views him as a good, understanding and responsible person, (2) a description of Benjamin's work and relationships with his colleagues which makes him a scapegoat and also a suspect in a case bombing that occurred at his workplace, (3) Benjamin's identity was constructed based on the views of those around him.

Abstract

Warta Feminis is an online news media under the Yayasan Jurnal Perempuan (YJP) which has long been involved in feminist literacy. The vision of the Warta Feminis influences the use of language which is a representation of the ideology of the media. This research aims to determine the woman’s discourse in the text of Warta Feminis news. The research uses quantitative and qualitative methods. The data source is the news of Warta Feminis in 2015-2019. Statistical data was obtained from corpus linguistics. The research shows the frequency of words in the text of Warta Feminis news. The most frequently words are perempuan, anak, kekerasan, hak, and gender. Furthermore, the words were analyzed by using discourse analysis based on the list of concordance. The discourses that have been found in the news text of the Warta Feminis are violence against women, early marriage of girls, gender-based public policies, and the fulfillment of women's rights.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the type of satire language style used by users of the social network Twitter and the intentions behind the tweets and comments they address to presidential candidates in the context of the 2022 French presidential election. To answer the problems of this research, a qualitative descriptive method with a semantic approach was used. In this research, three types of satirical language styles were found: irony, cynicism, and sarcasm. The types of the ironic style used by Twitter users are contradiction and parable. Cynicism comes in three styles: comparison, rhetorical interrogative sentences, and contradictions. Profanity, accusations, criticisms, and insults are all examples of sarcastic language. The intentions found behind the insinuations towards the 12 presidential candidates relate to political opinions, poll results, leadership results, alliances, character, work programs, controversial cases, internal conflicts, and problems of racism.
