Abstract

http://dx.doi.org/10.17014/ijog.vol2no3.20075Studies of stratigraphy on Quaternary deposits in the southwest region of Lake Tondano, Tomohon Regency, South Sulawesi, revealed six facies of deposition environments. These facies consist of Tondano tuff, young volcanic eruption, lake, sand lake, tidal lake, and swamp deposits. Based on the correlation of the lateral and vertical variation of the Quaternary deposits, three unit of the depositional facies were recognized (UFP I-III). Each of the depositional facies unit is characterized by variation of the depositional environment changes which were controlled by tectonics, and was followed by the activity of Sonder main fault. The Sonder main fault activity, which controlled the depositional environment changes was recorded as an UFP. Probably, the character of this stratigraphy could be called as cyclo-tectonostratigraphy. The study was based on analyses of sedimentology and stratigraphy of six borehole information obtained along the E-NW traverse which is approximately parallel to the shorelines of the southwestern part of Lake Tondano. The penetration of the borehead varied from 1.20 to 8.7 m.

Abstract

The study of the environmental changes and character of the depositonal systems during Late Plistocene to Holocene on the Pekalongan coastalplain was based on analyses of the sedimentology and stratigraphy of fourteen boreholes. The penentration of the bore head varied from 7.70 to 15.80 m. Six depositional environments which occurred above the Damar Formation (QTd) are: linier clastic deposits (offshore, nearshore, and beach), fluvial deposits (river channel and floodplain), and swamp deposits. These deposits are separated by three depositional intervals (IP I-III). Based on the correlation of lateral and vertical stratigraphic successions, the environmental changes and character of the depostional systems are controled by sea level changes during the Late Pleistocene which were related by glacial and inter-glacial periods. Probably, after deposition of IP I, a local tectonichsve controled deplifting of the are. Keywords: Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, late Pleistocene - Holocene

Abstract

Based on the depositional environment, the Quaternary deposits in the study area can be divided into five groups, i.e : (a) fluvial-channel deposits, (b) floodplain deposits (c) lake deposits, (d) transition/ tidal deposits, and (e) swamp deposits. Furthermore, this Quaternary deposits represent 3 (three) depositional intervals, namely Depositional Interval I-III.The development of the Quaternary environment and changes of basin fill in the research area were influenced by tectonic and climatic changes. Changes in climatological conditions, from the humid-subhumid into dry, probably due to global climatic changes following the Milankovitch cycles. While the vertical and lateral changes of environment systems could be influenced by reactivation of Singkarak-Solok fault segment. Keywords: Quaternary, tectonic, climate, environment

Abstract

The study consist of sedimentology and stratigraphy analyses of fiveteen boreholes along the NW-SE and N-S, starting from near shorelines to the southern area. The depth of bore hole varies from 9.25 to 14.80 m. The Late Pliestocene-Holocene sediments in the studied area have been correlated, using ceoss section in 1:100 scales. The sediments consist of offshore, nearshore, beach, swamp, river channel, and floodplain deposits. The study is focused in the river channels. The changing vertically and laterally of river channel show the effects of climate and tectonic. During fluvial systems (IP II and IP III) depositional process, show climatic changes on Milankovitch cycles involving a stage episode from the middle of sub-humid (D2/ late warming) to the late sub-humid (B1/ early cooling). River channel shifting due to laterally base level change is influenced by tectonic. Keywords: River channel, climate, Late Pleistocene-Holocene

Abstract

A study on Quaternary deposits in the coastal-plain of Brebes and surrounding area, Central Java, revealed eight depositional environments. They are: tidal flat (Tf), shallow marine (Sm), floodbasin (Fb), floodplain (Fb), paleochannel (Cp), Resent channel (Cr), mangrove swamp (MgS), and beach sand (B). Based on the correlation of the lateral and vertical variation of the depositional environment, tectonic activities and sea level changes were recognized. During the depositional processes, the activity of tectonic by thrust were recorded as the main factor controling global sea level fluctuation of Holocene. The result of this research is an input for the Quaternary geology study and its implications on Holocene geology conditions which is based on the Quaternary geologic mapping. The study was based on the Quaternary geologic mapping with 1:50,000 scales including an analysis of sedimentology and stratigraphy of sixty boreholes information from the coastal plain of Brebes and surrounding areas. Keywords: Quaternary geologic mapping, Holocene, coastal plain

Abstract

This study was based on sedimentological analyses of seven boreholes located along the NW to SE traverse, approximately parallel to coastal line of Cirebon. The penetration of the bore head varies from 8 to 13 m. Holocene subsurface of alluvial deposits can be divided into seven environment systems, consisting of Gintung Formation and deposits of offshore, nearshore, beach sand, swamp, channel river, and floodplain. Based on stratigraphic aspects, the succession of that sediments can be divided into three sedimentary intervals (IP I-III). Each interval is typically for environment changes which is controlled by changes of sea level, such as high sea level (IP I), sea level falling (IP II), and low sea level (IP III). The Quaternary dynamics related to environment changes and changes of basin fill were influenced by universal of climatic circulation, regional tectonic, and local of sea level changes. Keywords: Aluvium deposits, sea level, tectonic, climate

Abstract

The Quaternary deposits in the Labuhan, Belawan, North Sumatera, have been studied. These deposits have been correlated, using sections on 1:100 scale.  From the correlation of thirteen boring logs, the Quaternary sediments can be divided into facies: (a) marine, (b) beach, (c) marsh, (d) floodbasin, and (e) fluvial channels. Furthermore, the Quaternary sediment consists of 4 (four) depositional cycles namely interval A, B, C, and D.The stratigraphic succession of Quaternary and basin fill in the studied area were influenced by global events. Changes in climatological conditions between sub-humid to optimum into subhumid to dry are the effect from Milankovitch cycles; and sea-level fluctuations from high sea-level into maximum to low sea-level were correlated to global changes of sea-level. Keywords: sedimentary environment, climate, sea-level, global

Abstract

This study was based on analyses of sedimentology and stratigraphy of nine sediment samples obtained from shallow boreholes. The boring was done of A - B traverse, southwest – northeast direction around Indragiri river, south of Rengat. The study was focus on river channel and lauctrin deposits under the swamp sediments and river terraces as the resent of penetration of the bore head varies from 3.80 to 9.95 m . Based on the correlation of lateral and vertical variation, the stratigraphic succession can be grouped into two depositional interval i.e. depositional interval I & II. (IP.I & IP II). Vertical changes on the lithologic composition can be related to changes on humidity conditions. It is shown from the changes in the character of the facies between lower and upper lacustrine. Changes in basin centre between lower and upper lacustrine environment, as the result of basement movement caused by tectonic activity, impected to up and down movement of the basin floor. Keywords : Quaternary sediments, lacustrine, climate, tectonic

Abstract

The studied area is located in the low-land area of the northern part of Tondano Lake which is dominated by Quaternary lake and fluvial deposits. Based on the sub-surface data, the lithofacies distribution of the deposit can be divided into: (a) pyroclastic deposit, (b) repetition between channel sand lake and lake or swamp deposits and, (c) floodbasin and swamp deposits. The maximum development of the environmental deposition of Tondano Lake is indicated by formation of 1 up to 3 facies, while facies 4 which is situated above them was influenced by decrease of the lake environment. The increasing and decreasing of the lake environment in this area can not be traced continously. It shows a combination of spesific facies arrangement, such as: the lower part, indicated by volcanic activities which were deposited by water; the middle part, indicated by lake invironment; and the upper part, indicated by the end of a volcanic activity which was then followed by the development of a swamp environment and flood basin. Keywords: facies, eruption, climate, tectonics
