Abstract

This research was motivated by concerns about the problem of modern slavery. The author will interpret Exodus 20:8-11 on the Sabbath to respond to the issue of slavery. The method of interpretation that will be used is deconstruction and social criticism. The use of the social criticism method sees the text as a practice of discourse that is ideologically charged and has specific interests. The text is not neutral but rather is advocating. In the text itself, two social groups conflict with each other. The interpretation of the existing Sabbath is interpreted normatively, legalistically, ritualistically, sociologically, theologically and eschatologically. The results of reinterpreting the Sabbath using a deconstructive method show that the Sabbath has been abolished because every day is interpreted as a forced workday. Forced labour is driven by fear and worry. The Sabbath was forgotten for political and economic motives. The Sabbath was abolished because time was money, so people were traded and enslaved for the sake of making money. The reinterpretation of the Sabbath text with the method of social criticism finds the theological meaning of the Sabbath. The God of the Sabbath is described as the forerunner of the liberation of slavery throughout the ages. God’s Sabbath-keeping people today have a liberation mission to help people who are victims of modern slavery.

Abstract

Abstract. By not explicitly prohibiting slavery has created the impression that the Bible does accept slavery. This paper intended to examine the biblical texts that raise the idea of slavery. Its main focus was texts in the Old Testament. These texts would be examined by considering the ancient Middle Eastern cultural setting. This paper would also bring together the pro and anti-slavery texts in a tensional relationship. This way distinguishes this writing from other writings which tend to take only one position, either pro or anti-slavery. The idea of seeing texts in a tensional relationship implies a postmodern thinking. The benefit of this paper is to build awareness that slavery is a practice that needs to be opposed but at the same time difficult to abolish. Therefore, a struggle against slavery still needs to be launched even though slavery has been formally and legally abolished.

The purpose of this paper is that every parent pays more attention to what is the real cause of the teenager's behavior. Abstract

This article was written to discover the theological contributions of the book of Jonah and its application in the lives of believers. The book of Jonah is one of the books in the Old Testament (OT) that is no less important than the other books. Although it only contains 48 verses divided into four chapters, this book also significantly contributes to building Christian theology. The method used is a qualitative method with a literature study approach. This research concludes that there are at least three theological contributions from the Book of Jonah, namely first, God's Call to Believers, where believers are called to have a compassionate heart for those who have not been saved and who are called to proclaim the news of Salvation to them so that believers need to have a heart that is obedient and quick to fulfill God's call; Second, the concept of Salvation, where the Salvation that God offers is not only for the Israelites but also for other nations, so believers need to preach the Gospel. Third, God's Sovereignty, where the God we worship is the God who reigns over the universe and everything in it; he is also the God who cares for and accompanies His people. Therefore believers need to surrender and fully believe in God's destiny. God is carrying out His call.
