Abstract

The research about modification of mordenite characteristics has been performed by H2C2O4 and/or NaOH treatments and catalytic activity tests in hydrotreating of pyrolyzed a-cellulose. Commercial mordenite (HSZ-604OA) as mordenite control (HM) immersed in 0.05, 0.5, and 1.0 M H2C2O4 at 70 °C for three hours resulting in HM-0.05, HM-0.5, and HM-1. The four mordenites were immersed in 0.1 M NaOH for 15 minutes resulting in BHM, BHM-0.05, BHM-0.5, and BHM-1. The catalysts obtained were analyzed by XRD, SAA, ICP, and acidity test. The catalytic activity of the mordenites was evaluated in hydrotreating of pyrolyzed a-cellulose using stainless steel reactor with an H2 gas flow rate of 20 mL.min−1 at 450 °C for two hours with a catalyst: feed weight ratio of 1:60. The liquid products obtained from the hydrotreating were analyzed using GC-MS. The research results showed that the H2C2O4 and/or NaOH treatment towards the mordenites increased Si/Al ratio and decreased crystallinity. The acidity of mordenites decreased along with the increase of the Si/Al ratio. The average pore diameter of BHM, BHM-0.05, BHM-0.5, and BHM-1 mordenites were 2.898; 3.005; 3.792; 7.429 nm, respectively. The BHM-0.5 mordenite showed the highest catalytic activity in generating liquid product (88.88 wt%) and selectivity toward propanol (4.87 wt%). The BHM-1 mordenite showed catalytic activity in generating liquid product (41.16 wt%) and selectivity toward ethanol (1.21 wt%) and 2-heptyne (4.36 wt%). Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of Ni/mesoporous silica (Ni/MS) catalysts from Lapindo mud with various metal loading for the hydrocracking of waste cooking oil into biofuel has been conducted. The MS was synthesized by the hydrothermal method using CTAB as a template. The nickel-metal of 4, 6, and 8 wt% was loaded into the MS using salt precursors of Ni(NO3)2.6H2O via wet impregnation, produced the Ni(4)/MS, Ni(6)/MS, and Ni(8)/MS catalysts, respectively. The materials produced were then characterized by X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), and Surface Area Analyzer (SAA), and Absorption Atomic Spectrophotometry (AAS). The catalytic activity test was carried out for hydrocracking of waste cooking oil and the resulted liquid product was analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that the specific surface area of Ni(4)/MS, Ni(6)/MS, and Ni(8)/MS catalysts are 63.08, 91.45, and 120.45 m2/g, respectively. The liquid products of the hydrocracking using Ni(4)/MS, Ni(6)/MS, and Ni(8)/MS catalysts were 80.57, 74.63, and 75.77 wt%, where the total biofuel produced was 55.46, 50.93, and 54.05 wt%, respectively. Based on these results, Ni(4)/MS material was successfully used as the most potent catalyst in the hydrocracking of waste cooking oil into the biofuel. Abstract

Synthesis of mesoporous carbon from merbau sawdust with H2O2 as activator using reflux method followed by carbonization at 800 °C (RC800) had been carried out. This research is aiming to produce effective pathway to synthesize effective nickel-mesoporous carbon catalyst. The nickel metal was impregnated on the mesoporous carbon by wet impregnation using the salt precursor of Ni(NO3)2∙6H2O. The results showed that carbon RC800 and C800 had a specific surface area of 135.18 and 182.48 m2/g. Specific surface area of Ni/RC800 and Ni/C800 catalyst were 41.31 and 7.15 m2/g, respectively. The metal content in Ni/RC800 and Ni/C800 catalyst were 0.83 and 0.92 wt%, respectively. Ni/RC800 catalyst had the highest acidity (7.64 mmol/g) compared to Ni/C800 catalyst (6.99 mmol/g), RC800 (97.43 mmol/g), and C800 (6.17 mmol/g). The Ni/RC800 catalyst has the highest activity with the liquid product conversion of 66.01 wt%. Its selectivity towards gasoline fraction, diesel fraction, alcohol, and organic was 8.06, 1.17, 2.61, and 54.13%, respectively. Copyright © 2022 by Authors, Published by BCREC Group. Abstract

A series of heterogeneous catalysts based on cobalt supported on SBA-15 were prepared through wet impregnation and co-impregnation assisted by ethylene glycol (EG) methods. The cobalt oxide catalysts generated after the drying and calcination process were denoted as CoO/SBA-15w and CoO/SBA-15c for a wet- and co-impregnation method, respectively. Subsequent to the reduction process, the reduced cobalt catalysts were obtained and denoted as Co/SBA-15w and Co/SBA-15c. The TEM images revealed the catalysts prepared through these methods show very clear distinctions that the catalyst prepared by wet impregnation shows large aggregates of cobalt particles on the external surface of SBA-15 due to their inability to enter the channels. The catalysts were evaluated on the hydrocracking of pyrolyzed -cellulose as a biomass model. The results showed that the reduced cobalt-based catalysts are having higher conversion value and selectivity towards the 2-furancarboxaldehyde reached ca. 20%. Abstract

In this work, Lapindo mud (LM) was used as catalyst support. This is because the Lapindo mud has a high SiO2 content of 45.33 %. This research aims to produce a hydrocracking catalyst based on Lapindo mud through impregnation of Ni and Pt metals as well as grafting amine groups. Ni and Pt metals impregnation using wet impregnation method followed by amine group grafting. Abstract

Nickel supported Parangtritis beach sand (PP) catalyst for hydrocracking of palm and malapari oil into biofuel has been conducted. The impregnation process of Nickel (Ni) metal on PP was carried out through the dry impregnation method (blending) using a precursor salt of NiCl2.6H2O with variations of Ni metal as much as 10 and 15 wt% of PP which produced Ni(A) and Ni(B) catalysts. Each catalyst was tested for activity and selectivity through the hydrocracking process of oil into biofuel using a semi-batch system reactor at a temperature of 450 oC, a hydrogen gas flow rate of 20 mL/minute for 2 hours, and a weight ratio of 1:200 catalyst:feed (w/w). The results showed that the Ni(A)/PP catalyst had the highest activity and selectivity with the yield of liquid products and the total biofuel fraction (biohydrocarbons) obtained from hydrocracking of palm oil of 68.50 and 49.87 wt%, respectively. Ni(A)/PP catalyst has a total acidity, surface area, and crystal size of 0.051 mmol/g, 4.44 m2/g, 25.86 nm, respectively. The reusability test of the Ni(A)/PP catalyst in the hydrocracking process of palm oil into biofuel after the third use resulted in a liquid product and the total biofuel fraction obtained was 64.20 and 41.46 wt%, respectively. The yield of liquid product and the total fraction of biofuel (biohydrocarbon) in hydrocracking malapari oil were 66.10, 47.83 wt%, respectively.
