Abstract

Industrial development is one of the economic components that influences national economic growth. Increased industrial growth is also aimed at realizing national goals for the welfare of society. In the industrial process, the machine generates heat as a side effect of the machine's work, so it requires a cooling system for its continued work. The facilities used by the industry to overcome these problems are by using cooling towers. One of the factors that influence the cooling tower performance is the filler. Asbestos is a material that has a thin and corrugated sheet shape. This material is made of the mineral silica and fine fibers. Asbestos material has many benefits and roles in industrial activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of asbestos filler on cooling tower performance induced draft counter flow on the effect of variations in initial water temperature and air velocity, and the effect of effectiveness, water-air ratio, cooling capacity, evaporation loss and L / G value. This research on the performance of cooling towers with asbestos fillers obtained a higher value of effectiveness and cooling capacity than cooling towers without using fillers. This is evidenced by the highest value of effectiveness obtained by cooling towers using fillers of 83.26%, while the highest value for cooling towers without using fillers is 80.24%. The highest value of cooling capacity in a cooling tower using filler material is 10.34 kJ / s, while the highest value for a cooling tower without using a filler is 9.70 kJ / s. Abstract

A wind turbine is a device that converts wind energy into mechanical energy to produce electric power. Wind turbines have a simple working principle, which is to convert wind energy into mechanical energy in the windmill, then the rotation of the turbine0makes the rotor on the generator rotate and generate electricity. There are 2 types of wind turbines: vertical axis wind turbine and horizontal axis wind turbine. This study aims to determine the performance of the medium-scale VAWT hybrid savonius darrieus NACA 4712 wind turbine. The hybrid wind turbine is a combination of savonius and darrieus wind turbines to increase efficiency by utilizing the drag of the savonius turbine and lift force from the darrieus wind turbine. This study used an experimental method. The fan is used to vary the wind speed. The wind speed used ranges from 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.1,7.2,7.3 m/s. This savonius darrieus hybrid wind turbine can produce efficiency of 0.037 at wind speed of 5 m/s with an initial torque of 0.088 N/m. The maximum rotation in this hybrid turbine study 118 Rpm was obtained at a wind speed of 7.3 m/s.

Abstract

Sampah masih menjadi permasalahan yang belum teratasi dengan maksimal hingga saat ini. Permasalahan sampah di Indonesia tidak hanya terjadi di kawasan pemukiman dan industri namun juga menjadi permasalahan serius di kawasan pesisir. Banyaknya sampah dikawasan pesisir disebabkan oleh pembuangan sampah secara sembarangan di kawasan pantai serta aliran sungai dan aktivitas pariwisata. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui kesadaran masyarakat dalam mengelola sampah. Penelitian dilakukan secara sengaja di pantai Payangan Desa Sumberejo Kecamatan Ambulu dan pantai Puger Desa Puger Kulon Kecamatan Puger Kabupaten Jember Jawa Timur. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Data dianalisis dengan metode Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukan jenis sampah yang banyak ditemui adalah sampah organik dan anorganik. Sumber sampah berasal dari rumah tangga, sungai, pedagang ikan, nelayan serta home industri pembuatan kapal nelayan dari kayu. Cara membuang sampah yang dilakukan masyarakat adalah dengan dibuang ke pekarangan, sungai, laut. Kesadaran dan pemahaman masyarakat dalam mengelola sampah masih rendah. Belum ada sosialisasi mengenai pengelolaan sampah yang baik dan benar.
