Abstract

Wind energy is a renewable energy source that can be converted into electrical energy. The utilization of wind energy can replace oil dwindling energy supplies in the world. One wind turbine that can transform wind energy into electric energy is Savonius turbine, which Savonius turbine can work at relatively low wind speeds. In this study Savonius turbine uses a double curved deflector in pairs upstream of the turbine and the turbine as well. Deflector mobilized with a double curved hinge system so that it can be in the know its performance in the best condition. The curvature of the deflector is 1/4 of the circumference of the rotor. This study was conducted at a speed of between 4 m/s to 6 m/s. The results showed that the condition of the double curved deflector orientation α2 = 135o angle β2 = 45° of the direction of flow produces the best or highest CP, as well as working torque at low rpm.

Abstract

This study aims to design, manufacture and test a coconut grated machine with a capacity of 10 kg/hour. The research method used in this research is an empirical method, namely field observations (observations) then from literature sources and then applied in one dimensional modeling with planning that is realized in one real form in the form of designing a coconut grating machine. This design is a coconut grater machine using 750 watts of electricity with pulley and belt transmission elements, with a grater system using a grater knife using a screw system. The results of the grater work obtained an average grater process of 36.72 Kg/hour. The advantages and disadvantages of designing the grated coconut machine that has been produced are very low noise levels and negligible vibration, because this machine is equipped with a pulley as a successor to the power of the electric motor. The increase in motor temperature for 2 hours to 4 hours of operation, there is no increase in motor temperature. The rotation of the grated head is quite good, it's just that the grated coconut with the shell is not clean, so the grating operation must be adjusted to the size of the coconut. The machine is easy to carry and safe to use.

Abstract

There are many small brick-burning industries in rural areas, and especially near big cities and are industrial centers of bricks burning wood or husks. The price of this fuel continues to increase because the supply of firewood is dwindling and in the use of husks there is competition from other consumers, namely chicken farmers. Coal fuel has a good opportunity to be used in the brick industry, especially in Bengkulu. The coal combustion technique that has been introduced is a combination of coal – 50% wood. In this research, the combustion technique with coal and "biocoal" is developed, namely briquettes and a mixture of coal and sawdust. For this reason, a prototype furnace has been made, namely a traditional stove with a modified combustion chamber with a capacity of 4500 bricks. Using brick raw materials from Bengkulu, whose main minerals are coaline cristobalite and albite, burning with coal and “biocoal” briquettes has been successfully carried out. which is better achieved energy efficiency of 70% as a cheaper alternative, it has been tried burning with a mixture of coal and wood chips with a ratio of 7: 3 produces an energy efficiency of about 58% with the same raw brick material burning efficiency with a combination of coal-wood in Traditional stoves average 36% with a ratio of coal and wood of 1:8.
