Abstract

The research is based on the reality depicted in the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye that the human values of the millennial generation are currently starting to fade. Human value is a basic trait that humans have to love each other and not be concerned with self-interest. This study aims to provide input to the community, especially millennial generations, that human values must be maintained to obtain a harmonious life. Humanitarian problems arise when a sense of concern and tolerance for others suffers a setback due to the non-functioning of the institution optimally. The method used is descriptive qualitative showing the phenomena of human values in society by collecting written data in the forms of words, phrases and sentences containing human values in the novel. The data collection is done by means of note-taking method, referring to the topics of discussion. The results show that human values in the forms of love, sacrifice and tolerance are depicted in the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye. The results of this study are expected to raise awareness among the millennial of the importance of human values for the continuity of peaceful and harmonious life to improve lifestyle quality on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

The objectives of this paper are to identify the conflicts revolving around the main characters in The Notebook, to describe and to explain how the main characters are able to deal with the conflicts in The Notebook. Conflict as a concept can explain many aspects of social life such as social disagreement, conflict of interests and fight between individuals, groups or organization. Conflict in literature refers to the different drives of the characters or forces involved. Conflict may be internal or external. This paper uses descriptive qualitative and library research methods as the topic deals with social matter, that is conflict, in a novel. Social matter is in the realm of descriptive qualitative approach so this method deserves to be applied.  The results show that there are four kinds of conflicts: man against man, man against society, man against nature, and man against self and the main cause of the conflicts is love and with love the conflicts are resolved by the main characters.

Abstract

The objectives of this thesis is, firstly, to find out the kinds of code-mixing in the restaurant with daily conversation between crew and customer, and fellow crew. Secondly, to find out the factors make code mixing occurs. Thirdly, To find out the reason why do the customers use code mixing. This research was conducted from September 14th until September 15th 2020 in Hokben Sun Plaza. In this research, the researcher using research qualitative. Researcher explain the kinds of code mixing divided into 6 classifications by choosing theory from suwito (1985). The researcher collected the data by using unstructured interview and simple documentation like taking a voice recording. The result of this research showed the kinds of code mixing found in the words of data conversation between crew and customer and fellow crew, and find some factors make code mixing occurs in Hokben Restaurant.Keywords: Sosiolingustics, Code Mixing, Hokben Restaurant.

Abstract

Dalam dunia pendidikan, berpidato di depan umum (public speaking) atau presentasi bukanlah hal baru. Di dalam kehidupan manusia kemampuan berpidato merupakan suatu hal yang penting. Banyak orang yang berhasil dalam hidupnya mempunyai kemampuan berbicara di depan orang banyak, di samping kemampuan lain. Pada saat berpidato sudah dapat dipastikan akan terjadi hubungan antara pembicara dengan pendengar. Oleh sebab itu, orang yang berpidato (pembicara) harus mempersiapkan diri dengan sebaik-baiknya agar tercapai apa yang diharapkan. Kemampuan berpidato atau berbicara di depan public harus mempunyai pengetahuan yang cukup, keberanian, dan ketebalan mental yang kuat dengan memahami teknik dan pedoman berpidato serta melatih diri dengan serius. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, siswa siswi dilatih keberaniannya untuk dapat menampilkan pidatonya di depan forum. Hasil capaian yang diharapkan dalam pengabdian ini, siswa-siswi kelas X SMA Nurul Hasanah Medan termotivasi kemauannya untuk dapat berbicara dan menyampaikan pidatonya di depan kelas maupun di depan umum dalam situasi formal maupun informal, dengan nilai rasa yang baik, santun, dengan menggunakan bahasa Indonesia yang baik dan benar secara terampil.
