Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk memperkaya dan memperluas pengalaman guru-guru dalam penggunaan aplikasi digital pembelajaran daring untuk menudukung kegiatan pembelajaran selama masa pandemi. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah pelatihan penggunaan beberapa aplikasi digital seperti mentimeter, socrative, dan quizzes. Hasil dari kegiatan pelatihan ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa guru-guru yang diberikan pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi digital dapat mengeksplorasi penggunaan aplikasi tersebut dengan baik dan membantu mereka dalam mempersiapkan materi pembelajaran yang lebih menarik perhatian siswa.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the strategies employed by the students in listening class. Listening is one skill that highly complicated, started from receiving, understanding, remembering, evaluating, and responding to what they hear. It becomes a problem to the students especially in an EFL classroom. Sometimes the students are discouraged to this situation. To overcome the problems, one of the solutions is employing the strategies of listening. The research subject were the students of first semester who take Listening for General Communication subject. Data were collected by questionnaire It consisted of 24 questions for metacognitive strategy, cognitive strategy, and socio-affective strategy. It adapted from Listening Comprehension Strategy Inventory (LCSI). The results showed that metacognitive strategy (50,4%) was the most strategy frequently employed by the students. The second strategy was cognitive strategies (33,0%), and the last was socio-affective strategies (16,6%).

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know whether there is a significant effect of Text Twist Game toward students' English vocabulary mastery at MAS Muhammadiyah 13 Sei Rampah academic year 2020-2021. The research methodology applied was quasi experimental design. In this research, the population was the tenth grade students of MAS Muhammadiyah 13 Sei Rampah. The sample consisted of two classes, namely experimental class consisting of 18 students and control class consisting of 18 students. In experimental class, Text Twist Game was used to teach vocabulary while in control class was applied translation technique. The treatments were held in 3 meetings for each class. In collecting the data, the instrument used was in the form of multiple choice questions which had been tried out before the treatment. The instrument was given in pre-test and post-test. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS to compute independent sample t-test. Based on the data analysis computed by using SPSS, it was obtained that Sig.= 0.000 and α = 0.05. It means Ha was accepted because Sig.< α = 0.000< 0.05. Therefore, it was concluded that there was a significant effect of Text Twist Game towards students’ vocabulary mastery of English of the tenth grade students at MAS Muhammadiyah 13 Sei Rampah.

Abstract

Presidential debate is one of an interesting examples to be analyzed in terms of politeness strategies. This research analyzed the politeness strategies used by the presidential candidates of Indonesia in a presidential debate program during the election period in 2019. This research employed qualitative descriptive. The data were in the form of spoken utterances which were collected from the debate participants. The sources of the data in this research were the videos and transcripts of the second and the fourth presidential debates taken from youtube and google. The data were analyzed using data condensation, data displayed, drawing and verifying conclusion. The results of the research showed that the presidential candidates used several types of politeness strategies and realizations of politeness. There were four types of politeness strategies found in the debates; they were Bald-On Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness, and Off Record. In realizations of politeness strategies, there were 30 sub-strategies realized in the second debate and 33 sub-strategies realized in the fourth debate. Positive Politeness was found as the dominant strategy since the candidates wanted to omit any gaps, give good sense, choose words selectively and convey their campaign.

Abstract

This study dealt with critical discourse analysis of SBY’s international speech text. The objective of this study was to describe social cognition, ideology, and social context used by SBY in his international speech. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative design. The data of this study were taken from SBY’s international speech text. The texts were analyzed by using Van Dijk’s discourse analysis concept by classifiying the elements of the text into Van Dijk’s table. Based on the study, it was found that the social cognition used was the event social cognition, ideology used was the ideology of Pancasila democracy, and the social context used was the diction in accordance with the social status of the invited guests. It could be concluded that the diction chosen by SBY was adjusted to the social status of the guests who were present in the 19th ASEAN Summit and also represented interests of people.

Abstract

This study discussed the speech function in SMS broadcast. The objective of the study was to find out the types of speech function and the dominant type used in SMS broadcast. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative design. The sources of the data were taken randomly from the SMS broadcast in TELKOMSEL collected from December 2018 until May 2019 and there were 25 SMS broadcast. The data were classified based on the types of speech function. Based on the findings, it was found that they were 58 speech function occurred such as Command (19 or 32.76%), Statement (25 or 43.10%), Question (2 or 3.45%), and Offer (12 or 20.69%). The most dominant type of speech function was Statement. This result showed that the most dominant type occurred type was due to the fact that the provider (TELKOMSEL) should deal with the customers’ demand to provide them goods or services or the customers should follow the program provided by the service provider.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to investigate if BIGBOX application significantly affected students’ reading comprehension at SMK Swasta Yaspenmas Sei Lepan. The research design used was experimental research. The population of this research was the whole students of the tenth grade which were distributed into two parallel classes, namely X-1 and X-2. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. It was obtained that X1 was selected as the experimental group and X-2 was selected as the control group. Each class consisted of 30 students, thus the total sample was 60 students. The experimental group was taught reading comprehension using BIGBOX application while the control group was taught in traditional way. The research instrument used was a reading test with multiple choices. The data obtained were analyzed by using statistical analysis of t-test formula. It was found out that the t-observed value was 2.184 and the t-table value was 2.002 at level of significance P= 0.05 and df=58. Based on the value obtained, the hypothesis testing proved that the alternative hypothesis was accepted and null hypothesis was rejected. The research concluded that BIGBOX application effected students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study intends to examine the scientific article about the phenomenon of hate speech in pandemic era in Indonesia from forensic linguistics view. By using a meta-analysis technique on Google Schoolar, an official website intended as a collection of scientific articles in Indonesia. A total of 150 articles were accessed from Google Scholar. To assure the review's focus, a selection process for inclusion and exclusion criteria was carried out before it began. There are 20 eligible articles to be reviewed. Findings showed that most of the researchers used social media as the source of data, most of the researchers used the theory of speech act to analyse the data.
