Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship of family support as a coping mechanism for adolescents with dysmenorrhea. The research design used was observational with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample was young women at State Senior High Schools in Kendari City, totaling 81 respondents. Sampling technique with total sampling. The data collection instruments used were family support questionnaires and adolescent behavior questionnaires. Data were analyzed by Chi-square statistical test. The results showed that 42 respondents from the good family support category were 36 (62.06%) with positive behavior and 6 (26.08%) with negative behavior, 22 respondents from the sufficient support category as many as 14 (24.13%) with positive behavior and 8 (34.78%) with negative behavior, 17 respondents from the less support category as many as 8 (13.79%) with positive behavior and 9 (39.13%) with negative behavior. Based on the results of statistical tests using chi-square showed that the value of p <0.05. Statistically, there is a relationship between family support and young women's behavior in overcoming dysmenorrhea.
