Abstract

Swamp buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) is a germ plasm specific of Pampangan and endemic in South Sumatera with low productivity and limited distribution. The aims of this study was to obtain information regarding biophysical conditions in the central areas of swamp buffalo in South Sumatera. The method used is purposive sampling method. Data collected in the form of quantitative and qualitative. Primary data were obtained through direct observation, interviews breeders selected as respondents while secondary data obtained from various related. The data obtained are presented descriptively and data tabulation. Productivity of swamp buffalo Pampangan can be increased by managing and maintaining habitat conditions although traditional maintenance. The results of observations of the biophysical condition of swamp buffalo (B. bubalis) Pampangan showed that habitat of swamp buffalo Pampangan consists of dominated by lowland swamp area is overgrown with shrubs and grass. The conclution of the research are productivity and population of swamp buffalo (B. bubalis) pampangan as specific plasma nutfah of South Sumatra can be improved by studying the characteristics and preferred habitat of the buffalo, although developed in a traditional farms but is good enough and so need to be developed, grass is most preferred by swamp buffalo Pampangan derived from ‘Kumpai’ grass group, and ‘Kasur’grass and ‘Kumpai’ grass is the dominant grass type found in habitat swamp buffalo Pampangan.

Abstract

Rice is a widely cultivated crop in Indonesia that the crop becomes a food crop with many pests and diseases. As happen in Belitang, the area many rice cultivation infested by golden snails because Belitang is a center of rice production with the biggest irrigation structure in the region. The golden snails prefer to live in submerged areas. Furthermore, the snail produces a high number of eggs in one ovulation which may produce a high number of golden snails and cause serious damage on rice to mage harvest failure. The  research of this know the number of eggs packets of golden snails laid in two rice cultivations with different ages and varieties. The method applied in the study was a survey method for which samples were taken purposively, by following certain intervals in every row of rice plants.  The observation was made to calculate the number of snail egg packets. The result showed that in the two different rice cultivation there were different numbers of snail egg packets. The difference might be caused by different environmental factors between both locations where a lower water surface caused a higher number of snail eggs.

Abstract

The agricultural sector, especially in Indonesia, is always faced with problems from various factors that can reduce the productivity of a plant. One of these factors is the presence of attacks from plant-disturbing organisms. The method used in this research is by using a purposive sampling method. Samples of diseased plants were observed and taken for observation in the Phytopathology Laboratory, Plant Protection Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. From the observations that have been made, it was found that many chili plants were attacked by Colletotrichum Rot disease Erwinia caratovora in carrots, anthracnose in oranges and bananas, anthracnose in mangoes, and papayas. Many postharvest diseases found in plants in Indralaya are caused by pathogens in the form of fungi and bacteria.

Abstract

Ceratocystis wilt and canker disease has severely compromised the profitability of Mangifera indica plantations in the world. In 2022, wilt and sudden death were observed on Mangifera indica. Identification was performed by sequence analysis of the concatenated β-tubulin gene regions. Sequencing of the PCR product confirmed this pathogen was Ceratocystis fimbriata sensu stricto. This is the first report of C. fimbriata causing sudden death disease in M. indica in Indonesia.

Abstract

Sayuran-sayuran sebelum ditanam, dilakukan penyuluhan terlebih dahulu cara budidaya tanaman sayuran.

Abstract

Chili is one of the important commodities in Indonesia. Chili cultivation faces many obstacles, leading to a decrease in production, such as virus infections. Yellow leaf curl and curly top viruses are groups of viruses that are often found in chili fields. This research was conducted to investigate the effect of intercropping (basil-chili) in suppressing viral diseases, especially yellow leaf curl and curly top viruses. A Randomized block design was used for this research, including intercropping and monoculture. The parameters observed in this study included disease incidence and intensity, the number and weight of chilies. Symptoms of virus infection include leaf curl, yellowing, and stunting. The disease has been reported to be transmitted by insect vectors, such as Aphis gossypii and Bemisia tabaci. The results showed that the incidence and intensity of yellow leaf curl and curly top virus diseases in chili pepper and basil plants were not significantly different in each treatment. The number of healthy chilies and their weight were also not significantly different. Damaged chilies are fruits that have been attacked by fruit flies. Basil intercropped with chilies attracts fruit flies, which affects the quantity and weight of the harvested chilies. The population of B. tabaci was significantly different in each treatment, while A. gossypii did not show significant differences among the treatments. Intercropping basil and chili increased the population of A. gossypii, while the population of B. tabaci decreased in this treatment. These two insect pests are vectors for yellow leaf curl and curly top viruses.
