Abstract

ABSTRACTThe main problem in the post-harvest handling of paddy that often facing by the farmers is the high value of looses during post harvest. The looses occur when the paddy grains scattered during harvest or post harvest handling. This study aimed to calculate the losses of paddy grains during drying and milling in Minahasa Region. The research was conducted in Karondoran village, the east part of Langowan, Tolok village of Tompaso and in the Post Harvest Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University for 3 months. The drying looses was determined by the weight and the moisture content of the paddy samples before and after the drying process. While the looses during milling was determined by comparing the rendemen of millling and the milling yield generated in the laboratory. The result indicated that the average looses of drying in Minahasa was 2,19% while the average looses of milling in Minahasa was 2,12%.Keywords : drying, milling, looses

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to modify the cold storage tool for green cabbage, assessing air circulation by measuring the temperature in the ice chamber, chamber vegetables, vegetable base, stem and leaf vegetables, vegetables weight loss measure, calculate the cooling rate is based on temperature measurements, measure the storage time with a freshness indicator and measure humidity outside environment, this study uses descriptive method. Temperature measurement starts with measuring the temperature of the ice which is used as a coolant in the cooling box is simple. After being measured and the measurement data obtained after the average is taken of the obtained temperature of ice -20áµ’C. 6 From the graph it appears that at the beginning of the cold storage temperature drops drastically visible in all sections where the thermometer is installed. The fall in temperature is due to the sublimation process that begins with the process of convection heat transfer between the air in the ice room with a block of ice. When traced line temperature curve for all observation points per day then obtained an average temperature of space vegetables and vegetables are in a position under 10áµ’C from the first day until the day of the fifth and sixth while the ice room temperature is under 10áµ’C only until the day to five. For day to six, seven and eight all temperatures have been in the position above 10áµ’C. Weight loss data observed or measured at the beginning and end of the cold storage. The difference between the initial weight of the final weight or lose weight, as in the figure averaged 57.3 gr. The cooling rate is a function of temperature fluctuations within a certain time or depending on the initial temperature and the temperature of a particular moment. In this study, the initial temperature and the temperature at certain times fluctuate so that the calculations, the positive numbers and a minus. The highest cooling rate was obtained at room temperature ice is 0,64áµ’C / h and the lowest cooling rate was obtained at room temperature ice also is -0.39áµ’C / h. The results of visual observation is also in accordance with the temperature graph obtained, wherein the vegetable room temperature begins to rise beyond 10áµ’C after the fifth day of the storage process in progress. Thus it can be said that the duration of cold storage greens using a simple cooler box can only last for five days of storage. Measurement of moisture was observed only on the outside or environmental humidity and wet bulb thermometer observed in the dry and the ball is then plotted on a graph psychrometric chart. Abstract

ABSTRACT Rice is the most exerted food crop commodity in Indonesia. Rice production has continuously been increased in order to support food security policy. Improvement of cultivation technology has been proved to increase rice production significantly. The aim of this study is to the losses of harvest and postharvest losses including harvest lost to threshing.   This research was done from February to May 2015, in Pagulage cape, Molonggota village, subdistrict Gentuma Raya , North Gorontalo.The study of this research showed that the average of harvest lossed was 1,94 %, temporary hoarding lossed was 0,54 %, binding with transport lost was 1,13 % and fall of lost was 2 % with total cost was 5,61 %. This research showed that the highest lost was in fall of lossed and the lowest cost was in temporary hoarding lost that containing water about 17 %. The improvement of rice postharvest technology should in corporate human reseurse abily and introduced the postharvest technology to the farmer should be done.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the drying characteristics of nutmeg which includes changes in temperature, relative humidity, drying rate against time, and the drying rate of the levels is carried out in the county air. This research was conducted in North Halmahera, Galela District. Measurements were conducted at the Laboratory of Postharvest Department of Agricultural Technology Unsrat. When the study that began in August 2013 until the end of October 2013. This research was conducted by using descriptive method, the data of the observations are arranged in the form of tabelaris, later depicted in graphic form and then discussed. Materials used in this study is the nutmeg that has been issued fulinya then spread out on a sack the size 6x8 meters, time of harvest between 6-7 months after flowering, nutmeg is blackish brown. Ambient temperature began to rise at 09:00 and decreased disore day. The highest temperature at 11:00 am with an average of 30.6 ° C. Temperature of the material increased as well and reached its peak at 14:00 then down disore day. Similarly mat temperature peaked at 13:00 is 57.5 ° C. Keywords: Nutmeg Seed Drying Characteristics

Abstract

ABSTRACT Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan membuat kompor biomassa, serta mengkaji proses pembakaran dengan bahan bakar kayu (cengkeh) dan pindah panas pada kompor biomassa. Analisis dilakukan terhadap suhu nyala api, suhu dinding kompor,suhu dinding luar panci, suhu dinding dalam panci, suhu air dan lamanya pemasakan air. Perhitungan yang dilakukan meliputi energi panas yang terkandung dalam bahan bakar yang digunakan dan energi panas yang digunakan, serta efisiensi pemanasan air. Penelitian ini dilakukan awal bulan Juli sampai awal September 2014 di Bengkel Keteknikan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sam Ratulangi Manado. Kajian proses pembakaran ini menggunakan 3 perlakuan yang dianggap taraf yang diambil dari berat bahan bakar yang digunakan yaitu jumlah bahan bakar 500 g, 750 g,  dan 1000 g. Data hasil penelitian dicatat dan dihitung kemudian disusun dalam bentuk tabelaris lalu digambarkan dalam bentuk grafik.  Analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kompor biomassa yang mengunakan bahan bakar kayu sebagai sumber energi dapat memenuhi kebutuhan kelangsungan hidup rumah tangga dalam masak-memasak.  Kata Kunci: Kompor biomassa, bahan bakar kayu cengkeh, efisiensi pemanasan air

Abstract

Abstract Sweet corn (Zea mays, saccarata) started and already recognized in Indonesia for a long time. Developing market demand for sweet corn continues to grow which trigger the sweet corn farming. Sweet corn distribution must be done as soon after it cultivated so that the sweet corn will taste sweet and it will decrease within 48 hours later (Rodja, 2009). Based on that statement, it is necessary to do research study titled cold storage of sweet corn. This study aims to determine the sugar content during storage, to calculate the weight of sweet corn during storage and observe the color change of sweet corn during storage. The results showed that the amount of decrease in sugar content during storage in the freezer is 0.1754% - 0.2842% and decreased levels of sugar stored at a temperature of space is 0.3859% - 0.4350%. Sugar level drops very visible in the storage room at a temperature of sweet corn, which decrease levels of sugar in the freezer is not as big as the decline of sweet corn were stored at a temperature of space.

Abstract

ABSTRACTNutmeg (Myristica Fragrans Houtt) is a native Indonesian plant that is very potential as a commodity trading at home and abroad. It has long been known as a spice plant and has an important position as a source of essential oil needed in various industries, such as food, medicine, perfume, cosmetics, and others (Rukmana, 2004). Nutmeg plants have the advantage that almost all parts of the fruit can be used, ranging from the fuli (red objects that wrap the skin of the seeds), nutmeg and nutmeg flesh. The aim of this research is to determine the characteristics of drying of nutmeg seed using rack type dryers including temperature change, relative humidity, material weight, airflow rate, air volume flow rate, water content of material, time of drying rate, and drying rate water. This research uses descriptive method of drying process used temperature below 55ËšC repeated as much as 3 (three) times until reaching water content 8 - 10% bk. The result of the observation showed that during the drying process there was recorded an outer Rh of the dryer between 83.28% -89.50%. Also the Rh in the dryer was observed and recorded ranging from 86.58% -97.91%. The moisture content of the nutmeg during the drying process decreased from 38.75% down to an average of 18.05% with the details on the shelf one 6.54%, the shelf two 8.28% and the third rack 9.70%. Abstract

Abstract Walnut are native to Indonesia, which grows in many parts of the east, such as North Sulawesi and Maluku. Walnut shell is one of the Agricultural solid waste that has not been used optimally. Walnut shells have a physical structure that is hard enough to allow it to be used as charcoal, the use of walnut shells is still very lacking, so it takes the process of processing walnut shells into a more useful product. The purpose of this study is to make walnut shell briquettes and analyse content, ash content, briquette fuel that meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The research was carried out for six months in two places, namely the Engineering Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University Manado and the Laboratory of the Industry and Trade Standardization Research Institute.this study uses a descriptive method with different amounts of flour treatment (50 grams, 100 grams, 150 grams) and aims to observe the effect of adhesive material (tapioca flour) on the results of research, walnut shell briquettes have met the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). Abstract

ABSTRACT Nutmeg seeds are a commodity that are well known in Indonesia, making nutmeg seeds as an important spice since the past. This study aims to analyze several drying parameters in the nutmeg drying process such as temperature, relative humadity, reduction in weight of the material, drying rate, intensity of solar radiation in drying using solar energy and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). This research was conducted at the Agricultural Engineering Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture at Sam Ratulangi University. This research uses descriptive method of temperature in the dryer on rack 1 ranges from 35.7°C - 59.2°C, rack 2: 35.6°C - 58.4°C and rack 3: 33.6°C - 46.6°C while the ambient temperature from 30°C - 37°C. The relative humadity of the environment during drying is 60% - 88% and in the dryer is, rack 1: 25% - 66%, rack 2: 23% - 66%, and rack 3: 26%- 74%. During the drying process there is a decrease in water content from 61.52% bk dropped to an averange rack 1: 34.32%, rack 2: 33.34% and rack 3: 36.42%. The highest intensity of solar radiation reaches is 872.25 watts/hour and the lowest is 407.05 watts/hour. Drying using solar energy and LPG will speed up the drying process.
