Abstract

Cultural association analysis of color is an approach to know color from the side of culture. Unlike the previous color studies which see the color from the aspect of psychology, this research of color aims to provide insight based on the colors from local culture. Johannes Itten’s theory of color was used as a basis of thought in this research. The theory was reflected to Indonesian cultures, and this time, represented by Java island. Research used qualitative method by literature study, interviewing the color experts, historians and artists, visiting cultural centers. Results of the research are in the form of morphological matrix cultural over color. Matrix of analysis resulted in argument and study proposal. Students implemented the color schemes from 5 big cities in Java. They were asked to change the color composition of food and beverage packaging. Students may use, explore, and maximize the principle of color in visual communication to achieve contrast and balance.

Abstract

More than any other element of design, color has the ability to makes us aware of what we see, for nothing has meaning without color. Color naming tries to describe color of objects surrounding us. The physiology of the eye and how light imparts color to objects, as well as the psychological and cultural factors involved in perception. These factors in turn affect whether an artist chooses to use local, optical, or arbitrary color. The color defines our world. Just like the previous paper, this research uses quantitative and qualitative methods to describe the color names and color names of the new proposed based on the audience choice. Data collected will be used as a proposal of naming colors in Indonesian language that uses the unique natural and cultural riches of Indonesia itself.

Abstract

Analysis of cultural color was an approach to a better understanding color from cultural stand point, unlike the others color studies which looked at the psychological aspect of color. Johannes Itten’s theory of color served as a thinking base in this study. The theory was reflected in the cultures of Indonesia and represented by island of Sumatera (Aceh Darussalam, Medan, Padang, Bengkulu, Palembang, and Lampung). The scope of the subject matters was limited to traditional textile products such as traditional costumes, bridal apparel, and culinary. The textile products were chosen because they became reflection of a culture whose place was close to society and this color became the its own identity. The research method was qualitative that consisted of doing literature study, interviewing experts (historians and artists), and visiting cultural centers especially the ones associated with textile and culinary product. The result of this study is presented in the form of morphological matrix on cultural color. The matrix of analysis is supported with arguments and a classroom experiment, which allows students to use, cultivate, and maximize the method of applying color in visual communication to achieve harmony and contrast.

Abstract

As the fourth leading country with the largest population, the demand for needs in Indonesia has increased significantly, especially in primary needs such as food and household materials. With the massive amount of waste and lack of awareness, the waste we produce is thrown away to the landfill, without knowing the effects it might cause. In this situation, there are many people throwing garbage in the wrong place. The awareness amongst youth in Indonesia in regard to excessive waste and composting as a solution to act on it is, still low. In the effort of collecting data, literature studies from different sources are used, this research also conducts in-depth interviews with experts in the field. A creative solution of creating a digital platform in the form of a website that called Feed the Soil is made to help raise the awareness to solve the problem. With an attractive visual and interactive activity, It would be easier for the targeted audience to be able to increase their interest and boost their knowledge. As a result, the awareness is raised, and information can be easily understood and received in a fun and unordinary way. Moreover, further research is still needed to provide more depth to the platform and implementation.

Doyo is a plant kind of a strong pandanus fibrous and growing wild in the Kalimantan’svillage, such as in Tanjung Isuy, Jempang-West Kutai. Weaving is famous not only forusing a basic source of some natural fibers, but also because it tinged with a natural dye.The research focus on experiment composition a variaton of color based on a naturaldye of West Kutai and new motives or patterns based on the surrounding environment.Used qualitative method that based on Research Through Design method. Design as research is known more as Practice Based Research or Action Research, involvingsystimatic research through practical activity. By using the Practice Based Research, the results could be some new things in infomation form to open the insight, possibilityof forms, process, concept and knowledge. The outcome intended to create the colorsvariantions for the pattern or motive, which comes from the nature objects in WestKutai, so the woven doyo’s colors have had more range and finally they have had manyvarioations. Hopefully, the colors’s variations have the meaning that reflecting the valueand culture of West Kutai in general and villages nearby in particular. Abstract

The purpose of this research was to review the productivity of Wayang’s research by using the bibliometric method from the Scopus database. Wayang is a form of traditional art recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity since 2003. It was not obtained easily, especially in terms of the world community’s introduction of shadow puppets. Puppet research has exploded since it was recognized by UNESCO. However, global indexed publications still needed to be enhanced. Analysis of Wayang research from internationally indexed journals, such as Scopus, was required to recognize this opportunity; the object could be seen from a different perspective. The dataset used was ‘Traditional Wayang’, based on documents during 2015-2021 from the Arts and Humanities areas. This search has found 36 papers related to ‘Traditional Wayang’ research. The number of Wayang studies in Scopus-indexed papers remains limited, retaining the Wayang perspective as a traditional object. This is shown by the 36 documents examined, among which only two clusters are produced: performance and change. In order for Wayang research to have great potential and be considered from a wide range of perspectives, including technological, social, economic, commercial, and other, there are still other types of Wayang as an object material. Wayang is a form of traditional art recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity since 2003. This recognition is not obtained easily, especially in terms of the world community's introduction of shadow puppets. One way to introduce Wayang is through research that makes Wayang the object of the research material. So that the world community can know about shadow puppets (Wayang) through the results of the study, thus this research also raised wayang as material objects. The purpose of this study was to review the productivity of research related to Wayang using the bibliometric method. So from this study, the results of measuring the dissemination of knowledge related to Wayang as evaluative material for future research were found. The data used in this study is sourced from the Scopus database. The keywords used are “Traditional Wayang” with the limitations based on documents during 2015-2021 from the subject area is Arts and Humanities. This search found 36 papers related to “Traditional Wayang” research. The results of this study found that the productivity of research related to “Traditional Wayang” tends to fluctuate from 2015-2021 and there are still many research opportunities to do related to “Traditional Wayang” that can be done.
