Abstract

Background: Plaque can inhibit the antibacterial activity of salivary function, which can damage the periodontal tissue. Several preventive measures can be done to control plaque, mechanically or chemically. Mechanical plaque control in combination with chemical plaqie control such as toothpaste can reduce plaque. The role of SLS in toothpaste which can facilitate plaque detachment from the tooth surface. Herbal toothpaste has been developed using herbal ingredients that have antibacterial properties as black cumin (Nigella sativa). The contents of black cumin, thymoquinone, thymol, and tannins, have been proven to be effective in inhibiting the growth of plaque bacteria. Purpose: This study aims to identify the inhibitory ability of black cumin toothpaste extract containing detergent compared to black cumin extract toothpaste without detergent on the growth of supragingival plaque bacteria. Methods: This research method of diffusion of wells on BHIB media was conducted in four research groups namely negative control, cumin paste with SLS, non SLS cumin paste, and SLS and carried out bacterial planting on MHA media. Next measure the diameter of the inhibition zone around the well. Results: There was a significant difference in each group against the inhibitory growth of supragingival plaque bacteria on the Oneway ANOVA test results (p <0.05) Conclusion: Black cumin extract toothpaste containing 2% of detergent has better inhibition against supragingival plaque bacteria than non cumin detergent 3% black cumin toothpaste.

Abstract

Gingival recession is an exposed root surfaces that caused by shifting gingiva towardapical, and often causes problem. Gingival recession can occur locally or generally atall teeth causing dentin hypersensitive and susceptible to caries. Other problem is thelack of aesthetic, especially on anterior teeth. Treatment of all kinds of gingivalrecession depends on the severity and causes of recession. Treatments addressed toovercome the aesthetic problem and hypersensitivity of dentin. Mucogingival surgeryis preferred to position the flap coronally. Non surgical techniques have beendeveloped to solve the problem of aesthetic and hypersensitive dentin. The method isconducted to using of artificial gingiva on the recession area. Regular control isneeded to maintain good oral hygiene in order to protect or to avoid the recession.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Aesthetic and health is one aspect that is presently the subject of attention. Abnormalities in symmetrical, gingival color and contour will have the effect of harmonizing the appearance of teeth. Gingival hyperpigmentation occurs due to excessive deposition ofmelanin pigment causing gingival color becomes darker. In general, gingival hyperpigmentation not cause medical problems, but patients often complain about the colorbrown or black gums that are considered disturbing appearance. One of the treatments is esthetic periodontal plastic surgery. Esthetic periodontal plastic surgery is aimed at correcting the gingival hyperpigmentation. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand the management of esthetic periodontal plastic surgery for Gingival hyperpigmentation. Case: 21 year old female patient came to clinic with chief complain ofgreyish gingival color and has no confidence of smiling. Case Management: Anterior-maxilla and mandible gingival hyperpigmentation was performed using scalpel #15. Orban knife was used to shape interdental area, followed by saline irrigation. Periodontal pack is placedaround the surgical area. Conclusion: Esthetic periodontal plastic surgery using scalpel is often used to achieve gingival esthetics. Wound healing process is reported fine, as painless and no infection occur.
