Abstract

Introduction: Insomnia is difficulty falling or maintaining sleep that often experienced by general population. Insomnia mostly experienced by elderly woman, people with low education and low economy and in people  who  have  chronic  disease.  Insomnia  is  risk  factor  from  psychiatric  disorder  especially depression. Insomnia increase the risk in depression development. Depression is disorder on personal, interpersonal  and social that affecting general population. The purpose of this study is to know the relationship between insomnia and depression in elderly.Method: The type of this study is analytical observational (Cross-sectional)  study with amount of sample 32 respondents that conducted in Banjar Gaduh and Banjar Tengah in Sesetan, South Denpasar District in elderly in 2017. This study is using the primary data obtained through questionnaire and interview (GDS and ISI) and analyzed through SPSS 21.0.Result: This study found that from 32 respondents experienced insomnia (50%), not experienced Insomnia   (50%),  experienced   depression   (28.1%)  and  no  experience   depression   (71.9%)  and relationship insomnia with depression on eldery obtained value p < 0.05 . The R-square value indicates value of 0.673 which means that role variable independent in explain variable dependent only of 67.3%, could be concluded that still there are 24.6% other variables outside the research variables that affect insomnia.Conclusion: There were a significant relationships between depression and insomnia.

Abstract

Introduction: Smoking is a major cause of preventable death worldwide, and is a major risk factor for six of the eight leading causes of death, namely ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, lower respiratory infections, chronic pulmonary obstructive disease, tuberculosis and lung cancer. This study aims to determine the percentage of cigarette use, the characteristics of age for the first time smoking, and the percentage of use of cigarettes, alcohol, and other substances in PTRM Sandat clients Sanglah Hospital.Method: This study was conducted at PTRM Sandat Sanglah Hospital in August to October 2015 using a descriptive cross-sectional design.Results: The results of this study showed 100% of respondents smoked at a young age with 76% of respondents having a daily smoking status. The data obtained showed that the majority of smoking clients in the age of 13-15 years were 56% and 42% smoked at 16-19 years old. Judging from alcohol consumption, all study respondents consumed alcohol and 74% of respondents consumed marijuana. Of the total respondents, 60% consumed benzodiazepine and 62% of respondents took amphetamines. As many as 66% of respondents took halucinogen drugs and were responsive who consumed opioids by 36%.Conclusion: Percentage of cigarette use in PTRM Sandat clients Sanglah Hospital one hundred percent positive using cigarettes with most having daily smoking status and all starting smoking in their teens. Smoking on PTRM Sandat clients at Sanglah General Hospital when teenagers become gateways for other drug use.

Abstract

Background: Depression is categorized as a mood disorder which causes changes in a person’s activity as well as life perception and could even cause suicides. Medical students are more distressed than the general population.Aim: This research was conducted to determine the degree of depression among 1st year medical students of Universitas Udayana.Method: This is research is using based on descriptive cross sectional study in order to obtain data about the amount of knowledge students about depression in Udayana University from November 2015 – January 2016. 100 sample sizes are needed for this study. The Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI) questionnaire is also used in this study.Results: Most of the students in the Medical Faculty of Udayana University have a relatively normal feeling of good and bad that happens in life. A smaller number of students have shown to have mild mood disturbances and but does not indicate the presence depression. The majority of students who suffered from depression are 17 years old based on the BDI scoring, which consisted of 4 students.Conclusion: There female students, they who were living alone, and they who were unable to sleep normally, had the higher prevalence of suffering depression.
