Abstract

This research is motivated by several problems, namely (1) student learning motivation VIII SMP Negeri 2 Kecamatan Suliki Gunung Mas, (2) Students consider writing poetry is difficult and students do not pay attention to elements that build poetry, (3) motivation learning relationship with Poetry writing skills. The purpose of this study is, (1) to describe the students 'learning motivation, (2) to describe the students' poetry writing skills from the aspects of diction, image, and (3) to describe the relationship of learning motivation with students poetry writing skill.This research type is quantitative by using correlation method. The population in this study is the students of SMP Negeri 2 Kecamatan Suliki Gunung Mas amounted to 130 people consisting of 5 classes. Determination of the sample is done by cluster random sampling or randomly, then selected class VIII.3 which amounted to 26 students. Variables in this study is the motivation to learn as the variable X and skills of writing poetry as a variable Y. The instrument of this study is to distribute questionnaires and performance tests.Based on the results of the study can be concluded that the average value of learning motivation in general is 85 with good qualifications and the value of poetry writing skills is 80,23 with good qualifications. Furthermore, the correlation test using the moment product formula, obtained rhitung 0.1056, obtained t count 5,488 with degrees of freedom n-2 (26-2 = 24), and a significant level of 0.05. Hypothesis accepted if t count> t table. Thus H1 is accepted because the test results prove that t count is bigger than ttable that is 5,488 > 1,711. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between learning motivation and the skill of writing poetry of class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Suliki Gunung Mas. Kata kunci: motivasi belajar, keterampilan menulis, menulis puisi.

Abstract

This study aims to find out (1) empirical data on the influence of jigsaw type cooperative learning on the reading comprehension skills of grade VII students of SMP N I Kecamatan Guguak, and (2) to know empirical data of conventional learning influence on reading comprehension skills of grade VII students of SMP N I Kecamatan Guguak.. Data analysis shows that, jigsaw type cooperative learning is influential in comprehension reading skills. This is evidenced by the increase in student value, the mean time of the mean value is 57.76. After applying jigsaw type cooperative learning in the learning process in this class, obtained the improvement of student learning outcomes with the average value 78.06. While conventional learning is also influential, although the increase in value is not too high. The preetest time average value is 63.33. After applying conventional learning, there is an increase of student learning outcomes with average score 71,05. Thus, the learning outcomes of experimental class students taught by jigsaw type cooperative learning are better than the students' control class learning outcomes taught by conventional learning. Abstract

This research was experimental research. The population of this research was the VIII grade students of SMPN 2 Kec. Luak Payakumbuh. There were four classes of the eight grade students, total population was 88 students. The sample of this research had chosen by using cluster sampling. The experimental class was VIII.3 that had taught by using Read, Cover, Remember, Retell (RCRR) strategy and the control class was VIII.4 had taught by using conventional class in teaching reading. The instrument of this research was reading test in multiple choice test form. It was valid because the students have learnt the material. Then, the instrument was reliable because the result of split-half was 0.65 gave positive association. To get the data, the researcher used the t-test formula that suggested by Gay and Airasian. The result of the research was analyzed by t-test formula and the researcher got t-calculated was 8.38. After that, the researcher compared to t-table was 2.021. Where the level of significant was 0.05 with degree of freedom was 43. After analyzing the data, the researcher got t-count higher than t-table. So, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. It means there was a significant effect of teaching reading by using Read, Cover, Remember, Retell (RCRR) strategy at the eight grade students of SMPN 2 Kec. Luak.
