Abstract

ABSTRACT Sungai Dua Banyuasin village is dominated by agricultural and plantation crops, namely rice, rubber, and coconut. During the harvest period, biomass waste in rice husks, rubber seed shells, and coconut shells is very abundant and has not been used optimally. One of the technologies that can treat biomass waste is Unit Thermal Cracking. This tool uses pyrolysis technology so that it can process biomass waste into liquid smoke and charcoal. This activity aims to help the community process biomass waste and provide product solutions that can eliminate bad odors in the rubber processing process. Community service partners are the community, especially farmer groups and village officials in Sungai Dua Banyuasin. This service activity was carried out in several stages, including a) Counseling to provide information and increase understanding public in processing biomass waste, b) Diffusion of science and technology through the manufacture of Thermal Cracking Units, c) Training in running tools and making liquid smoke. This activity was followed by the community enthusiastically by making liquid smoke independently. At the end of the activity, the handover of equipment was carried out with Sungai Dua village officials.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is caused by an infected A. aegypti mosquito, which can cause serious bleeding, a sudden drop in blood pressure and even death. Kebiul seed kernel extract is thought to contain flavonoid compounds, terpenoids, saponins and steroids that can be used as larvicides. The purpose of this study was to determine the toxicity of the extract, n-hexane fraction, and ethanol fraction of kernel seed (C. bonduc. L) against A. aegypti mosquito larvae.  This study used the methods of extraction, phytochemical screening, and toxicity tests by calculating larval mortality. Based on the results of phytochemical screening, extract of kernel seed (C. bonduc. L) contains tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, steroidal saponins and terpenoids. Toxicity test (LC50 values) of extract, n-hexane fraction, and ethanol fraction of kernel seed (C. bonduc. L) are 368,566 g/mL, 483,010 g/mL, 338,361 g/mL. The LC50 value 1000 ppm has a toxic effect, so the kernel seed has the potential to be used as a larvicide.

Abstract

This research aims to test the antioxidant activity of extract kweni peel (Mangifera odoratta Griff). The antioxidant testing was performed by maceration using the solvents of n-hexane and ethanol 96% after that it was fractioned using ethyl acetate solvent. The phytochemical tests yield positive results from ethyl acetate extract were flavonoids and tannins. The antioxidant testing was carried out using the DPPH method (2,2, diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) based on the inhibition concentration test parameters (IC50). The result showed that the antioxidant activity (IC50) found to be 169.43 µg/mL which was classified as moderate antioxidant activity intensity. Therefore, it can be concluded that the extract of kweni peel (Mangifera odoratta Griff) has potential antioxidant activity that could be used as an inhibitor of free radicals.
