The objective of this research was to identify whether the use of summary technique effective to improve students’ ability in reading comprehension. An experimental design was used to collect the data, while quantitative approach was used to analyze them. The study was taken by the first grade of SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli Utara. It was conducted in one class (VIII). The data were obtained through a pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was used to measure the students’ previous ability in reading comprehension, the treatments were applying materials through summary technique, and the post-test was used to find out the students’ reading ability after given treatments.The result of the analysis showed that summary technique contribute greatly to the students in reading comprehensio. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 46,38 while in the post-test improved up to 78,13. Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both test were analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-tes value 2,229 was greater than T-table value -14,246. It can be inferred that summary technique was very effective to improve students’ ability in reading comprehension. Key words: Summary technique, teaching reading, narative text

The objective of the research is to find out whether the Discovery Learning can improve students’ writing ability in recount text or not. This research use X ATPH2 class which consists of 23 students as the sample. The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treament and posttest. The researcher gives pretest and posttest to know the improvement of students’ writing ability after they are taught by using discovery learning method. The result of this research shows that there is significant improvement after the students are taught by using discovery learning method. It is proven by significant improvement on student’ score in posttest. The mean score of pretest is 57.74 while the the mean score of posttest is 74.00. The data both pretest and posttest were analyzed by using T-test formula. The result shows that T-test value 8.212 greater that T-table value 2.074. It means that discovery learning method can improve students’ writing ability. Keywords: Improving, Writing Ability, Recount Text, Discovery Learning

This research design belongs to a pre-experimental research. The instruments of collecting data are pretest and posttest. The test was used to obtain data in order to find out the effect of using sequences pictures in writing procedure text.The result of the research shows that: 1. by using sequences pictures can improve students’ writing ability in procedure text, 2. there is significant difference between the result of pretest and posttest, the mean score of posttest was 78,40 it was higher than the mean score of pretest 56,0. 3. The testing hypothesis shows that Tcount 9,167was higher than Ttable 2,093. It indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) accepted. Finally, this research shows that students’ ability was improved after they were taught using sequences pictures. They were better in their procedure text writing. It was signed by their improvements of writing component are organization, Vocabulary and grammar. Key Words: Sequence Pictures, Ability, Writing, Improving.

This research objective was to prove that whether of the use of pictures can improve students writing descriptive test or not. The design of this research was pre-experimental research. The sample of the research was the seventh grade students that consisted of 27 students. They were grade VIIA of SMP Negeri 2 Tolitoli. The data obtained from pre-test, treatment and post-test. The researcher gave pre-test and post-test to know students previous ability in writing descriptive text. The result of the data analysis showed that pictures contributed greatly to the students writing descriptive text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 36.41 while in the post-test improved up to 68.52. The data of this research were analyzed by using SPSS program version 16.0. The Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both tests were analyzed by using T-test, and result showed that the T-test value 18.43 was high than T-table value 2.056 . The result indicates that there was an improvement in writing descriptive text by using pictures. It can concluded that teaching writing descriptive text by using pictures is effective to improve students writing descriptive text.Keywords : Writing, Descriptive text, Pictures.

The aim of this research is to find out the correlation between students’ reading interest and translation ability in second grade at SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli. This is a quantitative research design. There were 32 students as sample of this research. The samples were selected purposively. Test and questionnaire used to collect data. The data collected were analyzed statistically. The result of this research indicated that the correlation coefficient value is 0,551 which indicates that there a positive moderate correlation. value significant (2- tailed) is 0,001, which means that there is a significant correlation between students’ reading interest and translation ability because the value is 0,001 < 0,05. Then, ha accepted and ho is rejected.

This research Includes an experimental research which consists of four stages; Planning, action, observation and relection. The subjects of this study are students of class VIII E SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli academic year 2016 / 2017.This research used 17 students as a sample from score this study can be seen from the average value of each value pre test and post test. Where the score pretest in this study. The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in post test 84.88 is high than pretest 51.25. The researcher found that the T-table is 2,131 was identified at 15 the significance level is 0,05 and T counted Is 14,977, it meant that the Tcounted was higher than Ttable and the hypothesis is accepted. The researcher concluded that using picture can increase vocabulary mastery of VIII Grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli through Picture. Based on these results, the researcher draw the conclusion that the media pictures can improve the mastery of vocabulary in the students of class VIII E SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli academic year 2016 / 2017. From facts, the authors suggest English teachers to be more creative which to make students more active and enjoy in learning English. The researcher also suggest to students to emphasize themselves for more enterprising learning more actively ask questions and to seek more knowledge. The purpose of this study was to determine the difficulties of English teachers in using e-learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research uses qualitative research. The participants were 10 English teachers from different high schools in Tolitoli Regency, Central Sulawesi. The instruments used to collect data were questionnaires and interviews according to the topic. These findings reveal that English teachers experience three obstacles during online learning, including knowledge about the use of e-learning, quality of internet connection, and physical condition. Abstrak. The goal of this study is to identify the lecturers perceptions of using a learning management system (LMS) in the teaching of E-Learning procedures in English Department of Madako University. It was a qualitative study that involved three Lecturers and four students as participants. These persons served as English Department lecturers during the academic years 2020/2021. The TAM theoretical framework is applied to explain the uptake of LMS in terms of its perceived ease of use and utility. It was revealed that as long as the professor use LMS are (a) in perceiving ease of use, it is seen that the score of lecturers is 4,7 percent strongly agreed and agreed 52,3 percent while the score of uncertain lecturers is 42,80 percent (b) The sense of usefulness is strongly agreed upon by 17 percent of respondents, and agreed upon by 56 percent of respondents, despite the fact that 27 percent are suspicious. As for the usage of LMs, 22 percent strongly agree, 44 percent agree, and 33 percent doubt (c) this is the attitude toward which they should be utilized. (d) behavioral intention to use, where the mean score of the lecturer is agreed upon at 67 percent and doubted at 66,65 percent; and (e) job relevance, where the mean score of the lecturer is agreed upon at 67 percent and doubted at 49,95 percent. The researcher comes to the conclusion that the perception of English instructors regarding the employment of LMS is a neat idea.Keywords: LMS, Lecturer Perception, E-Learning
