Abstract

This research aims at Investigating the Language Learning Strategy Used by English Department Students at Madako University. The type of this research is qualitative research. The samples were 15 students at B class which were selected purposively. Its data were collected through questionnaire. The result showed that students used all the strategies including memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, affective and social strategy. The most strategy used by the students were metacognitive strategy. And it showed, students used metacognitive strategy (20%), followed by the social strategy (18%), compensation strategy (16%), affective strategy (16%), cognitive strategy (15%), and memory strategy (15%). The result also showed the students were categorized as high language learning strategy users.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aims of this research are to find out that extent parents are involved in their children reading comprehension at home and to know the factors trigger the communication between parents and the English teacher toward the students reading comprehension. By using the qualitative research this study described the research finding using a triangulation technique to gather the data from the questionnaires, interview, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) from 10 parents and one english teacher at SMA Negeri 1 Lampasio. The data analysis indicates two things. The first, parents role toward the students’ reading comprehension is Low. It was found by the result of questionnaire that showed there were 10%-20% parents involved in their child reading comprehension at home. The second, the factors triggers the communication between parents and the English teacher were progress report that given by the English teacher to parents used an examination sheet and the same living place between parents and the English teacher. Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether the application of picture effective to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. It is a pre-experimental research. The study is the first grade of MTs. DDI Kel. Baru Tolitoli. It is conduct class (VII A). The data are obtain through a pre-test and post-test. The writer use SPSS 16.0 program to analyze the data collection. The result of the analysis show that the application of picture contribute greatly to the students in writing descriptive text. The mean score of  pre-test is 65.70 while in the post-test improve up to 79.46. Moreover, the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson is 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of  both test are analyze by using T-test, and the result show that the T-count value is 10.839 greater than T-table value is 2.045. It can be inferred that the application of picture is very effective to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. Key words: picture, writing, descriptive text.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether the use of hangman games effective in increasing  students’ . This  pre-experimental study use 22 students as a sample. They are grade VIId of SMP N 1Galang . The procedure of this research consists of pretest, treatment, and posttest. The result It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test is 56.72 while in the post-test improved up to 90.64. The data of this research are analyzed by using SPSS Program version 16.0. Then the data of both tests are analyzed by using T-test, and the result shows that the T-test value 9.681 is high than T-table value 2.080. It can be inferred that hangman   games   is very effective to improve students’   vocabulary. Keywords: increasing , vocabulary, Hangman games

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether the use of Think, Talk, Write Strategy effective to improve students’ ability in writing recount text. An experimental design was used to collect the data, while quantitative approach was used to analyze them. The study was taken by the first grade of SMK NEGERI 1 Tolitoli. It was conducted in one class (X PK 2).The data were obtained through a pre-test and post-test. The result of the analysis showed that Think, Talk, Write strategy contribute greatly to the students in writing recount text. It can be seen by the difference of the mean score between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pre-test was 61.47 while in the post-test improved up to 78.93. Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson was 75 (seventy-five). Then the data of both test were analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-count value 7.510 was greater than T-table value 2.045. It can be inferred that Think, Talk, Write strategy was very effective to improve students’ ability in writing recount text.Key words: Writing ability, Recount text, Think, Talk, Write Strategy.

Abstract

This research is pre experimental research design consist of one group pre-test and post-test. The Population of this research is the Eight grade of MTs. Haji Hayuun Salumpaga in 2016/2017 academic year. The sample of this research is selected by using purposive sampling technique and the selected class is VIII B consisted of 24 students. In collecting the data, the researcher took from pre-test and post-test. The researcher analyzed the data by using SPSS program 16,0 . The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in posttest 88.58 is higher than pretest 44.42. To know the significant difference between pretest and posttest, the researcher compared the value of t-counted and t-table by applying 0.05 level of significance for two-tailed test with 23 degree of freedom (24-1=23), the researcher found that the tcount (11.956) is higher than ttable (2.069) and the hypothesis of this research is accepted. The researcher concluded that using vocabulary card can increase students’ vocabulary mastery at Eight grade of MTs. Haji Hayyun Salumpaga.Keywords: Vocabulary Mastery, Vocabulary Card.

Abstract

This research was pre-experimental research design that aims to find out whether the use of SSS ( Start Simple Stories ) in teaching reading can motivate students reading comprehension of the Tenth Grade at Sma Negeri 1 Ogodeide. The subject of this research was the students of the Tenth Grade at Sma Negeri 1 Ogodeide 2016/2017 academic year which consists of 26 students. The researcher analized the data statically, the result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in post-test 75,65 is high than pre-test 50,3., To know the significant difference between pre-test and post-test, the researcher compared the value of t-counted and t-table by applying 0,05 level of significant for one – tailed test with 25 degree of freedom (26-1 = 25), the researcher found that the t-table 2,060, it means that the t-counted (24,395) was high than t-table (2.060) and the hypothesis of this research was accepted. The researcher concluded that applying SSS (Start Simple Stories) toward the students’ reading comprehension of the Tenth grade at SmaNegeri 1 Ogodeide was effective. .Key Word : Effectiveness, Simple Stories, Reading Comprehesion.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the role of the principal to improve the quality of school management. This research used descriptive qualitative design and it was conducted in SMP Negeri 4 Tolitoli. The technique of collecting data used interview and questionnaire, were the data obtained from the principal, five teachers and six students. The result of this research is the principal carrying out her role properly. The principal plays the role of educator, planner and implementer.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the empirical evidence concerning whether story mapping  is effective or not to improve students reading comprehension. Story mapping is use to motivate students in reading because it helps them to visualize the important elements of story and make students’ thoughts to be more organized, the researcher is interested to conduct a research by applying the technique of story mapping toward students’ reading comprehension through the material. This study was held in March 2015 at SMAN 1 Ogodeide. This study used a quantitative method in the design of pre-experimental study. The sampling technique use in this study is purposive sampling. The researcher took one class as the subject of this study. The sample is XB class. The improvement of students’ score can be seen from the differences between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of pretest is 34.24 and it improves to 77.52 in post. Moreover the Minimum Mastery Criterion of English lesson is 70 (seventy). Then the data of both test are analyzed by using T-test, and the result showed that the T-test value 18.27 was greater than T-table value 2.064. According to the criteria of the test, the result showe that there is a significant improvement between students' achievement in reading comprehension by using story mapping before and after pre-test and post-test are conducted. It means that story mapping technique is effective and applicable at the X grade of SMAN 1 Ogodeide to teach students’ reading comprehension. Key words: Improving, reading comprehension, story mapping

Abstract

Abstrak. The goal of this study is to identify the lecturers perceptions of using a learning management system (LMS) in the teaching of E-Learning procedures in English Department of Madako University. It was a qualitative study that involved three Lecturers and four students as participants. These persons served as English Department lecturers during the academic years 2020/2021. The TAM theoretical framework is applied to explain the uptake of LMS in terms of its perceived ease of use and utility. It was revealed that as long as the professor use LMS are (a) in perceiving ease of use, it is seen that the score of lecturers is 4,7 percent strongly agreed and agreed 52,3 percent while the score of uncertain lecturers is 42,80 percent (b) The sense of usefulness is strongly agreed upon by 17 percent of respondents, and agreed upon by 56 percent of respondents, despite the fact that 27 percent are suspicious. As for the usage of LMs, 22 percent strongly agree, 44 percent agree, and 33 percent doubt (c) this is the attitude toward which they should be utilized. (d) behavioral intention to use, where the mean score of the lecturer is agreed upon at 67 percent and doubted at 66,65 percent; and (e) job relevance, where the mean score of the lecturer is agreed upon at 67 percent and doubted at 49,95 percent. The researcher comes to the conclusion that the perception of English instructors regarding the employment of LMS is a neat idea.Keywords: LMS, Lecturer Perception, E-Learning
